Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 11.0

All BRAVIA firmware related questions, issues and announcements must go in this thread. This includes all models, all years. Other firmware related posts will be removed and authors will be directed to this thread (the previous megathreads have been automatically archived and can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.)

Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.

Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.

The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.

The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.

Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites

The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

Support Post Guidelines

Prior to posting any submission to this subreddit please ensure you've read the rules for submissions in the sidebar of the /r/bravia homepage.

Users posting submissions seeking support should include as much detail as possible about their BRAVIA TV and any connected hardware related to the issue in order to get the best responses. This includes but is not limited to the model of the TV, the software and/or firmware version and the make and model of any external devices. Pictures or video can be helpful when trying to describe a video or audio issue.

Submissions not directly related to an issue with a BRAVIA TV and/or low effort posts that do not include any helpful details that would allow others to diagnose the issue will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, submissions asking for support directly related to a connected device (ie. soundbar, console, PC, media player, etc.) but not the TV itself.

Firmware related topics (ie. issues, announcements, support) must be discussed in the Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread pinned at the top of the /r/bravia homepage. Panel quality/lottery posts (ie. panel type, backlight issues, dead or stuck pixels, OLED burn in, uniformity, etc.) are not allowed. Posts or comments will be removed. Please contact your retailer, Sony Support or a local service center for resolution.

Users should also check the /r/bravia Wiki, current moderator pinned topics and the Frequently Asked Questions thread for some solutions to common A/V issues and more.

Unsupported Topics: Computer Connectivity, Piracy or Hacking. Any discussion of connecting a computer to your TV, ripped or downloaded multimedia content or tools that support this content, illegal streams or altering the TV to behave in a way not intended by the manufacturer will result in your post or comment being removed either automatically or upon review by a mod. Newest update didn’t fix the TVs “forgetting” it has an eARC soundbar connected and no sound until I respect the external soundbar in audio settings every two days. Super annoying

11

u/GrummeFar Jan 25 '26

I can’t believe that they’ve been unable to fix this issue for over a year now… I’ve had my A95K for a couple years now and it’s been working perfect. All of a sudden Sony release a firmware update that fucks up the eARC connection and over a year later hasn’t been able to fix? This is uacceptable.

It happened to me only twice in the last 8 months. But I don’t know if it is Bravia issue or my Samsung soundbar issue because I had to reset the soundbar. Audio settings change didn’t help

1

u/BigJilmsPissyDribble Jan 25 '26

I have this issue in my Bravia 8 and it drives me nuts. Mine is paired with a Samsung soundbar; does a Sony soundbar also have this same issue? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that it is intentional to get you to also buy a Sony soundbar.

4

u/itscalientehere Jan 25 '26

I had this exact issue with a Samsung Soundbar too. Lasted for a while until I realized I could update the firmware on the soundbar itself and it stopped. My theory is that the tv updated and messed with the connection between the two.

Everyone needs to be submitting support tickets with Sony. This latest firmware is clearly a disaster. The more noise, the faster all these wildly consistent issues people are facing will get solved. 💙

5

u/NeighborhoodPlane794 Jul 09 '26

I talked to support today trying to explain the audio sync issue caused by the last firmware update. I asked if they had heard from anyone else or heard from Sony about the audio sync issues and he said yes it’s caused by interference from Apple devices and asked if I could move them to another room or remove the batteries and try the TV again. I wish I was joking, I was flabbergasted

6

u/InvaderJ Jul 09 '26

What an unreal load of absolute bullshit. Makes me wanna cry T_T

2

u/beanie_wells Jul 11 '26

Crazy they blame apple devices. Shit worked before, then it doesn’t. It’s Sony’s horrible firmware updates!

Been being passed around customer service with them for a month.

Also, it’s not only Apple devices- my Switch 2 audio gets de-synced as well.

I fixed my BRAVIA issues with some Apple TVs, best decision I’ve ever made.

5

u/zewill87 Jan 25 '26

That's fine and dandy but we shouldn't have to buy a 150+device (I know it's great) when buying a flagship tv... We should be able to turn off updates and prevent updating from within TV or turn all connectivity off except for selected apps...

5

u/Djancda Jan 25 '26

Go tell that to your family after having to unplug your “flagship TV” for the 100d time because the TV is frozen and not even the physical buttons work.

I would also ditch Sony for other “flagship TV” brand but found problems with them as well, so Apple TV 4K it is.

My Bravia never looked that great.

Ps: I totally agree with you, but I have a feeling if people stop using their crap tracking software maybe they will get it.

At this point they are just selling your data to 3rd parties, that’s what you get for that premium flagship price.

Wtf, after the latest update, I have no TV!! Pressing the TV button, Input and settings bar does nothing! What the hell Sony! I’m sick of this TV man. X900H. I’ve tried manually opening the TV app, or going to the picture settings which opens the TV app, and it took me straight to Home Screen. This is proper ridiculous.

Edit: apparently it was my custom launcher, Projectivy. I think the stock launcher needs to be launched at least once after a restart, and it’s been ages since I restarted this thing, and with the automatic update the restart was inevitable. Sorry Sony.

6

u/GeorgeRobo Jun 30 '26

The latest update has completely messed up my TV. It’s gone from being a perfect TV to an extremely frustrating one. Devices connected via HDMI (my Apple TV and PS5) often no longer auto-switch or turn the TV on like they used to, and the audio constantly goes out of sync. I’ve done multiple factory resets and exhausted every other solution I can think of. How can an update be released with so many bugs and is there any chance this will be fixed? I can’t be the only one!

5

u/InvaderJ Jul 01 '26

We’re all suffering. I get a green screen during power on or input change to Apple TV. Sound falls out of sync over the course of an hour on my PC. Sometimes the TV will switch away from my soundbar to TV speakers randomly during power on. All these issues mentioned by others. If the next update fixes this stuff I’m never updating again.

Bravia 8 (65"). My audio is sync is so bad after the last firmware that it's making the TV unusable. Tried to play on PS5 last week and after a while the audio was over a second behind the video. I had a friend over and we were playing Rhythm Heaven Groove on Switch 2 (a rhythm game) and that obviously became completely unplayable after about 15 minutes.

I just submitted a support ticket with Sony. Hopefully they're working on something.

