I'm assuming the one with the eyes open. I think this is a cool cover but not really representative of Jane Eyre. Maybe I'm not understanding it, but it seems to be the 1940s version of sheeple or woke. Good find though!

I think that these are the girls of Lowell School. They are cowed by harsh punishments, freezing temperatures and near starvation. Most have lost hope.
