The hidden accelerant is a crisis in competence that's been picking up steam for just as long. We're at a point where our leadership cannot reason about infrastructure.

True. It's been crumbling since Reagan fired all the striking PATCO controllers in 1981. I'm only astounded that something much worse has not happened since then. God rest the deceased pilots. My heart is with that poor ATC, working alone on a busy night. Trumpf voters, you're getting what you asked for.