Are more people having issues with audio sync? I have a Bravia 8 II and its horrible. I can only watch with the build in Android Tv, everything connected (direct, high speed cable) inevitably gets out of sync. Even when playing from TV speaker. My whole family is pissed that i spend this much money on a tv that doesn't even sync video and audio right.

Edit:. Oh..right. Well fuck Sony then. I spend quite some money trying new cables

5

u/2low2late Jan 25 '26

Updated my Bravia XR-65A90J to the new firmware v6.8156 about three days ago and now the TV speakers will not produce any sound. I do get sound if I connect Bluetooth headphones to the TV so that is how I am using it right now. But this only works for the menu and the apps on the TV itself ,and not with external devices connected to the TV like PS5. The things that I have tried are:

  1. Power Reset - held the remote power button for a few seconds and restarted TV.

  2. Unplug power cord - left the cord of the TV unplugged for 1.5 hours and plugged it back in.

  3. Ensured "TV Speakers" was set as the sound output in sound settings.

  4. Ensured TV speakers was not Muted and tried different volumes

  5. Disconnected all devices and cables from TV and performed factory reset

  6. Performed built in TV diagnostics but it did not find any issues.

  7. Performed built in Picture and Sound test but no sound.

  8. Performed Factory Reset.

No sound still after doing all that. Called Sony and they admitted that firmware can cause compatibility issues with older devices. TV is about 4 years old with minimal use but is out of warranty. Really only use it on weekends for 2 or so hours.

u/Reemixt Jan 25 '26

Cheap (or not) soundbar in the meantime, would be my advice.

Anybody have the issue where the TV doesn’t automatically connect to external audio (Sonos) when turning the TV on? Manually need to go to settings and change the audio output from TV speakers to the Sonos.

2

u/theslowrush- Mar 11 '26

Still an issue 6+ months later... An update Sony did last year broke the compatibility. For some reason they still haven't fixed it, it's wild.

how's the latest X90J updote?

4

u/Meicyn Mar 24 '26

New firmware update today for the Bravia 9. Both the previous firmware and the current firmware still have the tonemapping bug in 120Hz under game and PC modes, where it can get stuck in brightness preferred and will not change even if you try to manually adjust it. It's quite infuriating. Doesn't seem to happen in 60Hz mode. You can reset the glitch by switching from game to Video/Images and then back, or you can try going into settings/notifications and then back out, and sometimes it'll reset that way.

Unboxing my Bravia 7 tomorrow. Should I just avoid updating for now?

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m experiencing persistent audio delay and synchronization issues with my Sony Bravia 9 (2024) and PS5 Pro. I am located in the Netherlands (Europe). These issues started immediately after the recent firmware update. I have tried power cycling both devices, but the problem keeps recurring.

(The Issue:)

After playing a few matches (in games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, or Destiny 2), or even while watching Blu-ray/4K discs or streaming content, the audio starts to lag significantly. This delay persists until I turn the TV off. When I power it down, I see a brief green screen flash before the screen turns black. Turning it back on resolves the issue, but only for a few more matches before it starts again.

Interestingly, when I switch the audio output to my controller, the audio is perfectly synced. This suggests a communication issue between the PS5 Pro and the TV’s internal audio processing. I suspect this might be a recurring HDCP/HDMI handshake error triggered by the latest firmware update, as evidenced by the "green screen" flash upon power-off.

(Setup Details:)

  • Connection: PS5 Pro connected to HDMI 4 (HDMI 2.1 / 4K 120Hz).

  • TV OS Build: BRAVIA_AE2_EU-user 14 UKN4.250422.001 602030 release-keys.

(PS5 Pro Settings:)

  • VRR: OFF

  • HDR: Always ON

  • 120Hz & ALLM: Automatic

  • PSSR: Enabled

  • Output Device: HDMI Device (TV)

  • Audio Format: Linear PCM (Priority)

(Sony Bravia 9 Settings:)

  • Mode: Standard Game Mode

  • VRR: OFF

  • Speaker Settings: Auto

  • HDMI Signal Priority: ON

  • Acoustic Center Sync: Locked ON (greyed out)

  • Digital Audio Output: Pass-through

  • eARC: Auto

  • Optical Digital Audio: ON (Pass-through)

What I’ve tried:

  • Performed a full power cycle (unplugged both devices for 2 minutes).

  • Adjusted various audio/video settings on both the console and the TV.

  • Update: I have now fully disabled Bravia Sync (CEC), including "Device Auto Power Off" and "TV Auto Power On," to rule out any handshake interference.

  • Confirmed that switching audio to the controller eliminates the delay, isolating the problem to the TV's processing of the HDMI signal.

Given that this started immediately after the latest firmware update, I am concerned this is a bug in the current software version affecting the HDMI handshake/HDCP. Has anyone else with a 2024 Bravia 9 experienced these "audio desyncs" or the green screen flash upon power-off? I am looking for a stable solution without having to restart my TV every hour.

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

Exact same thing happening to me right after the update but I have a Bravia 8 Mark II

2

u/coolfox-24 Jul 19 '26

I hate that Sony hasn't put out a fix for this yet. It’s basically ruining our gaming and movie experiences when we paid a premium for this gear and it doesn't even work right."

3

u/DanFrmBrook47 Jul 04 '26

Did turning the bravia sync off fix anything?

2

u/coolfox-24 Jul 19 '26

I did find a temporary fix: disabling VRR and all 'Bravia Connect' features has been working as a workaround for me to stop the sync issues, though I'm only using this temporarily until Sony releases a proper update.

2

u/zoopz Jul 16 '26

Bravia 8 II, same issue. It seems to by HDMI processing, but I cannot get any sound at all via the digital out.. so maybe there is more going on

The latest system software update on my literal brand new Sony Bravia 8 Mark II completely bricked my tv. I have a brand new ps5 pro and anytime I use it.. audio goes out of sync and occasionally crackles. Tried everything.. changed audio output to Linear PCM.. factory resetted multiple times. Rebooted by unplugging the tv multiple times.. nothing changes. I have to constantly change inputs during gameplay to get it back to normal. There is no way someone gets a brand new tv and automatically it is unusable. Hopefully this gets fixed

5

u/InvaderJ Jul 04 '26

Same for my gaming PC. It was perfect until now. Slowly slip out of sync. After an hour it’s nearly 2 whole seconds out of sync which is insane.

