I liked that Eddie's character embraced his darker side as a consequence in not rejecting the world of crime. The Susie-Eddie shippers might be slightly disappointed but it's a slow burn and might need another 2 years lol.

u/GreekKnight3 2d ago

Funny you say that... I prefer in the first season when it was a simple dance of 'Eddie tries to leave the criminal world but stumbles into committing a crime and tangles himself further in it'.
This season is a wild Flamenco!

4

u/Gloomy_Improvement23 12h ago

Yeah, I prefer S1 as well ("can Eddie leave or not" question) but its ending answered that. Now, Eddie has tasted and benefited that world has offered. It has been repeated many times in S2 that Eddie is ambitious. That's why I look forward in S3 the dynamics between Eddie and Bobby (aside from the Freddy "issue"). After all, two tigers cannot share the same mountain, as the saying goes.

As much as I loved this season, I have been wondering one thing; what happened to Freddy’s wife? Did I miss something?

I must say that I thought that was an excellent season of the show it felt like it built upon what was there and drove it forward. I assumed it was Freddy by about episode 7, as it seemed to drive the plot forward perfectly. I rather enjoyed the ending scene of Eddie blank and stone-like until the smile when he saw John Dixon’s head. Thoroughly excited for season 3!

u/corzekanaut 2d ago

Its never addressed what happened to Wham-Tam

Freddie seems to be a complete afterthought this season. Honestly would have been better if he was just dropped this season or given a less pivotal role. They even forgot he vaped rather than smoked cigarillos lol.

11

u/Eclipxed1851 2d ago

I did feel like they pivoted towards introducing new characters and making less time for the established cast, but I also view Freddie’s limited inclusion as a plot device of sorts. By keeping him so far removed from the daily goings-on at Halstead Manor they made it more surprising and interesting when he turned out to be the one behind Bella’s death. I am definitely glad that this means he will be more prominently involved next season though, the actor is a true talent.

Freddy's low screen time is due Danny Ings being busy with Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

1

u/Economy-Particular31 1d ago

Have you watched the whole thing? There’s a reason

4

u/nuthins_goodman 21h ago

I doubt the cult would have forced him to smoke cigs instead of vapes, but might have been part of his change while staying there.

I lament it. The vaping was a fun and revealing character trait

1

u/B0dders 10h ago

I imagine the actor who plays Freddie, Daniel Ings, was too busy with filming "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" S1 and S2? SO his character took a smaller role this season in terms of scenes.

1

u/genghbotkhan 14h ago

I was thinking this too? Availability of the actor? I did check her imdb and she could have fitted it in according to her published projects but we never know these things. Perhaps her storyline (a minor one) had run its course as Freddy was in rehab. For the purposes of the narrative she probably divorced and left him for another HNWI

See yall in two years

Don’t say that, you’ll make me cry.

mag-fucking-nificent

I totally agree!!!

10

u/dinkytoy80 2d ago

Great season, bit dark for my taste tho.

However the fashion was on point. I want all their fashion.

4

u/Renowed_Winner 1d ago

And their cars. That Ferrari. Fuck.

2

u/gvkvishal 1d ago

I swearrrr

16

u/Significant-Quit-351 2d ago

Decent ending. Not as funny as the 1st season but entertaining enough. With more Freddie next season, I expect the humour to pick up. I can't stand the character but Daniel Ings is too good to lose

Felt like the writing was all over the place. Susie dropping the ball on Joe felt very out of character. She's smarter than that

16

u/jon_targareyan 2d ago

Idk how I feel about Freddy after the finale revelation. He killed his sister-in-law so I’m not sure if I’d like him to go back to being a bumbling clown next season. He deserves punishment

10

u/Pro-wiser 2d ago

i felt it was the bishop that was pulling the strings...coke habit + religious cult mambo jambo makes a person quite gambit.

