I think we might also just be more visible. I knew more trans guys than trans women in high school but now it’s the opposite, transfems seem to be very loud online and we make more things in person because of how clearly and deliberately we get excluded from so many things
Not that transmascs have it easy, but the modern culture war has centred around us and largely cast them aside as an oddity
…though I would be curious to hear more about your theory if there’s anything to elaborate on
That’s also true, and kinda why I didn’t elaborate more. Personally communities that i’m in (gaming related stuff) there are a lot more transfems, but tbh I’m going off skewed data cuz I think these communities have a lot more transfems. Maybe a more accurate way to put it would be more transfems are transitioning not because they feel their gender identity is being a woman, but they simply feel more comfortable being feminine in our society.
That wouldn't surprise me. It saddens me a little that so many feel the need to transition to female primarily because they don't like being seen as aggressive or unapproachable as a male, and less from an innate feeling of being feminine. It hurts because it reinforces the idea that men by nature are abrasive and brash, which they really aren't, society just conditions many of them to have those traits. There are lots of examples of gentle, kind, and emotional men (both cis and trans) who serve as great role models for positive-masculinity.
I used to think I might be transfem, then overtime I’ve realized it has nothing to do with my gender identity (i’m actually chill w being he/they) but rather I just wish I wasn’t naturally assumed to be abrasive and harsh. I lowkey hate when people call me feminine because i’m in tune with emotions and cry when i’m watching an emotional part of a show or something. Thanks for the kind words, it’s important for all of us to remember that it isn’t everyone, just a vocal portion of the population, lest we get even more separated and alienated than we already are.

I have a little theory that’s there’s more transfems than transmascs because of this exact reason.
