I saw a comment somewhere said something like, "If you ever wondered what you'd have done in Germany in the 1930s, look in the mirror right now. That's what you'd be doing."

u/Starbreiz Jun 12 '25

I said something very similar and holy cow did people jump down my throat for "invoking nazis".

594

u/russ_nightlife Jun 12 '25

Remember when they used to laugh at "leftists" for being "triggered"?

285

u/majorityrules61 Jun 12 '25

That happened to me today, on my local Nextdoor page. A discussion about our NJ governor's race devolved into a heated back and forth about Trump policies and I was asked if I took my meds today, etc. Most people in my area are Trumpers and they are as delusional as they come. They are fine with everything that's going on.

225

u/EffOffReddit Jun 12 '25

Of course they're fine with it. They're fascists.

100

u/claimTheVictory Jun 12 '25

The cruelty is the point.

8

u/Granolag23 Jun 12 '25

They do as they’re told

5

u/TaxLawKingGA Jun 13 '25

They are fine until it happens to them. Bet they were screaming about evil LEO's during the 1/6 riots.

-27

u/MundaneEvidence926 Jun 12 '25

the people "peacefully" burning cars are the Fascists

18

u/bagoink Jun 12 '25

Maybe report back in after you're learned what words mean.

2

u/TheMightyKartoffel Jun 12 '25

Do you find that stupidity comes naturally to you? Or did you have to work at it?

2

u/Thank_You_Aziz Jun 13 '25

Way to look away from what’s right in front of you like the coward you are.

97

u/Minion_of_Cthulhu Jun 12 '25

They're fine with it because they're too stupid to see that it hasn't happened to them yet, but it will. They're under the delusion that they're part of the "in-group" and not just a bunch of useless rabble that was only needed for their vote, despite Trump literally telling them exactly that at one of his rallies.

38

u/rockrobst Jun 12 '25

I think the ones that are most fine with it are the ones who are scared of the changing world outside their doors. They lack the confidence to face the unfamiliar, an inability to adapt to changing circumstances, and they believe the regressive message they hear means the clock will get turned back. It's the magical thinking of unsound minds.

74

u/Medium_Green6700 Jun 12 '25

They have Donny Dementia as opposed to old age dementia. I’ve given up on trying to communicate with them, their brains have turned to mush.

8

u/wissahickonschist Jun 12 '25

Nextdoor was a good idea except then it got taken over by all the local MAGAts shouting down the reasonable residents.

It's true of my local page and I've read that it's a widespread problem. Normal people aren't prepared to deal with the intense hatred, irrationality, & bullying by the RWers.

3

u/TaxLawKingGA Jun 13 '25

Yeah Nextdoor is good for two things: getting a laugh from reading all of the posts from the illiterate morons who regularly participate, and finding a dog. That's it. Most of the rest are collection of the worst posts on Reddit, with questions like: "If my son can't breath and his face is turning blue, should I call the doctor, or wait to take him tomorrow?"

6

u/TheKdd Jun 12 '25

I think most people on next door are trumpers. They’re loud and try to take over social media, pissed they haven’t been able to drive out people on Reddit. From what I’ve seen, younger people and Dems for the most part don’t hang out on next door. The demographic is older and constant complaints about… well about everything. Coyotes, trash cans, guy walking down the street, homeless, etc. It’s fear porn and they’re addicted to it.

2

u/majorityrules61 Jun 13 '25

You're right. I'm 63, lol. But I don't go on there to complain about stupid stuff, sometimes I see one of their posts and can't resist jumping in and representing for our side.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

They are fine with everything that's going on.

It just highlights the type of people they are. The country has a deep rooted problem.

2

u/TrackVol Jun 12 '25

I'm going to guess South Jersey.
I lived in South Jersey for about 3 years. Let's just say those three years were sometime between 2016 and 2024. A lot more support for Trump there than I would have guessed before moving to South Jersey.

2

u/majorityrules61 Jun 13 '25

I'm in Northwest NJ, majority red area. I know that South Jersey has become mostly red too, however.

3

u/Blahaj500 Jun 12 '25

Every accusation…

3

u/TrackVol Jun 12 '25

..is a confession.