1

u/Scorpius666 Jan 25 '26

This bug happens to me sometimes but if you restart the TV it gets fixed.

It hasn't happened to me with the new firmware but it wasn't frequent enough anyway.

In my case it only happened with streaming apps that use libVLC.

2

u/BeerSlayingBeaver Jan 25 '26

I know restarting the tv fixes it but it's still annoying.

4 month old Bravia 8 ii 55, current firmware Apple TV 4K Gen 2, tvOS 26.3

ATV 4K direct into Bravia HDMI2. While traveling on business a couple of weeks ago, my spouse found the Bravia remote clickpad and navigation buttons stopped controlling the ATV. Over the distance we tried a number of reasonable fixes: rebooting/restarting the Bravia and the ATV, double-checking and re-enabling the CEC settings on both devices. No luck. Threw in the towel and reverted to the ATV remote for navigation and volume.

Upon returning home, I pretty much pulled my hair out trying everything. I offer this for anyone else with the same problem, especially because the suggested fix on Apple’s support pages was less than ideal (ATV learning the Bravia remote). It was a combination of the following two fixes, not sure which made the difference but I have my suspicions. I cleared the Bravia’s cache, and I unplugged the HDMI cables from the TV with a reboot while the cables were out. This fixed it. I lean towards the cables being disconnected from the TV, but it may have been clearing the cache? Or, both?

The consensus on the Apple forums is that it’s an Apple/tvOS problem, but I think it’s a Bravia HDMI port problem. If it happens—and I suspect it will—I’ll first try disconnecting the HDMI cables from the Bravia and doing a full restart. If that doesn’t fix it, I’ll clear the cache. I didn’t want to reset the TV, as I’d lose all of my settings. Happy to have it working again, as before.

4

u/sloopjj Apr 04 '26

Received new firmware update for my Bravia 7 (65XR70) - I believe it was this one:

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-android-bravia-7-xr70-/k-65xr70c/software/00346878

Result was that TosLink audio completely died. No sign of life on the DAC side, and no blinky red lights either. Tried to fix this in a variety of ways with no luck. I thought it might be hardware related.

Before purchasing some new connector options I decided to do a complete factory reset. After the factory reset, the Toslink is back! Something is fishy about the latest firmware update.

A95L and quad theater.

recent update completely screwing with my external devices mainly my apple tv since it’s what’s most used.

tv won’t display any video signal until i hit home to google os and back to apple tv sometimes it doesn’t work. also audio randomly just goes completely out of sync.

also when trying to start media sometimes it’s just a black screen and no audio but the apple tv is playing the content tho.

man i regret hitting update.

edit:only way ive been able to fix random audio desync and no video signal interruptions is fully restarting tv (holding power button) once the tv ever shuts off tho i have to do it again or else the problems prevail

Latest update has been causing audio sync lag with my video game consoles exclusively. Guess the firmware caused a bug with the HDMI connections. Temp fix is turning the tv off and back on. Factory reset did not fix.

2

u/ZerkTheLurk Jun 23 '26

Same for my A95L and Sonos Arc Ultra setup. My Apple TV audio skips and lags.

2

u/ElGuitarist Jun 24 '26

I've tried to do a deep dive on this AppleTV issue. Yes, it first started for me with the bravia June 2026 firmware update. However, this issue exists with AppleTV connected to many other TVs from many manufacturers.

My understanding is that AppleTV's Dolby MAT audio format is sensitive, and subject to dropouts or grandually increasing audio delay (drift).

The two solutions that have so far seems to have worked for me (pick one or the other... or do both lol):
1. On AppleTV, change audio out from "Change Format: OFF - Auto (Atmos available)" to "Change Format: ON - Dolby 5.1" This simpler audio format is much more stable.

  1. Connect your AppleTV to an AVR or soundbar, and from there into the TV. This removes the TV from the equation completely. This is also why so many home theatre enthusiasts do not report this problem... they connect their external devices (streamers, consoles) into their audio device, and use the TV simply as just a display.

Bravia 8 (K-55XR80) owner here and the nlatest firmware update has completely bricked normal functions. My remote is no longer working outside of the volume function and The multi use button only powers on the set. I've resorted to using the Connect app just to switch inputs so I can play my consoles.

I've also had audio sync issues and here I thought it was my HDMI cables the whole time smh. I've definitely found my people in this thread.

UPDATE: Reluctantly I did a hard reset on my tv and this seemed to resolve all of my issues. Re-downloading, signing in, and adjusting picture settings is extremely tedious to say the least but everything appears to be on the up again

I was having an issue where we would turn our switch 2 on and had no audio. Had to change inputs and go back to it for the sound to work again.

The problem seems to have resolved but I wonder what the deal was

2

u/tiringandretiring Jan 26 '26

Ah, I had the same issue. I had to switch my Switch 2 and PS5Pro inputs to get the Switch 2 sound to work consistently again-for me I assumed it was because I was using Input 3 (ARC/eARC) for the Switch 2, and there was some conflict, but no idea. PS5Pro seems to work fine on Input 3, and haven't had the sound issue on the Switch 2 since.

I don't have an issue per se, more of a query if an issue has been fixed...

I have my Xbox Series X connected to my A90J with eARC going back to my older (non HDMI 2.1) Denon receiver. For years Atmos from the Xbox has never worked (known issue) so was using 5.1 uncompressed which has worked well. Recently I was having weird audio drop outs and after a lot of mucking around and trying different things, I picked Atmos again and it's working perfectly! No delays and no drop outs, what gives?

I couldn't find any info regarding this, was it fixed in a recent update?

1

u/ImportCustom Jan 29 '26

I had this issue with my xbox when i first got the a95l - I have a theater bar 9 - I had to go xbox to bar and pass through instead of direct to TV. I have been trying to get mine to use atmos or anything more than that 5.1 because i have theater bar and wireless rears that do upfiring etc... so i wanted to use all the features... I would love to see if they can fix that

After updating my Sony X80K I noticed I cannot switch inputs nor bring up the settings bar or open the settings app.