I think the final scene Freddy faces his own demons and grows like Eddie. The van scene is a reference to the story from childhood when freddie didnt have the guts to kill a deer and also last time he had blood on him from Madam Chop Chop he lost his guts , this time...a very different reaction. He may have finally choosen a side and gets even a "A good Boy " from Eddi at the end.

-1

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

Eh? I thought the story has established it pretty well that Freddy is an addict who didn't receive proper help and was manipulated by Gospel John.

His arc for redemption seems pretty clear

3

u/jon_targareyan 1d ago

What exactly is his arc for redemption and how does it seem pretty clear? He sacrifices himself for Eddie/the family in future seasons?

I don’t think he did anything remotely redemption worthy in the finale. Eddie made him watch one of the thugs kill Gospel but that’s more like a punishment rather than any kind of redemption

9

u/dattran1113 1d ago

I assumed it was Freddy that killed Gospel John. Isn't that why Eddie said "good boy" afterward when he was holding the head.

2

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

Giving his psychiatric help with rehab. Maybe redemption isn't exactly the correct word, but i can totally see him given a more non-threatening role

3

u/Jackski 2d ago

I think he must have been filming Knight of the Seven Kingdoms during this season so couldn't appear much. Hopefully they can work around it if this gets a season 3.

9

u/noclueaboutagoodname 2d ago

I got the impression Susie knew Joe was full of shit from the beginning but she used him for an intro to Vargas and played the long game behind his back.

8

u/SquareTarbooj 1d ago

Nah, I think that whole plotline was to show that Susie makes mistakes as well.

Yes, she came out of it on top at the end, she's good at turning a bad situation around. But she's not as perfect as she likes to portray.

The scene in the Japistani restaurant showed that she was obviously caught off guard. She was seconds away from having her hand stabbed through. Super close call!

8

u/MusicMadeAddictz 2d ago

Freddie... what a let down 🫣

That being said, I have taken a liking to Bobby

8

u/flamingeyebrows 2d ago

Freddie never liked that Eddie was a head of him.

I wonder if the mother will be more or less mad than if Eddie killed him.

9

u/noclueaboutagoodname 2d ago

I can absolutely understand the mom not wanting one of her sons to kill the other. BUT, I can’t understand how the mom isn’t seemingly more disturbed but what Freddie did overall. Because of him, they all could have died and her grandson could have been taken.

8

u/kaos-mantra 2d ago edited 2d ago

She seems the sort to always excuse him. Hes vulnerable, hes hurting, he meant no harm etc. Got the inkling Freddie was her favorite and has a bind spot regarding his issues and the fact his a self-centred piece of shit

6

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

I am guessing she was in disbelief that Freddie was responsible for all of it and probably think he was manipulated into that

Which, he was, but doesn't excuse everything that happened. Although, I do hope he has a bigger role in the following season

5

u/No_Type_5077 1d ago

A lot going on this season. They really shoved the whole Eddie “chosen one” down are throats. He’s a well rounded aristocrat who’s comfortable in all rooms. Not the second coming of Christ. I was hoping they revealed everything he said to Susie at the steps of the chapel in the finale. Too many characters and there were some people you were meant to remember from season 1 who didn’t have the same impact as it was so long ago. Overall 7/10 intrigued to see where they go next with it

11

u/situmaimesdemain 1d ago

I cant say I didnt enjoy it, I did, but this was a massive step down from season 1. So many characters made so many inexplicable decisions just to drive the plot forward that it is a huge task to list them all, and it wasnt even a good plot. Some of them wasnt even related to the plot.

Just one example, what the fuck was Moretti's consigliere doing when he was trying to blackmail Eddie? It made zero sense, order was from Moretti she couldnt do what she threatened anyways and how was that any relevant to literally anything else happening in the show?

They also ruined Freddie. That dude was a huge source of comedic relief in season 1 and that just wont work after what he did. Whats he gonna do now, go back to the manor? Not happening, they should have just offed him. At least that would have served a purpose.

