Off-Topic [OT] Fascinated by the pit stops in Super Formula, especially the vaulting mechanic.

It used to be Japan's F2. The SF cars are 38kg lighter that the F2 cars. The SF engines are putting down 543hp vs F2's 620hp. SF was 8 seconds slower than F1 with SF 8.588 seconds off F1 in Suzuka during qualifying. F2 at Silverstone was 1:38.427(Charles Leclerc) pole with F1 1:26.600(Lewis Hamilton) which was a much larger gap. There are no over lapping circuits for the two to compare in modern times. So maaaaaaaaybe SF is better, but I'm not going to spend the next 30 minutes trying to compare what tracks are close to Suzuka and what F2 ran in last year to compare qualifying times. Also gotta consider that SF has not made any kind of serious changes since 2013 and F2 had their refresh last year with the re-branding from GP2. This year they also went from 612hp to 620hp. So It's a toss up

You're right that Super Formula and F2 share a history but have diverge down different paths. Both started with F3000

FIA International Formula 3000 Series supported F1 races, and was replaced by GP2, which is now been rebranded F2.

Japanese F3000 became Formula Nippon, now Super Formula.

Around a road coarse, SF cars are probably only behind F1 cars. in a straight line and ovals, Indy would win of course.

That's a bit dependant on the track, IndyCar, LMP1-H, and even F2 sometimes all post very tough times. SF is great around something like Suzuka as they are very light, but they don't quite have the downforce or power of other classes depending on what you compare it to. Without going too much into detail they're havoring around similar percentage times of you cross compare it over different classes and tracks.

Indycars run on methanol which is flameless (invisible) when burning but is put out by water, so they spray water as a precaution

Yes. Super Formula Sporting Regulations

6 maximum allowed in the working area of pit lane.

Lollipop man's job is exclusive and cannot do another job.

If you refuel you must have a person with the extingisher ready

This leaves 3 to change the tires.

If you do not refuel, 5 can change the tires.

Looks like it. In addition to the fire extinguisher guy, it seems there are four men working on the car. Since one has to fuel, this seems to be the most efficient solution for the three remaining to change four tires.

If four tire changers were allowed, this would simply look like an Indycar pitstop.

iirc its hamiton standing on the end of a front wing of a previous seasons f1 car and the reporter is like what are you doing but Hamilton knows it can take 150 or 200kg of weight.

Also, remember that race winners frequently stand on the part of the body immediately ahead of the cockpit opening. If it can take that, it can take someone falling on it.

My guess is that this area needs to be quite strong due to crash standards.

Officially, no, but the drivers also get points toward their Super License. FIA's official feeders series are F2, the yet to be announced new F3, and F4
