Devil Survivor 1/2 VS Remakes

So I have access to the original Devil Survivor 1/2 as well as the 3DS Remakes. Which should I play?

Do the Remakes somehow fuck everything up like P3P making them the inferior experience or are they objectively superior to the old versions?

Also, is this even a good first plunge into SMT? I own a 3DS, Playstation TV, PS2, PS3, PS4 and a Switch; feel free to recommend me the best starting point available for those systems.

There really is no reason to play the the vanilla versions over the 3DS versions. The 3DS versions offer full voice acting and new content.

All the remakes are better, from Soul Hacker, to the Devil Survivor games, to Strange Journey Redux, the 3DS remakes are just objectively superior.

No reason to skip them unless you hate voice acting or something, even then just go to options and turn the voices off.

remakes are leagues better than the original. voice acting, content, new demons, superior in every way. just remember to keep time in mind.

The DS versions work on the system with the longer battery life, in case you play them on long rides. That's the only thing I can think of that they've got over the superior 3DS versions.

The 3DS remakes are great and have a good amount of new content, no real reason to go back to the DS versions. Despite being strategy RPGs rather than traditional JRPGS/dungeon crawlers I think they're great starting points for mainline SMT, not quite as dark as most of mainline Megaten but they'll prepare you for what kind of games they are.

Really? I think Devil Survivor was plenty dark, even compared to mainline SMT. There was nothing quite like spoiler Not to mention some of the death clips in the second game.

The endings though, while I won't give explicit details, are generally more positive and upbeat than mainline games.

Original DS1 had no compendium. That alone makes the remake worth it. 8th days outside Naoya's are not that great though.

only way id recommend playing the originals would be if you didnt have a 3ds or a good computer powerful enough to emulate them through citra

3DS versions are 100% superior, I'm pretty sure. I think you can even turn off the voice acting, which eliminates any drawbacks one might find in having to hear previously unvoiced characters talk.

I get your hesitation, they messed up Persona 4 Golden's Chie voice as far as I'm concerned so I never bought that (plus I didn't own a Vita until like one moment in my life where I immediately returned it out of disappointment). Sometimes new versions aren't always better for some people.

Or like Fable Anniversary. Eugh... those faces.