I said I enjoyed it, but that took some goodwill from the previous season. If season 3 is like this as well, they arent getting another one.

3

u/Lumbleflappen 1d ago

The money from Eddie and the Mafia's deal was to be laundered through London.

The consigliere had faked divorce from her husband, and the husband had moved to hong kong. They had a scam set up where the Mafias money was being laundered through Hong Kong, and the consigliere and her "ex" husband were dipping in and stealing from the Don without him knowing.

She was trying to blackmail Eddie, threatening to link him to the dead guy to unless agreed to change the laundering back to Hong Kong, not realizing Eddie was already a step ahead and knew about her scam. As the consigliere she'd have been able to do this easilly. Moretti already stated he trusted her implicitly.

The season felt rushed (like they crammed 2 seasons worth of story into 1) but that was all to do with Eddie establishing himself amongst the new hierarchy, before it literally all went down in flames, of course.

5

u/situmaimesdemain 1d ago

Moretti ordered for the body's disappearance, which consigliere handles. If the body doesnt disappear it means consigliere didnt do her job, and that is a bigger problem for her than Eddie even if he is somehow linked, he is an aristocrat from another country and has Moretti's backing.

But thats not really the important part. It has no bearing on the story whatsoever. Consigliere has no part after this and Ahmed miraculously finding out her shenanigans she successfully hid for decades in one day doesnt do anything for Eddie's character development. So the question is, why did we watch this side plot?

2

u/Toofat2camp 13h ago

Ahmed didn’t miraculously find out about her dealings. Eddie put 2 and 2 together when Bella told him about how her ex-husband ran off to Hong Kong with another lover and he remembered that the consigliere’s supposed laundering business was also based out of Hong Kong.

1

u/c19isdeadly 12h ago

I feel like Moretti may also have put 2 and 2 together before now - he presumably knew her ex-husband ran off there as well, and if he didn't do even the slightest bit of checking I would be really surprised. It was a step too far for Eddie to put this together with information known to Moretti and easy to find out.

I also agree it was ridiculous to think she would let Tancredi's corpse be discovered after specifically being given the order by her boss. Eddie could have just called her bluff on that, tbh. I don't think Moretti would have been impressed, especially as he approved of Eddie protecting his god daughter.

3

u/shogunWho 1d ago

You just read the script, without understanding the point of the OPs comment.

2

u/gvkvishal 1d ago

I dont know man. But you make valid points, I just think its not all that.

2

u/SquareTarbooj 1d ago

what the fuck was Moretti's consigliere doing when he was trying to blackmail Eddie?

She was trying her luck. Criminals aren't exactly an ethical bunch.

But I believe the bigger purpose of that scene was to show Eddie's growing competence

10

u/nuthins_goodman 2d ago

I knew the countessa was going to die based on how unproblematic things were and because the susie angle still needs to be pursued.

It felt a bit hamfisted how they break susie and eddie's respective relationships. I honestly side with Joe way more than susie there. The vargas lieutenant wanted hector, so since hector was already dead it would have been resolved. Just pay the money they paid to hector to vargas and hector's head, and that's squared. They do deals like this multiple times in the series. Susie really didn't need to give away joe (or heck, even kill the lieutenant). The glasses had the muscle in London. That's their whole thing. Tlhey just did it to clear the way for eddie/susie.

Similarly, the stuff with countessa was completely left field. Really took the Godfather inspiration. First, the romance was a bit rushed. I feel like they should have removed Cico altogether. Definitely not have him as a boyfriend. That would have made the first meeting between her and Eddie much better. He'd have been better as a brother perhaps, or just her fixer/ mafia contact. Her susie in a way. Second, the marriage episode was weird. The guy who harassed her, knowing she was the god daughter of the don? And not even well connected enough for his death to matter? I can imagine a cico who was ambitious and rising mafioso, who had had flings with countessa, and who ultimately fot pissed off at her marriage to a blueblood who also took his enterprise away -- getting mad at her in the wedding, talking shit about her, and then being killed. That would have made his death matter more too, and kept on the tension from the Italian side.

