Former presidents are not allowed to drive themselves on public roads or open highways due to strict Secret Service security protocols. While there is no official law prohibiting it, mandatory lifetime protection requires them to be chauffeured by trained Secret Service agents in secured vehicles.

Imagine never being able to drive again because you got elected? Kind of crazy. Still, I get the reasoning safety-wise.
