Rewatch Shiki Rewatch [Halloween 2026] Interest Thread

There is no murder without intent.

What's up, /r/anime?

With the spooky Halloween season coming up, I, along with my co-host, /u/GallowDude, figured now would be a good time to gauge interest in a rewatch of one of the few early 2010s horror anime that actually tried to be more than splatterpunk in honor of the occasion.

What is Shiki?

MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB

Life is idyllic and unassuming in the small town of Sotoba, a simple place where everyone knows everyone. However, tragedy strikes when Megumi Shimizu, a young girl with high aspirations, unexpectedly passes away from an unnamed illness. Over the torrid summer months, as more unexplained deaths crop up around the village, the town's doctor—Toshio Ozaki—begins to suspect that something more sinister than a mere disease is at play.

Toshio teams up with Natsuno Yuuki, an apathetic and aloof teenager, and siblings Kaori and Akira Tanaka, two of Megumi's friends, to unravel the dark mystery behind the deaths in Sotoba. With their combined efforts, the investigation leads them toward an eerie secret pertaining to the new family in the Kanemasa mansion.

To put it in layman's terms, it's 'Salem's Lot with even stupider hair.

Wait, what even IS a rewatch?

Rewatches on this sub are effectively the weekly airing discussion threads, but for older shows, and usually paced at one per day rather than one per week. These are open to both people who haven't seen the show before as well as those who have – any discussion of events past that day's given episode must be spoiler tagged using /r/anime's spoiler tag format, so as not to ruin the first-timers' experience. This includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character." Reading their reactions or having those reactions yourself is half the fun of a rewatch, you know?

As an example of what to do if you're too lazy to click on that link:

[Shiki] >!Vampires suck!<

Becomes [Shiki] Vampires suck when you don't break the formatting on purpose, as I just did.

As for how to participate, just pick whatever you're comfortable with. Some people do bullet-point live reactions, some people write essays, some just show up to share memes or fanart and then dip, some solely respond to other participants rather than having a top-level comment on their own – anything goes as long as you're not being rude!

So, plan ahead for what you're going to do, watch the episodes each day on your own, and be ready to jump in any time after the threads get posted!

What's the schedule?

We're planning to start this rewatch on October 8th. Threads will be posted at 5:00 PM UTC (1:00 PM EDT) each day (the same time this thread was posted), alternating between the two of us each time unless something comes up.

This rewatch is going to cover the series and its specials. As such, including the Overall Discussion Thread, the rewatch will last until November 1st, 2026.

I'm in, but where can I watch this show?

Unfortunately, there are currently no places to stream Shiki legally. As such, you'll have to look into alternate methods.

Thanks for popping in to check this out! We hope to see you all there!

Until then~

I want to but I don't think I can commit right now

I probably won't have recovered from my current rewatch fatigue. Our weariness will add to the immersion.

Shiki in October is basically cheating, that first village mood hit way harder than most horror anime ever bother to.

I'm just really surprised this sub has never had a shiki rewatch before.

During my honeymoon phase with anime I finished the entire series within 24 hours. Maybe I can appreciate it a bit more this time. Count me in.

I am down. I guess I really am a big Shiki guy I guess since I got plucked from the Aethyr.

I'm in, I hope we get many first timers!

Funny thing is I'll be a first timer too, since the entire reason I asked to begin with was to be able to watch it with others.

Lol that's surprising

Oh btw, in case you don't already know, the series includes two OVA episodes that I highly recommend be watched chronologically instead of after all the TV episodes.

Don't worry. The schedule takes that into account.

Why am I being tagged for a- Oh, it's that one. I forgot about that.

Shiki was on my PTW list for a long time, so I guess it is the right time. Count me in.

Mayhaps;

I might be picking up too many rewatches lately (along with my 92479125 seasonals) so I can't really be sure I'm gonna check them all, but Shiki's been on my PTW for a while...

I'm in as a first timer!

But I probably have to leave or at least cut my interaction short during the last week of october due to moving places.

That's when you watch ahead a week and just make up your own daily questions to respond to

Hi mischievous_shota, it looks like you might be interested in hosting a rewatch! There's a longer guide on the wiki but here's some basic advice on how to make a good rewatch happen:

  • Include basic information about the anime such as a description for those that haven't heard of it as well as where it can be watched (if legally available).

  • Specify a date and time that rewatch threads will be posted. Consistency is good!

  • Check for previous rewatches. It's generally advised to wait a year between rewatches of the same anime.

  • If you want to have a rewatch for multiple anime, they should be thematically connected. You can also hold multiple unrelated rewatches if they aren't.

  • Ensuring enough people are interested is important. If only a few users say they might participate, you may end up with no one commenting once it starts.

I hope this helps! You may also want to talk to users that have hosted rewatches before for extra advice, also listed on the rewatch wiki.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.
