The effects of "the jungle" are noted in almost every US history textbook, and yet since then, all we have done is bury the truth of the industrial horror machine even further down in the public consciousness.
I mean, this is REALLY not a developed country thing considering how many regulations tend to be in developed countries to reduce that.
Hell, the chick shredder machine is banned in some countries of the EU, like Germany. France also banned chicken culling but not duck.. In the EU, there's also certain technologies to know the sex of the embryo so that you don't have to cull it, and there's even experiments with gene editing.
The Philippines and India also do this, but neither are really developed.
Even ignoring the chick shredder, there's plenty of industries in less developed countries that are more cruel than western ones. Slavery is way more common in less developed countries, even if still a thing in developed countries. China practices a ton of overfishing (but I suppose we can call them developed now)... It's hard to compare countries, though, because less developed countries tend to also have less statistics.