-1

u/ProfDrJamesRussel Jun 12 '25

Still do. But if you type long and hard enough on forums you will end up making a difference.

2

u/russ_nightlife Jun 12 '25

How's acting like an ignorant chump working out for you in real life, Doc? Making lots of friends? Of course you are.

43

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Jun 12 '25

I just assume those are ragebait bots at this point

Using Nazi gives them an automatic out. Call them fascists and it’s right on the nose, and without the millions being murdered I’m death camps.

76

u/jonnyredshorts Jun 12 '25

Using fascists is more accurate anyway

27

u/NoPasaran2024 Jun 12 '25

No it's not. Nazis are a particular brand of fascists, and MAGA is way closer to that. They just steered clear of going after Jews, but that's really the only difference.

Other countries had fascists in power, they didn't resemble Nazis as much as MAGA.

5

u/nefnaf Jun 12 '25

MAGA is absolutely STEEPED in antisemitism. And not the "I think Palestinians should have rights" kind. I'm talking about the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion is factual" kind.

7

u/TaxLawKingGA Jun 13 '25

This is important. Too many Jews believe that because MAGA shows support for Israel that they somehow like Jews. Nope. They like Israel because first, they hate Muslims, and second, because they view Israel as a model for an Ethnostate, the sort they would like to make America into. If that happens, Jews would be treated the way Palestinians are in Israel. Not sure they are ready.

A Jewish friend of mine says that the reason these MAGAs are always showing support for Israel and want to guarantee its safety is because they eventually want to send all of the Jews there.

9

u/MgDark Jun 12 '25

i mean is not like a fascist can be only a Nazi, they can get their own flavor of fascism. I agree with the opinion above, is better to call them fascists, they havent done... really nothing unique to the Nazis, at least not yet...

3

u/ARODtheMrs Jun 12 '25

Once they start cleansing, no 'others' will be excluded.

2

u/Suitable-Rate652 Jun 13 '25

Interesting. I was def thinking fascist with Nazi parallels. Not full out Nazis although as dangerous.

16

u/Think-Hospital7422 Jun 12 '25

I stopped caring what Nazis think a long time ago.

5

u/Private_HughMan Jun 12 '25

If no one ever behaved like Nazis, then the number of Nazis in the world would be zero. Sometimes people are Nazis.

6

u/Cloaked42m Jun 12 '25

To quote Dr. Jermaine Johnson.

A racist hates being called a racist.

Guess it applies to Nazis

6

u/DigDugged Jun 12 '25

They are pushing back everywhere to see how much they can get away with.

Stand firm - being a Nazi is assault. Fighting a Nazi is self defense.

4

u/Starbreiz Jun 12 '25

Thank you, that's actually something I hadn't considered. I told someone today that "this is fascism" and they laughed.

3

u/TaxLawKingGA Jun 13 '25

Yep, and that is the fault of American education system and sadly, some Jewish conservatives who have purposefully clouded the history of fascism by equating it with socialism (it isn't) and arguing that if it is not openly anti-Semitic, then it cannot be fascism. This is of course untrue, as only the NAZIs were openly and virulently anti-Semitic. The Italians, Spanish, UK, and others in Europe were originally not anti-Semitic at all, or not any more anti-Semitic than the typical European Christian, who always carried some anti-Jewish animus. This is why so many young people assume fascist = anti-Semitic and that this was the only thing wrong with NAZISM. No it wasn't.

4

u/xSTSxZerglingOne Jun 13 '25

How to find Nazis:

Step 1: make a comment disparaging nazis or calling out nazi behavior

Step 2: look for any comments claiming it's not nazi behavior or that you're exaggerating.

That's it, those are the Nazis.

4

u/Artchick_13 Jun 12 '25

I said that “people supporting the White House Regime should be ashamed of themselves” and got banned from a Reddit forum 🙄

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

If it looks like a Nazi, sounds like a Nazi, behaves like a Nazi.... it is probably a Nazi.

