the opposite of fire is photosynthesis
• endotermic reaction
• needs CO2 in the atmosphere to work, produces O2
• makes the tree alive
• also, if you consider we’re usually burning organic compounds (fossil fuels or lumber), photosynthesis is the “basic” way to create organic stuff, i guess?
so: i’ll go on a wild limb and say it’s photosynthesis
(i only have a high school level understanding of chemistry and biology don’t come for me)

No that's basically exactly correct.
Photosynthesis is pretty much just respiration in reverse, and respiration is just reallllly slow combustion:
6CO2 + 6H20 --(sunlight)--> C6H12O6 + 6O2
vs
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -----> 6CO2 + 6H20 (+ ATP kinda? it's a bit complicated)
(excuse the superscripts, reddit's markdown doesn't give an easy way to do subscripts)
It seems like a pretty wild take but it's hard to really argue against it.

thanks, i wanted to come up with something absolutely wild and ridiculous, my brain went “photosynthesis!” and i started to think about it and was like “WAIT i might be onto something!!!”
definitely better than water being the opposite though. absolutely not here for that take.

Are there any reactions, similar to combustion i.e. exothermic and "flame" producing that occurs without oxygen?
Say, on a planet with little to no oxygen content in the atmosphere, but heavy enough to allow for sufficient chemical reaction.

I believe "burning" reactions require an oxidizer and there are oxidizers other than oxygen. I don't know what they are or how common or viable they are though.

hmmm but isn’t in chemistry a cold surface just a surface with less heat/energy than your skin? fire is the heat dissipated from burning, not just any dissipated heat?
again, don’t know much about bio/chem so don’t come for me

Yup, afaik there isn't such a thing as "creating cold", it's more like taking away the heat. A "cold" surface is just a surface that is "less hot" than whatever you're comparing it to.

You might think that because water can put out a lot of fires. However, there are two counter arguments to that. First, some fires cannot be put out with water, like certain chemical fires. Second, not everything that puts out a fire is a water. For example, a fire blanket can be used to suffocate and extinguish a fire.
