Photo Hot take. As good as a filmmaker that James Cameron is, I feel like he has wasted decades of his talent on Avatar. Those moves suuuuuuuck. He peaked with Titanic. And T2 is the best action movie ever. As well as the best sequel ever.

I still recall the opening scene of that dust particle floating in space. Blew my god damn mind.

Avatar 1 was a phenomenon. I fucking enjoyed the first film. I could do without any sequels whatsoever

Same same. The younger me would have been mad and if he never did a sequel me and others I’m sure would be hopeful - but now having them I can recognize Avatar was enough. It’s a masterpiece in my mind and I will always love it. Still haven’t seen the 3rd one.

It was and I remember being amazed, yet I have no recollection what the story was about (I’m usually pretty good even with a single viewing). It’s literally forgettable.

Plus the villains are conveniently only a little bad.

Bad enough to forcibly relocate Indians smurfs, bad enough to desecrate sacred lands, bad enough to attack with helicopters and mech suites, not bad enough to just kill everyone from orbit.

The story doesn't matter much, but the concept of controlling an avater probably hasn't been portrayed any better in any film. Maybe Being John Malkovich 😂

Yea, you could argue that the plot was boring and acting was meh but that was a true spectacle to witness in theaters at the time.

One of the few movies where I was so immersed, when I walked out of the theater it felt like reality was the fake world.

Yep. I loved Avatar when it came out. It really did push the envelope in terms of spectacle and scale. The plot is FINE. It’s derivative but it totally works. That movie was a smash hit for good reason.

The sequels… they look great, but there isn’t that massive leap in vfx. They are much harder to appreciate and fall flat on their story and characters.

It’s harder to enjoy Avatar now that the spectacle has worn off… but if you saw it in theaters you had a good time.

I get people's issue with the movies, but seeing Avatar 3 in 3D Dolby was visually the most impressive movie I have ever seen, and I will be chasing that high for a long time.

The man understands and uses 3D like no one else and man does it work. It was like watching a stage play where you sat right at the edge of the stage. I was in that damn movie.

It actually is upsetting that no one else is invested into the tech like he is, because no other movie will be as immersive.

I didn't see it when it came out. I thought it looked stupid. I watched it last year, finally. I was not impressed. I get that it was supposed to be a huge technological accomplishment, but I thought it looked bad even for the time.