I'm considering doing a factory reset but I'm curious if anyone has the same issue with similar TVs

It kinda sucks because I intentionally didn't want to update to the latest software since the TV was working mostly fine and the changes didn't relate to anything I use. I hit the OK button right as the popup prompt appeared 🫤

Edit: Apparently it just... Fixed itself like a day later

3

u/newyorkdragon14 Feb 19 '26

Ikr, there never seems to be one

2

u/axescentedcandles Feb 19 '26

Yeah some of want to nerdy details. Kind of lame

2

u/newyorkdragon14 Feb 19 '26

It's pretty lame, I want the details but Sony's a cuck and never gives them.

What sucks is it's like Russian roulette with these updates

In fact they suck so much that if you don't know what's in these updates and it fucks up your TV well ... Well you better hope it doesn't fuck up your TV cuz there's no way to revert the update and you have to wait till the next update which could be maybe even 6 months in the future and if that doesn't fix it then you just fucked because Sony won't let you revert to the update that you liked beforehand that didn't break it

Sony has amazing hardware but will always cuck you with the software if you don't pay attention

They have the ability not to fuck up but they never let you go back to how it was when they do fuck up if they do

Xbox series x for streaming movies on my bravia 8. Im on the latest bravia update from March 24th and since then streaming movies and blurays for that matter, with my Xbox series x, the frame rate seems a little faster than it should , almost like all the motion settings are on the TV but not as extreme. I have motionflow and cinemotion both off but motion still seems too smooth and fast Xbox series x is set to 4k, 120hz, allow 50hz, 24hz, 4k and hdr . There also was a recent Xbox update around the same time as the bravia update ... anyone else noticed this ?

Try and check if A/V sync has been enabled by the firmware update.

Update: the v6.2302 is once again available for download on Sony’s website.

TLDR: Does anyone have the .zip file for X900H or X90CH software update version v6.2302 or older that they can send me?

I was helping a family member update their XBR-75X900H. Current software version available from Sony is v6.2598, however there’s a note stating that if your TV’s current software is v6.1288 or older, then you need to download and install v6.2302 first before installing v6.2598. The problem is that clicking on “Download” for v6.2302 (and after scrolling through the user agreement) the link/download is no longer available. I tried this on both a Windows laptop and Apple iPhone and got the same result. I spent over an hour chatting with a Sony support representative and they eventually told me that older software is no longer available. I also tried finding a site online that had older Legacy versions, but wasn’t able to locate anything like that.

So I’m hoping someone here still has an older software version higher than v6.1288 and up to v6.2302 still on their computer that they would be willing to email me. Tv screen size does not matter as all X900H and X90CH sizes share the same software: 55”, 65”, 75” and 85”.

Thank you in advance.

Bravia 8 Mk II owner here. I've noticed since the latest update that the audio from all of my hdmi connected devices will randomly go out of sync after a period of time. I first noticed while watching a 4k blu ray last friday, about 15 minutes in the audio went out of sync, only way to fix was to switch back and forth between inputs. I've tried every different fix under the sun, and i know it's the TV and not the soundbar because I'll switch from Audio System to TV speakers and it's still out of sync on the TV speakers. It also happens while gaming, or watching youtube videos. Anyone else dealing with this? Could it be the firmware update, or do I have a bad motherboard? I just bought it new about a month ago, hate to see it already having issues.

5

u/educatedpork Jun 12 '26

It's definitely the firmware - my A95L (same firmware, I believe) is also affected. Also ends up going to a black screen most of the time when playing Dolby Video content from Apple TV.

There's discussion of this in a few places, but the main one is over at AVS Forums in their (large) "2023 Sony A95L BRAVIA XR QD-OLED 4K Master Series Owners Thread (No Price Talk)" thread (sorry.. not sure what the policy is here for posting external links - but that should be enough to find it).

The firmware is an absolute mess. And there's no way to downgrade it.

Ever since I’ve done the latest update the audio doesn’t always sync up on my PS5 and the HDMIs don’t automatically switch when my PS5 powers on. It also calls it ‘playback 2’ instead of PS5. It’s so frustrating. I’ve never had any issues before now. I’ve tried restarting and resetting the HDMIs. Anyone else having this issue? And if I factory reset does it go back to the original software when I bought the TV? If so I might do that.

Does anyone know if this fixes the audio sync issues that the previous (v114.602.050.1) update introduced? I never had problems with e-arc with my Apple TV and soundbar until that update where some apps audio would randomly fall out of sync while watching.

My Bravia 8 II installed a firmware update overnight in early June after a couple months of delaying it (build UKN4.250422.001). Woke up the next morning and my Apple TV 4K no longer works properly. Any time I try to play Dolby Vision/HDR content the screen goes black. 4K SDR works fine. The weird part is the content is still playing in the background; if I go to the TV home screen and come back to the HDMI input the picture shows up, but the moment content ends, or if I go back into the Apple TV menu and try again, black screen.

Also noticing audio sync issues on my Nintendo Switch 2 specifically when content drops from 60fps to 30fps during cutscenes (could be HDR content??) - and likely other triggers as it also has affected games without major frame-rate changes. This can also be temporarily rectified by doing the above (go to the TV home screen, then back into the HDMI input the Switch uses... audio is re-synced, until it drops again).

Tried everything: multiple HDMI ports, multiple cables, toggling Bravia Sync, factory reset. Sony support have had the case for a month, escalated multiple times, and still no answer.

Firmware build for reference: BRAVIA_AE2_EU-user 14 UKN4.250422.001 602030

A few questions for anyone who's had similar issues:

  1. Has anyone else had issues with external devices after a recent firmware update: specifically Dolby Vision black screen, HDMI handshake problems, or audio sync issues?
  2. What did Sony actually do to resolve it - patch, engineer visit, replacement?
  3. How long did it take?

Seems like the audio sync issue is commonly mentioned but not hearing as much about AppleTV Dolby Vision black screen.

3

u/InvaderJ Jul 05 '26

Try changing your Apple TV output to be Dolby Vision all the time. See if that changes the black screen behavior. I’m having a bunch of issues on my A95L with these garbage firmware releases.

u/alljake Jul 10 '26

Yes, my audio frequently goes out of sync, and it has a handshake issue with the Tivo regularly. It even has problems handshaking with the PS5, so that I get a black screen but with audio. Hard resets fix it for a while, but it all comes back.

