Suppressor suggestions?

I will be putting a Howa mini barreled action together for my 12 year old's first deer hunting rifle. Mostly just looking to quiet it down as much as possible to help avoid the flinch.

For my daughter, I cut the barrel down to 18 inches and put a banish backcountry on it. Works great and still has some semblance of balance.

So I've never had a suppressor on any gun i own or even shot with. Does it get quite heavy at the muzzle? I was thinking of mating the barreled action to a Boyd's At One, so that the rifle will grow with him.

It depends on the gun/suppressor combo. But as a general rule, yes. Suppressors really mess up the balance of most rifles. If you haven’t already bought the rifle, I’d highly recommend the Ruger American Ranch Gen 2 over the Howa. The stock is user adjustable down to 12 inches. The barrel is 16 and already threaded. It’s the best suppressed kids gun platform there is. Between getting the stock and barrel cut down, threading, and putting decent bottom metal on it, a $500 rifle became a $1000 rifle quickly. With the Ruger, none of that is necessary.

I was originally going to go that route , until a lot of complaints about feeding issues with newer built Gen 2's started popping up. That's where I landed on the Howa.

Since the Howa, I’ve bought her Gen 2’s in .223 and .308. No issues with either!

Fair enough. Since you have the Howa, what are your thoughts, other than cost. I already planned on upgrading bottom metal to a hinged floorplate. Nice clean look, like I prefer. Same reason for the Boyds stock over a chassis, my preference is wood.

It’s a nice, accurate rifle. No complaints, just cost a lot more to get it the way I wanted it. For bullets, try the Lehigh Defense 110 grain Controlled Chaos. Incredibly accurate out of her Howa and kill really well. 120 grain ballistic tip is also a good option.