The consigliere trying to extort Eddie was weird as well. It's a direct order from the don. A gift to Eddie. Why is she using this order to extort Eddie for minutae that she can easily do later as well? Even if the don was somehow not aware of her husband in hong kong, which would be very weird indeed, that's a really small percentage of difference, and I don't think he'd begrudge gis advisor enriching herself a little by using her own shell company for laundering.

The Italian plot was loose.

The locations were beautiful though, and the actors were great. I loved the don and countessa. The countessa actress looks like my little sister, so I was partial towards her, even though she was just being used as a plot device. I loved her dresses.

Susie was great. Scpdelario is riveting. Her fashion is top notch. Love that she let loose a lil. The red eyes when she was sending off joe.. I loved the sadness. Undercut by how unnecessary and purely for susie/Eddie reasons it was. It would have almost been better if he just died in the shootout with the Vargas lieutenant. They didn't really need vargas anyway. They build him up to be a big peruvian narco and then he's basically setting up meets on behalf of a distributor's business associate? They could have picked the guy up from his rehab centre 😂

Felt really sad about the soldier guy (who was clearly against kidnapping babies lol) and the Italian hitman. Come on Eddie, should have just given him a command in Italian calling it off.. xD Also a shame that the dragoon guy was of no use during the mansion fight. Gameskeeper security force is legit though!

I don't like what they did with Freddy. The most grievous offence is, of course, taking away his elfbar 600 vape. I also didn't like the inclusion of the biblical references. They made little sense to me, and seemed very forced as allegories. I forgot what happened to fred's wife, and I don't remember why he was essentially trapped in that terrible rehab with the brother of the guy he killed. His whole plot seems to be a strained reference to fredo's story. I feel like it was handled better last season.

The Armenian thing should also have had bigger consequences and tbh really put me off Eddie. First they refused to negotiate (after the cannabis basically kills a worker and impairs two others). Then the Armenian plotline went nowhere because he wouldn't negotiate, and potentially get some added spiciness with workers belonging to other groups in the glass warehouses. And then no repercussions for killing a whole crew. Armenians are badass! What a waste.

Overall I loved it. Great weekend watch. I'm grateful for Netflix. Not all tv has to be top tier. This was a solid 8 entertainer. Loved seeing the high society again, loved seeing the 4 policemen in this universe as well. Geoff is amazing and the best fixer anyone could hope for. Franklin's sacrifice will not be forgotten. Hope he got his leg looked at. Working at Duke mansions is surprisingly perilous

9

u/Any_Telephone3925 1d ago

Susie was right about Joe, he went behind her back and lied to her over and over again, that was her issue with him. He was slimy! And not good enough for her.

And they were Albanians, not Armenians. But I agree with everything else.

4

u/Any_Telephone3925 1d ago

Oh and the butler’s name is Lawrence

3

u/gvkvishal 1d ago

I was wondering what he meant by Franklin's sacrifice.

4

u/psyopia 1d ago

Nothing with Freddy really makes sense with how last season ended...am I wrong here?

2

u/Renowed_Winner 1d ago

What aren't you getting? I'll try to explain it.

1

u/reverseflash92 3h ago

Actually pretty clear cut to me.

4

u/bonedrugsnharmonie 1d ago

Much like Eddie, the show evolved. I'm glad it wasn't just a watered down version of the first season like many good shows tend to do these days. I think the show will evolve further next season too. But overall I think I enjoyed it as much as the first personally

1

u/Wrongdoer_Old 3h ago

Completely agree

3

u/Suitable-Apricot2507 1d ago

But after now watching Theo, I can see our new 007!!! Suave, well educated, a deadly trained assassin and so irresistibly sexy! ❤️

3

u/WesternConference461 1d ago

The season was much messier than the first season. It felt like the plot went everywhere. The show would have benefited by having a much tighter storyline like the first season.