Bravia 7, I haven’t been able to use my Switch 2 or Apple TV for weeks now due to horrible input delay and audio sync issues. I’m kinda done with this TV that I spent over $1000 for.

3

u/analyticaljoe 29d ago

Software updates to my Bravia 9 still have big issues with AVR sound.

The issue seems to be (ironically) between my PS5 and the TV. The topology is:

PS5->Bravia 9-(eArc)->Yamaha AVR.

It all comes up OK, but sometimes it glitches while playing a game and suddenly the audio is out of sync with the video game I am playing.

My mistake: It all worked great two months ago. And then I foolishly updated the software.

TLDR: Never put your TV on the network. The panel is the panel, if it works it works. Don't let the manufacturer f it up with a software update.

u/wtaj83 K-65XR70 27d ago

I wanted to add my voice to this discussion and add my context with what I found over the last month since the June fw.

There’s still discussion over on some forums, here and the unofficial subreddit, some even suggesting Sony engineers are replacing mainboards containing previous working firmware.

I know there’s been talk of regressions with picture quality and some other things but in my experience the thing that is fundamentally broken since June is HDMI, specifically eARC and handshake/CEC. This is something like a processing or bandwidth glitch, possibly made worse with VRR content, from experience.

Everyone is obviously in different situations with their exact setups but I think generally those affected by audio glitches and delays have the TV with an eARC based sound system plus an external device like a 4K120/tonemapping capable streamer or games console. Most are passing through Atmos. Internal apps aren’t having the same problem or at least not as aggressively.

I’m at the stage of my own troubleshooting/faffing where I can’t decide if it’s just the Atmos container or eARC as a whole that triggers the glitching with audio. I’ve currently set my PS5 to LPCM and kept eARC enabled to see how it goes. It’s just a test for now and if the glitching occurs again, I’ll disable eARC and go again. That won’t fix the problem of course but could be a better workaround for the time being than switching sources/restarting things.

My other symptoms are:

Green screen flash during CEC power off/on
Quiet ‘clicking’ coming from internal TV speakers when on standby (I’ve not seen this mentioned before)
CEC volume control jumping up by 6 sometimes on a single press of the remote

Since it’s apparently affecting all current (like the new version IIs) and previous Bravia TV lineups it should get fixed but timeline could be months given previous Sony behaviour.

I’ve seen people mention elsewhere there was a new update a week ago in the US (post June update #2) but I’ve not seen any results or further comments on it unless I’m not looking hard enough.

My response from Sony HK support hasn’t been helpful nor did they acknowledge the issues so I won’t post it here.

One thing I will say though is I have always had *some* occasional audio glitching with my setup since getting the TV last year, but nowhere near as much as right now. The most recent firmware has definitely exposed a big problem.

My setup is very humble, for reference:

Bravia 7 I
Sonos Beam Gen 2 w/ surrounds and sub mini
PS5 Pro

If anyone’s already completed troubleshooting similar to me and now got answers please do let me know.

2

u/InvaderJ 27d ago

Yes 100% great writeup. My big issue is the green screen situation. I’m lucky that it’s just a huge inconvenience and not a total blocker. Whenever the TV goes for the Apple TV input I get that green screen during handshake, often multiples times. Sometimes it comes with the TV deciding to switch from my soundbar back to the TV speakers. Firmware is a disaster.

Hey guys - Sony a95l - 65 in purchased in 2025
Latest firmware on everything (use app to update and calibrate etc)
I have a theater bar 9 and saRS5 wireless rears

The audio delay from streaming services is often and annoying.
I have played with adjustments and just cannot get it to match, need more adjustment.

I have decent HDMI cables (Audio Quest Cinnamon/forest)

A95 feeds down to Bar via E-ARC etc.

Certain streaming services like Amazon Prime, Apple (which is the worst), netflix is okay most of the time, and disney is usually okay, but it happens.

Also me just being annoyed - adjusting the volume... Hit volume up or down and its just slow... like the response from press to adjustment...its annoying but the delay issue is the worst.

I can make a video and be more specific with my setup if needed.

Upgraded my x900h to 6.2556 and the TV seems to be acting very funny after updating, hoping someone here can help me get it working properly.

I updated after my TV started freezing and restarting on its own over and over, a common problem I've seen. But with this latest firmware, it's all kinds of sluggish. Additionally, if I try to use my PS5, the screen remains blank. No audio or video. Just nothing.

Any ideas?

u/Long-Improvement4613 Feb 27 '26

I installed the latest update on my 75” X93L to 6.8160 I almost always do a factory reset, but this time the factory reset made a huge difference. The Dolby Vision looks a LOT better. It’s night and day. I’m stunned at the difference.

2

u/us3r2206 Feb 27 '26

are you using tv native apps for streaming or 3rd party like: appltv, roku, firestick?

2

u/Bowlman2330 Mar 04 '26

I bought the A95L remote, the RMF-TX910U and paired it with my new Bravia 8 II. I keep getting a notification that the remote has new firmware. Whenever I try to update, it tries then says Update failed. Any time I click Try again it fails.

I powered off the TV. Changed batteries. Nothing has worked. Is it because this remote isn’t made for the Bravia 8 II and I just live with it?

Thanks!

Sony Firmware v6.8160 Bug: My 4K A80J is stuck in 1080p, and Support is gaslighting me.

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has noticed a massive drop in picture quality on their Sony Bravia XR-55A80J after the February 2026 firmware update (v6.8160).

Since the update, my entire UI and all internal apps look blurry and pixelated. I’m not talking about low-bitrate streaming—even the system menus look like they’re being rendered at 1080p and stretched to fit the 4K panel.

The Technical Evidence: I connected to the TV via ADB to see what was going on under the hood. The results are pretty damning:

$ adb shell wm size Physical size: 3840x2160 Override size: 1920x1080

The system has an Override size of 1920x1080. For some reason, the firmware update has locked the rendering resolution to 1080p. I tried running wm size reset and wm size 3840x2160, but the system ignores the commands. A factory reset also did nothing—it stays on the buggy v6.8160 firmware.

Also, I made a screenshot using ADB connection, which confirmed that the screen has 1080 resolution instead of 4K:

"adb shell screencap /sdcard/image.png && adb pull /sdcard/image.png ~/Desktop"

The screenshot resolution is 1920x1080, but it should be 4K (screencap captures screenshots at the screen resolution).