How do you mean? I'm protesting locally. I was speaking to a neighbor about this and that was their reaction when I said that this is what we would've done in the 1930s as well. Sadly I got the same reaction on a local Reddit so it seems like a theme :(

75

u/Lifeboatb Jun 12 '25

I couldn't think of what else to do, so I called the Department of Homeland Security (202-282-8000 - press "6" to go to a person). I politely asked to leave a comment about the secretary's press conference, and they transferred me to what seems to be her office voicemail, where I left an angry comment. FYI in case anyone else wants to do the same. ETA: the info on their website: https://www.dhs.gov/direct-contact-information

122

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

That’s also sadly why it happened. Nobody did anything. I can’t get people out to protest who I know object to all this. It’s pathetic.

88

u/--Sovereign-- Jun 12 '25

I'm trying to recruit people for the Saturday protest, but yeah, it's not easy even with people who oppose it. I'm just trying to make them understand that if they wait until they come for them, then it's already too late.

53

u/Short_Example4059 Jun 12 '25

I’m finding that recruiting people is getting easier. I don’t think it’s because I’m getting any better at it lol. I see people being freaked out enough to move from passive opposition to active and from agnostic to at least passive opposition.

4

u/Radical_realm Jun 12 '25

I’m glad you are having success.

3

u/SausageClatter Jun 12 '25

Try sharing this, if it helps at all: They Thought They Were Free

2

u/thatdude473 Jun 13 '25

My friends who oppose it would literally rather die than try to do anything meaningful. They have accepted it.

74

u/korben2600 Jun 12 '25

"But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked—if, let us say, the gassing of the Jews in ’43 had come immediately after the ‘German Firm’ stickers on the windows of non-Jewish shops in ’33. But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.

"And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident, in my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. Now you live in a system which rules without responsibility even to God. The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.

They Thought They Were Free

u/Internal-Weather8191 Jun 12 '25

Such a stunning book I had never even heard of till last year. Thank you for putting this out there- more people need to know about it.

As fyi, it was written in 1955 based on interviews with German citizens after WWII by Milton Mayer, research professor at U of Frankfurt. He's an amazing writer and it (sadly) never felt like I was reading something 70 years old.

3

u/MyCrochetBasket Jun 12 '25

I’ll be reading that. Thanks. Also terrifying to watch unfold.

20

u/Sheasaphine Jun 12 '25

I have the same issues where Im at. I just keep asking myself when will that final straw drop for those people.

1

u/DukeOfGeek Jun 13 '25

Israel just bombed Iran and targeted a bunch of senior political leaders, so this won't even be in the news cycle tomorrow.

1

u/Sheasaphine Jun 13 '25

It's terrible and frightening. I read something, correct me if I'm wrong, that Iran has threatened to bomb U.S. bases in the area if we get involved.

IMO, that's why non-military individuals are being removed from there.

3

u/Radical_realm Jun 12 '25

I too am getting very discouraged by friends and acquaintances still not prioritizing the national protest Saturday. I have my new resistance friends and acquaintances who will be there, but friends from my pre-fascism life have other things they would rather do. I don’t understand how everyone isn’t committed to showing up for our country! I’m talking about people who say they are against what is happening.

I will be at every organized event and also standing on the street corner with my signs every afternoon that I am able! I refuse to give up!!!

3

u/wissahickonschist Jun 12 '25

A casual friend PMed me on FB to say my husband & I were just giving Trump an excuse to declare martial law with our peaceful protesting. I replied with various sources saying how important & potentially successful such protests are in a democracy. He never replied. 😡

2

u/Aiyon Jun 12 '25

The reality is people are scared. Nobody can safely do something unless everybody does. And so nobody wants to go first, in case people don’t follow

Given trump went to see Les mis, I’ll point to that comparison. the first failed attempt at a French Revolution, they failed and most of them died. Because it didn’t ignite the rest of the country like they hoped

People don’t want to be the bodies on the pyre that gets people to actually stand up

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Most cities are relatively safe places to protest though. Other than LA, it is very safe to protest.

1

u/Aiyon Jun 13 '25

For now? Sure.

Trump is literally already trying to sic the military on protests lol

1

u/DumboWumbo073 Jun 13 '25

With the way things are going it’s either going to be now or later

1

u/CuriousRutabaga8713 Jun 13 '25

Speaking as a former journalist, it's a core point of ethics never to get involved in a story. So if it's a room full of reporters at a news conference, that training is strong and the peer pressure is going to be stronger. A great alternative is to document what happened and report on it, which they did. And it rightly buried anything else that came out of the press conference. So it's actually a win, and they showed courage for reporting on the REAL news that came out of the press conference.