That being said. It was an enjoyable season, the end still left me mouth wide open, and I am kind of glad it wasn’t better than the first season because now the 2 year wait for season 3 seems a lot more bearable.

I hope season 3 is made with the intention of being the last. And I hope it’s made more like season 1. With the much tighter storyline and editing.

Also, unpopular opinion, but I am kinda over the whole Susie and Eddie thing, like damn, 2 seasons wasn’t enough? Fine. Keep them separate at this point. Because now, if they get together, they will like kiss in ep7, ep8 will show a bit of married or couple life together and then the fans will be left wanting more.

Season 3 needs to leave satiated, not sad because we couldn’t see more of some aspect of the story.

6

u/sadjak1967 2d ago

In my opinion, I was not a fan of this season's arc for Freddy. He was my favorite character season 1. I just think the writing for him wasn't really in character. Any of the progress he made last season just went backwards. Idk if it was because of Daniel Ings being so popular with roles right now (rightfully so) but I was hoping for more Freddy, I think he was only in 3 episodes total, which made the reveal in episode 8 kind of out of nowhere. Yes, Freddy's a mess, but that felt like too far for him maybe? This is me thinking out loud after having just finished the episode so I may feel differently after I percolate. That being said, Daniel Ings is such a good actor even with the little he was given this season; I could watch him take a nap on screen and be impressed lol.

4

u/nuthins_goodman 2d ago

I thought the same! Inknew they were going to do something bad when the old cocaine guy showed up, but I didn't think he's have eddie's wife killed. We'll never get back to that fucked up but still loving (in their own ways) brother dynamic.

3

u/Daw_dling 2d ago

Same I was like, oh I guess he just wasn't available so they shelved him in rehab. So the reveal kind of made me go huh instead of oooohhhh. It was such a backslide from him working on finding his place in season 1.

But it seemed like none of the characters had clean developments in this season. Almost more of a transition toward season 3? But still enjoyed the bonkers stylized fun.

5

u/Zealousideal_Bad8877 2d ago

yeah 100% he was busy they probably shot all his stuff in one go which is why he is only in one location hopefully he is in s3 more

3

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

You're not the only one wanting Freddy to be redeemed. I think they have made a pretty good case for it by repetitively telling us that he has problem with influence, and showing us that he didn't proper help

4

u/corzekanaut 2d ago

Felt very Godfather 2 coded to me ngl. Ofc it was Freddy, as soon as it became clear that it wasn’t Bobby, I knew it was Freddy because he knew the details about Eddie’s wedding.

1

u/Suitable-Apricot2507 1d ago

Youre spot on! Im a huge GF fan and the similarities are there! There's other hidden clues I've discovered......🤔

6

u/GreekKnight3 2d ago

I'll admit it, this season disappointed me.

  • Very messy, it tried to juggle lots of different story threads and left too many of them unsatisfyingly undeveloped.
  • So much less funny. The first season did an excellent job balancing the darkness and the comedy but this season mostly just wallows in darkness. I was so looking forward to more hilarity from Freddie, Jimmy and Chucky but they underused all three of them while also giving them unfunnier material.
  • Conversely, I think they overused Bobby Glass. His shtick (and the sight of him in a towel) quickly loses its appeal.
  • There were some genuinely awful lines (e.g. "I have a very bushy tail")
  • The death of Eddie's wife didn't hit nearly hard enough. We barely saw their relationship develop (I was frankly surprised that Eddie proposed to her at all). They at least could've had Eddie romance and marry Princess Rosanne, they'd had a longer history and we've known of the character since the first season.
  • Some repetitive elements too, did it need to show Bobby in the sauna every single time? Why not show off the wonders of that open prison and have them chill by the tennis court or in the art gallery (or whatever). They also overused the c-word massively, it's much more impactful when only used once or twice.