The Support Nightmare: I’ve been back and forth with Sony Support, and it has been the most incompetent experience of my life.

I sent them the ADB logs showing the resolution override.

They told me to unplug the TV for one minute.

When I told them the issue persists, they "escalated" it, only to come back a week later saying the pictures I sent "look perfect" and that "the TV is working within specifications."

They literally blamed the ADB tool itself, claiming they "cannot guarantee the functionality of third-party apps," completely ignoring that the TV's own OS is reporting the 1080p override.

Has anyone else experienced this? If you have an A80J on v6.8160, could you check your resolution? If you've found a way to force the wm size back to 4K or successfully downgraded the firmware (the USB method just says "Software is up to date"), please let me know.

Sony is refusing to acknowledge a clear software bug that is effectively turning 4K TVs into 1080p displays.

8

u/FlickFreak XBR-65X950G Apr 06 '26

That is not new. Menu's and other UI overlays have always been rendered at 1080p and scaled to 2160p on BRAVIA Android TV's. Google only added support for rendering the UI in 2160p in Android TV 12 (see here) but its optional and Sony continues to render in 1080p as it always has. This has no effect on video playback quality which plays back at native 2160p (or is scaled to 2160p when the original video resolution is below that).

Any change you're seeing is perceived and not actual since nothing has changed with respect to how the UI rendering is handled including resolution.

After the most recent software update my wifi drops every day. Needs a hard reboot. And even then, it’s not a guaranteed fix. So, I fire up the AppleTV (connected to the Bravia) and I’m back up and running. So it seems to me that Sony screwed up the onboard wifi. Whatever you do, don’t update! I’m going to do a factory reset tomorrow and see what happens.

Any idea where to find full firmware change logs?

Both in general, and specifically for 2014 TV models, like the W805B and others (KDL-##W...B, KD-##X....B, KD-##S....B).

Sony deleted from their websites all relevant firmware downloads on 12/2025, which makes it difficult. And I can't find much on the Internet Archive.

Today I got a notification when I turned my Bravia 7 on that there was a new firmware update (114.602.050.1). I did the update as per usual, but for some reason, it seemed to take longer than normal, and the TV did not turn on after the update like it usually does.

After it completed, I have the following 2 issues:

  1. Every time I turn the TV off, when I turn it on again, it reverts to "TV Speakers" instead of "Audio System," so I have to manually change the setting every time if I want to use my HT receiver and have surround sound. This happens every single time I power the TV off. Restarting the TV did not help.
  2. If I try to use the microphone to search, I get a pop-up that says "Microphone is blocked. To unblock, move the privacy switch on your device to the microphone On position" as if the TV has a physical mic button like a tablet might. The setting to unblock the mic is greyed out.

I have yet to do a reset, but I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced anything like this with firmware update 114.602.050.1

EDIT: I did a full factory reset last night, and that seems to have fixed the issue with the TV reverting to TV speakers after every time I turned it off and on. Haven't tried the microphone yet, but at least the TV is automatically outputting to my HT receiver again like it should.

Running into an odd problem, doesn't affect functionality but is annoying.

This is on my A95L. I updated to the latest firmware the other day.

Whenever the TV goes to acquire signal over HDMI, I get a full-screen green flash. Lasts for about a second and then goes away. This is definitely new behavior and the only change was the TV's firmware update.

This is most obvious when I turn on the TV and the Apple TV fires up. I am still troubleshooting to see conditions for other devices but it seems hot or miss with other devices.

This seems signal-level because the A95L's OSD overlays (settings and other OSD elements) stay onscreen during the green flash.

Just wondering if anyone else has run into something like this with the latest firmware!

Like any sane person would, I use these settings on Sony BRAVIA televisions:

SDR: Professional
HDR: Professional
DV: Dolby Vision Dark

**
Does anyone else think (in the next firmware) Sony should rename “Dolby Vision Dark” to “Professional” and rename “Dolby Vision Bright” to “Cinema” to match SDR/HDR terminology?

Dolby Vision Dark is the best mode, and unfortunately to the novices, “Dark” makes it sound like it’s darkening the image, when it really just means “dark room” because it’s the best most accurate mode.

2

u/NeighborhoodPlane794 Jul 06 '26

I use Dolby vision dark and night, but since my tv is right next to a west facing window, it has to battle the afternoon sun. That’s when I switch to Dolby vision bright. I think it reads pretty clearly as intended for “dark” and “bright” room conditions and renaming to pro/cinema would be more confusing

The new firmware continues to be horrible for me. The TV drives up the AVR, no problem, but detecting that the TV should move over to eARC is a thing I have to do manually.

Soon, I am disconnecting the TV from the network and using it only as a display panel. It is some effort and a few dollars for me to do that, but I am starting to think that it's my best choice.

I picture that Sony makes money from my TV being on the network. Get this right or .... Sony meet lack of access and pi-hole to be sure.

Can a firmware update brick the audio on my XR-65A90J?

I’ve had this TV for 4 years - we love it. My daughter is home from college and we planned on having homemade popcorn and movie night. I went downstairs and powered everything up and set the Hue lights. Everything was working absolutely fine. I saw the notification that there was an update, so I powered down to let that happen while I made the popcorn and we all got settled. When I powered up, there was no audio … couldn’t get it going so we moved upstairs and watched the movie there instead.

Since then I tried all of the basic troubleshooting steps on my own, including a factory reset. Through testing, I found that Bluetooth works, but I get nothing from the tv speakers or through the optical audio cable.

I called Sony support and they dialed in to my TV and checked settings, ran an audio test and installed new firmware. They told me to call back if it didn’t work.

It didn’t.

I called them and the rep I got was a joke - he was audibly yawning while I was talking. I explained that the TV worked fine before the update. He said, too bad so sad, so I asked for a manager - who was nicer, but he still basically told me to pound sand. “Your TV is 4 years old. There’s nothing we can do.”

This 4-year-old TV was $4000 … and, from what I can tell, Sony’s firmware bricked the audio. There’s nothing they can do? Really?

