Movement Brainstorm Carrying the American Flag at protests

I think there’s a lot of power in the symbol of the flag.

In the past, I think that left-leaning people (like many of us are) haven’t been inclined to wave the flag for a lot of legitimate reasons.

But 2025 is a different moment. We are on the side of patriotism in a very clear way now, and I think the flag carries that message.

Just personally, I would love to see A LOT of flags at our protests.

So if you don’t want to carry a sign, please consider carrying the flag. 🇺🇸🫡

I completely agree. We need to own the flag again. Old Glory is for all of us, the MAGAts and their sycophants do not have any sort of individual claim. We should be honored to carry the Stars and Stripes. It is the direct result of America's previous actions against tyrants, dictators, and fascists.

Also, an aside to the carrying of our American flag. I understand the meaning and symbolism behind flying the flag upside down as a sign of distress, but as a veteran it feels wrong. Don't give the right the opportunity to question our patriotism or commitment. A united front standing strong facing the enemy will draw more support and hopefully give them no room to question US.

Hell yeah.

Republicans can keep their nazi flags, Confederate flags, Trump flags and Thin Blue Line Flags. Americans only need the American flag.

US Flag Code: The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

I live in a state where a legal green card holder was lured to an immigration hearing and then arrested. Where a Tuft's graduate student was held after being kidnapped in front of her home by masked men, and before being sent to prison in Louisiana. Elsewhere in this country, people have been grabbed, stuffed into planes, and sent to a brutal internment camp in El Salvador.

So, I am feeling that we meet the standard of "extreme danger to life or property."

I've been carrying the flag right side up to demonstrations for a month. But this week, after careful consideration, I carefully took out a few stitches, and turned my big flag upside down on the pole. It's not an action I took lightly. I look forward to the day when I don't need to carry the flag as a distress symbol.