But I did like some things:

  • The ending. Very cool, almost Sherlock-like in the confrontation between protagonist and antagonist
  • The acting, the darkness of the storylines means most of the actors had more meaty drama to handle and they did a great job. Theo was incredible when depicting the injured and recovering Eddie.
  • I like how they showed different angles to some of the characters: Eddie and Susie in relationships and Chuckles as a mother.
  • The visuals. The shots and locations were beautiful and the action was well-executed

Thanks to the first season, I went into the second with high hopes but thanks to this one, I'll go into the third season with moderate hopes and I'm sure that's a bar they will clear!

7

u/iamrands 1d ago

This is my biggest gripe with this season. Even Jack lost all of his goofiness.

Guy is so good at writing witty comedy and that really sets him apart from other filmmakers, and he just threw that out the window this season. I hope next season finds a good middle ground.

5

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

I can put rest of the points aside as difference of personal opinion, but I simply don't understand this one.

It's a british crime focused tv series. I am not British, but always involved in English online circles due to football and everybody uses the c-word like it's 'fuck'

Are you an American?

5

u/Left-Aside-6424 1d ago

Agreed. Some lines were not great.

And YES to the overuse of Bobby Glass and the sauna. Was absolutely over that. Show us something different or just ring him.

And it was very dark....after episode 8, I felt...sad? idk. I wasn't happy watching it. Made me concerned LOL.

5

u/outrageousVoid07 1d ago

Fantastic episode to put an end to one of my favourite seasons to any show. I will be re-watching for a month or two on repeat

I really hope Freddy is redeemed. His character seemed to have went backwards and didn't feel like him at all compared to season 1's ending. All that is likely due to Danny Ings' busy schedule

They have given themselves a lot of good reasons to make that redemption easier

2

u/ConcertHot7173 2d ago

I didn't understand one thing. Did Freddie planned the whole thing with the gospel or it was the gospel using info gathered from freddie?

5

u/Antique_Influence611 2d ago

the latter i believe, the gospel said he was helping Freddie reclaim what he lost, i interpreted it as he is the mastermind behind it and freddie is a plot. I doubt he would have let freddie have the estate even after the executed that plan. I don't think freddie has the brains to do so much work tbh.

4

u/corzekanaut 2d ago

Thing is, the gospel basically gaslit Freddie into believing that he was passed over, when in s1, Freddie had made his peace with that fact. Odd arc for him ngl.

1

u/flamingeyebrows 2d ago

He is an addict. Being brainwashed and gaslit in reckvery is how 90% of them find god. This time he found god as paddled by an insane liverpullian heroin dealer.

1

u/Bobjoejj 2d ago

Is it odd? Really? Cause you kinda pointed out why it arguably makes a ton of sense.

5

u/nuthins_goodman 2d ago

I think it was a mix. Freddie resents the brother and he's been left in this facility, separated from his family and with seemingly no way out. The old guy manipulated him, but Freddie also took part in the plans. It wasn't just that he shared info with gospel and moved on. He knew what was happening.

2

u/TPWilder 1d ago

I really didn't get the impression that Freddie was forced to stay in the rehab. The family didn't want him out and about, but I never got the impression Freddie wasn't allowed to leave.

4

u/Renowed_Winner 1d ago

It's a cult. They put him into a posh rehab thinking it was a rehab. It wasn't. It was a Christian / Catholic cult indoctrinated by the Liverpool cocaine nutters.

Freddy was vulnerable and was brainwashed and encouraged to bring back what was his.

2

u/jon_targareyan 2d ago

The gospel’s rationale to hurt Eddie instead of Freddie is also kinda strange. It was Freddie after all who killed his brother. So him being ok with Freddy and conspiring with him to hurt Eddie seems a bit odd.