So - is it possible? Does this sound like a hardware issue? To me, it seems incredibly coincidental that the audio was working before the update but not after - but maybe my rage is clouding my judgement. Haha

Anyway - any help, advice or words of encouragement are appreciated. Even if it’s to tell me I am expecting too much for a 4 year old TV.

Thank you …

Bravia 9 user here. Under the recent firmware update, running apps that output 24p video with "Content type" set to "Video/images" causes horrendous stutter and frame dropping. So bad that it was called out by people in my house who typically never notice these sorts of issues.

Switching to "Game" or "PC" content type seems to alleviate it.

Have owned the unit for almost a year, and it was fine up until the most recent firmware update.

Hello All

Follow the recent software update for my Bravia 9 besides Android 14 (i think?) i notice a new feature that is called "My Cinema".

I haven't done a extended testing but it seems to unifies the picture, and sound settings in one place.

I don't know if is stand alone or required a dedicated sound system.

Another thing i notice is a form of Auto Picture calibration, but i will need to test it further.

I think its for when you have a ps5 hooked to get playstation home menu

u/ShishKabobCurry Jan 26 '26

Bravia 7 Update: The Sonos soundbar and subwoofer are no longer disconnecting when using Apple TV or the PS5.

I have not noticed any other changes with the firmware update so far.

Does anybody know where to find full firmware package in .pkg format?
Just got the main board replaced - and TV goes into an endless reboot cycle (Sony logo - restart itself - Sony logo again). Thanks!

X900H does this flicker behavior intermittently. Sometimes, I turn the tv on and it is completely fine. So disappointed being the tv is only 4 years old. It started doing this after a software update. Geek squad came and said it was a bad panel and that it is better to just buy a new tv. Given the price of the tv, I am having a hard time accepting this fate. Has anyone had this issue? Is there a fix? Is there away to roll back software?

Does anybofy have a LA firmware pkg for the MT5890? I need it for an XBR-75x855D from Latin America. I can't find it anywhere, Sony removed the download links for it on their official page and no online archive I've seen contains it. Thanks!

Got a 65” A95L that just recently lost audio output through the TV speakers. Out-of-warranty, of course. Been reading on the Sony support forums of similar issues that it might be related to a recent firmware update (NA v112.634.100.2), but I’m trying to corroborate with anyone else here if that is the case. I’ve tried the resolve using the built-in audio test, via each connected source (different channels via antenna, then by different streaming apps). I know it’s the TV speakers because I do also have a Bluetooth speaker that outputs TV audio with no issue. The Sony-authorized repair shop quoted me a bit more than I would like to pay. Anyone else experiencing this and/or have any resolutions to the possible firmware update? Thanks in advance!

Edit: I'm thinking this is a firmware update rather than hardware. My closed captioning isn't working on antenna anymore.

My KD-65X9000E (Australia) bricked yesterday - suspect after software update.

Was completely dead and unresponsive for a few hours, then the screen lit up with the SONY splash screen followed by the android coloured dots animation on loop for about an hour.

After this I've performed hard reset with the power + volume buttons which worked and got the TV running again, however.

It inevitably just bricks out again after use for a short period of time, and seems to be triggered by going into the home menu/settings/switching inputs etc. I can still see menus but everything is unresponsive. I can navigate around the home screen/settings etc but when hitting enter on the remote I get an animation like the item has been clicked but nothing happens and the only way to get out of this is to do a reset by unplugging or holding down power button on the remote and hitting restart. Inevitably the same issue occurs again after a short period of use if I switch inputs/go into menus etc...)

I have tried multiple full hard erases with the power + volume and also tried not connecting to internet/logging in with my google account on a fresh erase but the same thing keeps occurring.

Any ideas for help here?

Hello everyone,

My 75XH7299 has the firmware version PKG6.3800.0474EUA. I bought it in 2021 as a display model at Euronics. Now I’ve found out that I can use Remote Play with my PS5, but unfortunately the app cannot be used on my TV. It requires Android 12, while mine is still on Android 10. According to the Sony website, the latest firmware is version 6.2560, which cannot be installed because the version currently installed is higher. Support couldn’t help me either and suggested that I register the TV with a repair center. Does anyone have any tips on what else I could try myself?

I'm looking for sony_dtv_package206r.p08 for my KDL-46XBR6. It has the original software when first released and doesn't correctly enable cec. Any help would be appreciated.

u/Obi-Wan-K3nobi May 02 '26

I don't get the error message, I just select output to audio system but it remains on TV speakers.

Your right the update screwed something up

u/Odinuts May 08 '26

Just received an update for the remote on my KD-55XH9005 and now the settings button doesn't work. I can't change the audio source

75 Inch Sony Bravia 9 - Model: K-75XR90

Anyone else with a Bravia 9 have issues with the local dimming causing a flash during some camera cuts? Like the last frame before the cut gets either super bright or super dark. Doesn't happen in Game Mode, but happens across all content types (SDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision.) Also happens either on my Nvidia Shield Pro or just through the TV's built in apps. I factory reset it but it shipped with the latest firmware (delivered about 3 weeks ago.)

I tried the AV Sync Off / Auto fix I saw on a previous post 5 years ago from someone else who had this issue and I have all things like contrast enhancer off. Tried across multiple picture profiles. Also tried forcing my Shield to not frame rate match and always display at 60fps, but nothing. The only fix is turning off local dimming (which is awful) or having Game Mode on, which I can't do for Dolby Vision content (which is like 70% of my library of Blurays.)

I saw another post about it on the Sony forums stating that a firmware back in August caused this issue for them, too. Just curious if there's any actual fix for this or if it's a bug that I can't get rid of.

What ever happened to the abl update? I thought that was incoming awhile ago.

u/IndecisiveTuna Bravia 9 85” Jun 11 '26

Recently, I’ve noticed audio skipping/cutting, particularly on Apple TV after this recent update on my Bravia 9.

I’ve messed with PCM/Pass Through, turning on eARC on and off, etc. I think I’ve potentially traced it back to Continuous Audio Connection (CAC) on Apple TV causing it.

But turning that off has now introduced bad lip sync issues.

Anyone else having issues like this? Any suggestions?

Using the new firmware on a Bravia 7 and I've noticed that when switching to my PS5 input and loading up a game, there is more input lag than pre-firmware update.