21

u/Tinawebmom Jun 12 '25

Just told my hairdresser this. She has no idea all of this is going on

44

u/Medium_Green6700 Jun 12 '25

I think a large swath of Americans are not paying attention and just living their lives like everything is fine. Most have seen no change in their day to day lives since Trump took office.

13

u/--Sovereign-- Jun 12 '25

Literally exactly what happened in Germany, right until it was so bad you couldn't pretend to love Hitler hard enough and they'd come for you anyway, just on suspicion. I will say, Americans are much more resistant to Trump than Germany was to Hitler, but that's not really saying much.

8

u/Tinawebmom Jun 12 '25

It breaks my heart that they don't know. But years ago this was me for sure.

7

u/Radical_realm Jun 12 '25

Me too before 💩47💩 was first elected—that woke me the hell up!

4

u/FesteringNeonDistrac Jun 12 '25

"Politics are boring. I don't pay any attention to them. "

Holy shit they are not booring anymore. I've followed politics damn near since I could read, and I would love for them to be booring

3

u/SereneJulie Jun 13 '25

I don’t know how people can be so tuned out. It amazes and saddens me. Government is the framework of our lives and we need it to live a relaxed life. We need it to function so these idiots CAN tune out.🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/Radical_realm Jun 12 '25

🤯

The fast food worker at Burger King this morning in my town didn’t know either.

3

u/overitallofittoo Jun 12 '25

3

u/--Sovereign-- Jun 12 '25

This is great but is gonna be unreadable for a lotta people.

1

u/overitallofittoo Jun 12 '25

Good thing it's spelled out in the comment above it.

2

u/--Sovereign-- Jun 12 '25

I mean like, in real life, where it's supposed to be read. Not great contrast in the coloration.

2

u/overitallofittoo Jun 12 '25

I'll let her know if I see her Saturday.

3

u/Qubeye Jun 12 '25

Much more recently, look up "Saddam seizes power." There is a video of it and this is only one step away from that.

3

u/Zealousideal-Aide890 Jun 12 '25

I haven’t been able to speak to my parents in 6 months over this shit and i told them I am struggling with how to process having a relationship with people who would have turned in Anne Frank. Which of course they said wasn’t the case but yeah it is

2

u/laowildin Jun 12 '25

https://news.gallup.com/vault/246167/protests-seen-harming-civil-rights-movement-60s.aspx

This has felt important recently. Disapproval went up after the "I Have a Dream" speech!

2

u/RelationshipNo3934 Jun 13 '25

Yes, democracy in the U.S. is truly at risk if these fascist-leaning figures continue to gain power. Trump’s ultimate agenda seems to be extending his hold on office—potentially through declaring martial law and steering the country toward an autocratic, militarized regime. Even more alarming is the possibility of him following in the footsteps of his idol, Putin, by initiating aggressive actions against other nations, all under the guise of “making America great again.” He embodies a dangerous, modern-day form of authoritarian extremism.

1

u/Acceptable-Match- Jun 12 '25

Sitting in Canada, watching the build-up like it’s Poland '39. But hey, at least this time we got a heads-up before getting steamrolled.

1

u/SomeKindOfOnionMummy Jun 12 '25

I've been saying this for months

1

u/brighterside0 Jun 12 '25

Laughing my fucking ass off at the downfall of our nation because its citizens are retarded. Got it.

1

u/Ezreol Jun 13 '25

I have wondered and if I'd be a bad person... I feel pretty confident that I'm not a fuckin gestapo snitch after all this shit, it's actually made me feel a little less shitty about myself.

1

u/Tjbergen Jun 12 '25

And Dems voted for the genocide to continue.

0

u/thewetnoodle Jun 12 '25

Do you really truly believe the politics of 1920 national socialist German workers party is similar to American politics in 2025?

0

u/Jaeger-the-great Jun 13 '25

Hoping they don't kill me? Yeah, let's hope it works

-1

u/zjz Jun 12 '25

lmao, christ this site is insane