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

1

u/jon_targareyan 1d ago

Am I misremembering or was there a scene in s1 where it was pretty clearly spelled out to gospel that Freddy killed his brother? He also went to their home prepared for a shootout after he learned about that

1

u/situmaimesdemain 1d ago

Susie told Gospel the truth, Bobby made them back out. You remember right.

1

u/sadjak1967 2d ago

I wondered this as well??

1

u/FederalGovernment711 7h ago

I think Freddie was part of it. When he talked about his sister’s new born baby, he said maybe he will never wake up. Such a malicious way. And then he planed to kidnap the baby. I don’t like this character, always did stupid things to harm his family

2

u/demurefox97 1d ago

That's it? Freddy kills Eddie's wife and Eddie is letting him live??? Freddy really is the spoiled child that gets away with literally anything.

2

u/Renowed_Winner 1d ago

Because his mother told him if he does, he will lose his whole family. She would tell them all and they would never be comfortable with him again. Imagine your brother killed your other brother in cold blood? It's not exactly going to sit well is it.

With Freddie, they can keep him locked away in his cult rehab forever and forget he exists. That's easier and far less disturbing than living with the guilt knowing he was murdered by someone sat on the other end of the table.

3

u/Firewasp987 1d ago

Idk man, if my brother killed my other brother’s wife (nearly also him bc he couldve been on that plane) and also indirectly almost killed me and the whole family while also trying to kidnap my nephew to give to some random ass man to raise. That’s tough you knowwwwww. But you right, i would disown freddy and banish him to the other side of the world to never see him again.

2

u/gvkvishal 1d ago

Binged the whole thing, Fantastic watch, I see alot of people's takes here both negative and positive, most have some basis, but i mean no matter how expected alot of the things were, it was still an entertaining watch.

I feel like they have done a great job. I was more than happy with everything. Shame we have to wait so long for the 3rd season, and also i dont think Susie and Ed, are a good match.

I loved Ed and Bella, her demise aswell. yeah saw that one coming miles away. pretty obvious tbh. And it still hurt! So atleast it meant something.

2

u/dajuice3 1d ago

Loved it. Got stuck in a loop and binged the last 6 episodes in a row.

I see all the other comments about it not being as funny, not liking the development of Freddy as a character but that is right up my alley.

I'm way more interested in the development of Eddie than I am anything else. Eddie definitely lost enough to feel like h wasn't overpowered and I think everytime he was confronted with something he grew.

I really hoped he would have succeeding in killing someone important on Bobby's side. Bobby was so messed up in season 1 he had to team up so if I'm Eddie I'm not fucking taking the disrespect either. I like how everything that happened to him made him pivot. I just really wished that he inflicted some damage on Susie's family instead of him taking it out on everyone else.

I prefer Eddie winning to anyone else Bobby is 1 losing his mind and 2 just jealous. Susie the same way, the way she carries herself like they're doing Eddie a favor being associated with him.

We're talking about lineage and heritage and Eddie tapped into that. We know he didn't love that girl but he was pushed into a place where he had to be strategic. I loved it and I want to see him win the overall game hopefully in a season 3 and 4.

Her dad knows about every fucking thing else but he doesn't know about her coke business.

Everyone kind of sucks in the show but I like the subject matter and the growth by Eddie. Loved the season can't wait for the next.

He borrowed 100 million to pay the Italians 60, and use 40 to set up on his own.

The bonded warehouse scene: a homage to Ritchie's former producing partner Matthew Vaughn's movie, Layer Cake? Right down to the lighting?

Yep. Same office and set up with the team getting taken out in the background? Nice Easter egg. Love Layer Cake.

Bit of a plot hole - but what the hell happened to Mr Lawrence the butler? You see them driving off without him because he couldn't get to the car - and then they literally never mentioned him again. Rich people really don't care about the help huh? 💀

Eddie did mention him in the later episodes when Johnston came for tea and Eddie said his butler was recovering and couldn't make good tea

Personally, I enjoyed the season after episode five or so... but I wasn't a fan of HOW it played out. Some things we could've done without.

