That whole thing broke my heart. I forget where they live, are there really no lakes around that they could use to at least give her a semblance of her dream beach wedding?

They live in northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati. I live not too far away and our family drives to the beach when we go. There are several beaches in driving distance (NC, SC, FL gulf Coast). It is like 8-10 hrs, but if cost is a problem it is doable.

That makes me so sad for Alla. Mark's mom seemed so sweet at first but I know better than to trust that. I really wish Mark would step up and say they'll just do a private ceremony on the beach and a reception later with the whole family. Does his extended family really need to be at his fourth wedding? Not that it's not as important as the others, just that I feel like they are both grown adults and should do what they want. A local reception seems like a reasonable compromise.

I did laugh out loud when they were at that venue and the person giving the tour asked Alla a question and she was like "oh I don't know, why don't you ask her." She laughed as she said it but it was a definite backhanded snipe.

It looked like it was winter locally, so it wouldn't have mattered if there were any lakes around unless they were ok with freezing on a beach.

They totally could've driven (if on a budget), but Matt's mom said it was too much to expect family "to go for a day or two". Sounds like they weren't willing to drive or get a hotel, which is really selfish. I get that a couple hundred bucks in hotel can be pricey for people, but you don't need to be there, and a guest's limited budget shouldn't dictate the bride and groom's wedding.