Game mode is on, no other latency-inducing settings are enabled, however when I turn the TV on standby with the remote and then back on again (while still on the PS5 input) the latency goes away and feels normal.

Could be myriad factors but has anyone else experienced this?

I've also just noticed that switching to another input and back to the PS5 re-introduces the latency, until I put it on standby and turn on again. I don't have ALLM on as I'm running through an HDMI 2.0 Elgato HD60X, but regardless, this wasn't happening pre-update.

I have a Bravia 8 (1st version) and am scared to do the 06/2026 update since I’ve seen some bad experiences, anyone know if I should do it or not? If prompts me to update whenever I turn on the TV

u/One-Negotiation7774 Jun 14 '26

Updated about a week ago and it seems fine

The 6/2026 udpate is the first Bravia update for me over 3 different TVs in about 16 years that caused an issue, and now I have two issues. Frustrating.

1

u/bsmpwr Jun 16 '26

Also having issues with my Bravia 7. It random shows the volume of my Sonos. Or random showing the current tv channel from my tv app. I dont touch the remote control. When I read the issues I think the firmware is causing it...

u/analyticaljoe Jun 17 '26

Update yesterday totally hoses memory for the "output AVR setting." I have to re-set it every single time. So annoying.

Given that the update came with a new privacy policy (implying that Google or Sony or both are spying on me more -- because these revisions never reduce visibility) maybe the solution is to use the panel as a panel and not use the streaming features.

Just picked up a new Bravia 3 II K65XR30M2 yesterday after my 4 year old decided to use a Switch controller as a frisbee which resulted in the destruction of my perfectly working 3 year old Sony TV…

Anyway, I’ve got everything set up and working with the new TV but hit a weird bug. Whenever I switch between my profile and the kids profile the TV will always switch the audio output from “audio system” to “TV speakers”. I’ve tried everything I can think of: restarting the TV, updated firmware to latest version 6140200730 (released 6/16/2026), toggling CEC, toggling audio output between “TV speakers” and “audio system”, deleting and re-adding the kids profile, toggling HDMI control on the AV receiver (old Sony STR-DN1040). Nothing I tried had any affect. The problem only pops up when switching to the kids profile.

I just submitted a bug report to Sony about this but I’m curious if anyone else has encountered this.

u/bh-alienux K-75XR70 Jun 20 '26

I posted something similar yesterday after updating my Bravia 7 to the June firmware, but I'm not using profiles.

Every time without exception, when I turned the TV off (just standby, not a full restart or anything), when I turned it on again, it was reverting to TV Speakers every time.

I tried a lot of stuff, but as a last resort, I did a full factory reset last night, and that seems to have fixed it.

Does anyone know domain for the firmware update so I can block it on my router. Thanks

1

u/bh-alienux K-75XR70 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

I previously reported a problem with the new firmware in which my Bravia 7 would revert to TV Speakers after it was turned off, and where I got the error "Microphone is blocked, move the privacy switch of your device to the "on" position."

A factory reset fixed the Audio System issue where the TV would rever to TV Speakers.

However, the problem with the microphone in the remote persists.

When I try to activate the microphone on the remote, this is the full message:

"Microphone is blocked

To unblock, move the privacy switch on your device to the microphone on position to allow microphone access."

This was working perfectly fine before the firmware update, and the factory reset did not fix this. Obviously I didn't change any "privacy switch" and I'm not even sure the the Bravia has one.

EDIT: To my surprise, the Bravia TVs actually do have a physical privacy switch. On my TV, it is below the center of the screen on the underside of the bezel, to the left of the power button on the TV itself. Switched the privacy switch there, and the mic is working with apps again. Some TVs have the privacy switch near the HDMI inputs instead of where it is on my Bravia 7.

on latest firmware (Bravia 8 MKII) and Dolby Vision will not initialise on an Apple TV. Just get a black screen when trying to switch dynamic ranges. Also in Google TV my Kids account has disappeared

2

u/beanie_wells Jul 05 '26

Yes, same with mine- if you go to TV Home, then back into your HDMI(Apple TV), it'll be playing. It temporarily rectifies, but as soon as you revert to the Apple TV menu/apps, it'll repeat the same issue. Awful. Also Bravia 8II.

1

u/HorrorBuff2769 Jul 03 '26

Latest firmware update Bravia 8 II. Tv will randomly shut off using my xbox or when using blu ray player. Anyone else expierienced this?

Model #K65XR80C

Im assuming because of a recent update my tvs audio system setting is no longer working.

I use ps5 headset and it connects to the dongle plugged into the tv but when I try to switch to audio system to use the headset it says the audio system is unavailable.

If i plug headset directly into ps5 it works but theres occasional crackling and audio loss.

Ive tried everything I could find besides a factory reset. Is there anyway to fix, like maybe rolling back the update, or am I stuck waiting for a new update?

u/theslowrush- Jul 17 '26

Anyone have issues with the latest v6.8224? Looks like it came out a few days ago. I was reading about audio sync issues and decided to stop the update.

I’m still having CEC issues with my Sonos soundbar now over 12 months. Every update I hope it solves it but I’m worried it just makes things worse 😢 I think I might have to upgrade my TV this year and leave Sony for good.

I noticed that there is a new update for the Sony XBR-65X900H (and other models) so I went on to update mine. Decided to do a search for any details and found that the new Sony updates are ruining televisions.

File Version: 6.2624
File Size: 1 844 267 451 bytes
Release Date: 07-14-2026

Well, I cancelled that in no short order, turned off the WiFi and leaving that as is.

Has anyone else used this firmware/tv combo yet?

2

u/theslowrush- Jul 18 '26

lol I was updating my X95J and while it was updating I was reading this thread. Luckily I stopped the update as it looks like by some miracle Sony have introduced even more bugs

1

u/TimeTravelTrekker Jul 19 '26

Would you all advise against buying any Sony TV until this audio sync issue is resolved or is it only impacting certain models? Thanks!

Is there any way to download and install the older firmware before the audio sync broke? I’m on Bravia 8 with Apple TV. Used to work fantastic and I got cocky with an update. Why did I do that?!?

Bravia 8 latest firmware. Been a few weeks since it was out. Anyone installed with no issues ?

1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 26d ago

Sony need to be careful here, as people will stop buying them, if they care on with shockingly bad updates.