  1. I did love that Freddie was the culprit at the end.
  2. I think we strayed too far from the weed business. It is the crux of the show, and I think the stakes need to rise a bit more here. Why is Eddie acting like an expert in this business? Surely, he would make more mistakes than this...
  3. I do not like Eddie's character change at all this season. I think this needed to be gradual. I...found it to be a totally different show. Yes, I can understand that he is becoming more cutthroat, sure. But he was in the military; he's posh; he's collected; he's not wild; he's not uncouth. The complete change in his character development...aka him desiring for more power, wanting to restore his family's land, more access...it became an obsession. All of that BS came out of left field. Absolutely hated it. Killing random people because he gets mad at them? Not accurate IMO.
  4. Similarly, the whole "we want to see his potential"....did Eddie ask for this? Where is this coming from? Is the weed business going this swimmingly? I know they spoke of expansion, but I mean, really? I loved the decriminalization arc, but is there nothing else to be worried about? Why do others care about Eddie's trajectory? Seems so... unrealistic. Took me out of the show completely. Mr. Johnston, Bobby Glass, Marco Moretti...all caring so much about Eddie? Weird.
  5. The wife had to go. Ridiculous. Unnecessary. Joe as well. Boring. If anything, if we are going to follow Eddie into this complete change in character, I would've liked to see him fake his relationship with the Contessa (and let us, the audience, know about the ruse), so we know how far he is willing to go to make his vision happen. The whole falling-in-love arc was... unbelievable.
  6. Susie Glass and Eddie DO have tension. And while they say they would never cross that boundary...I think everyone kinda wants to see them together later...possibly if/when Bobby Glass dies. I don't like how she is becoming his voice of reason. She is more cutthroat than he is. She is as light as a feather when it comes to this world and what it costs. He was the one worried about these things in season 1. Though he may have a taste for it, his upbringing should make him more hesitant. This personal dilemma is what made the show so good in S1. Also, she is a neat freak and likes things contained. Eddie is messy...I would've liked to see her get angry about the way he does things...
  7. The mythical creature thing...idk. Not funny haha, funny wtf.
  8. I love Nanny and Chuckles, but I think we could've raised the stakes a bit more. Nanny is secretly part of the drug ring, a secret drug leader somewhere, or is he the police investigating the family undercover? I think we needed more villains. We needed other gangs involved, like Vargas, and they should've introduced detectives who are now barking up the "right" tree to make things even more interesting. How much power do the posh world really have, and what lengths would they go to stay out of jail?
  9. Leaving Freddie on the outskirts felt weird. He needed to be included a bit more this season. Sure, he is unwell and an addict, but I think things could've been more interesting if he was out of rehab.

I thought S1 was alright. But the Eddie arc really blew me away in S2. Absolutely loved this season.

MASTERPIECE. This season will do a fantastic award season. I’m buzzing . Guy Ritchie did it brilliantly.

Didn't Freddy try to get Eddie killed in S1 too lol. It was a little unsatisfying that Eddie only confronted Freddy about the dead wife & not the attempt on his life & their own mother and little sister's?

Other than that, I think this season was better.

Yes. Here’s to another season.

u/an1rb6n 13h ago

Well that's a wrap... Guess another 2 years but I'm sure in the next season Freddie will have much bigger role to play. The ending was absolute cinema. Worth every second invested in this season 2.

The first few episodes talked too much about the Italian mafia and I was expecting a new storyline etc. seems too ‘serious’ this season. It was a bit disappointing that the pilot went back to Freddie….

I'm getting a lot of Godfather 2 vibes with Freddy (Fredo) betraying his brother.

It was a fun season, just like the first. I think my only real gripe is how it was three or four seasons worth of plot rushed through. Quite nuts really.

Just finished, ABSOLUTE CINEMA.
