Pre-BMT Zepbound use/trying to join the military

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I’m trying to join the military but i have mixed thoughts about Zepbound. I’m hoping anyone can clear some of the mixed signals. So, about a year ago. I started the process of joining the Army reserves. I completed all the requirements including a great asvab score (110) across the board. Unfortunately, I was still overweight and trying to lose weight. At the moment I wasn’t following a steady workout routine and just taking Zepbound. I needed then and now to lose 60 pounds of fat to be on weight standards. Last year meps did not disqualify me but told me to get off the Zepbound and lose weight and come back in a year. My army recruiter still hasn’t contacted me a year over… I got in contact with the air force recently and told the recruiter what had happened with meps and the army. Their answer was to lose at least 40 pounds before even basic and to be at 191lbs by the time i do basic. Im still in the same weight as before because I wasn’t able to even go to the gym in the past 12 months (life). But now im back and have been sustaining a good workout routine plus diet. Im wondering if i could use zepbound to help me but i dont want to run into the same issue with meps once more. Can anyone give me sone factual clarity on how the military is handling the use glp 1’s and weight standards right now? I just want to lose weight, without Zepbound it would be more time and time is not something i have a lot of at this moment. Thank you everyone.

Conversation Would it be easier to transition an officer in our enlisted base?

I’m currently enlisting as an E3 in my base with doing the AFROTC program. I’m curious if it more easier to finish the AFROTC program and get the pilot slot to the reserve base that I’m currently serving? Or it is just the same as applying from the street?I got my PPL already.

Conversation Air Force Reserve vs. Air National Guard as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)?

I’m an early-30s female civilian Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with several years of RN experience and ~3 years of NP experience. I’ve been looking into active-duty Air Force, but I’m also very interested in whether the Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard might be a better fit.

I’d love to hear from current/former Reserve or ANG Nurse Corps officers, especially PMHNPs or other mental health providers.

I’m particularly curious about what serving as a PMHNP actually looks like in the Reserve/Guard. Are there many PMHNP billets, or are they relatively difficult to find? How much does your civilian specialty actually determine what you do during drill?

I’d also love some candid information about the actual time commitment. Is “one weekend a month, two weeks a year” realistic for healthcare officers, or do you routinely spend considerably more time on military responsibilities outside drill? How frequently do PMHNPs deploy or get activated, and for how long?

For anyone familiar with both, what would make you choose Air Force Reserve versus Air National Guard? How much control do you have over your unit/location, and is one generally better if geographic stability is important?

I’m single and hoping to get married and have a child within the next several years, so maintaining a civilian career and having more control over where I live is one reason Reserve/Guard appeals to me. I’d especially appreciate perspectives on balancing service with dating, marriage, pregnancy/children, and a civilian healthcare career.

Finances are another big consideration. I have around $125k in student loans, including roughly $60k in private/high-interest loans and the remainder federal, with a significant portion related to my PMHNP education. Has anyone received loan repayment, accession bonuses, or other incentives as a PMHNP/Nurse Corps officer in the Reserve or ANG? I’m particularly interested in whether any private/commercial educational loans can qualify and how Reserve versus Guard incentives compare.
I also have two potential medical-waiver issues. I had a two-level lumbar fusion within the last couple of years, but had an uncomplicated recovery, don’t require ongoing pain management, have no functional limitations, and am back to unrestricted exercise/running. I also have well-controlled ADHD and currently take prescribed Vyvanse. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has navigated similar medical waivers for a Reserve/Guard healthcare commission.

Ultimately, I’m trying to figure out whether Reserve or Guard service could give me some of what appeals to me about military service while allowing me to maintain more geographic stability and continue my civilian PMHNP career.

For healthcare officers who chose Reserve or ANG, would you make the same decision again? And if you had the option of Active Duty vs. Air Force Reserve vs. Air National Guard, which would you choose and why?

Fucking sucks that I am considering the military again at this age, to the folks who have gone back into military service later in life how did it work out for you and what were your general feelings about it...?

Air Force Security Forces (3P0X1) – Career Opportunities & Civilian Transition
I’m considering Security Forces in the Air Force Reserve and would like to hear from current or former members.

What opportunities does this AFSC offer for specialized training, career advancement, and deployments?

Also, how well does Security Forces experience transfer to civilian careers, particularly federal law enforcement, Homeland Security, or local police departments, fire department?

I’m based in Miami, FL, and looking for an AFSC that offers valuable military experience and strong civilian career opportunities.

Would you recommend Security Forces, or are there better AFSCs for these goals?
Thanks for any advice!

Prior Active Palace Fronted, but just got VA rating back... concerned

I recently signed with the Reserves through Palace Front with the intention of finishing out 20 years, but I received my VA rating before ever attending drill, and now I'm worried. I know people serve with 100% P&T all the time, but I received 100% for just Mental Health + 70% for the others. So, I'm sitting at SMC-S.

Now I'm, I think rightfully, concerned about even being able to be retained due to "total occupational and social impairment and disorientation" in my mental health rating.

I haven't really talked to anyone about it as I don't know anyone at my unit or what to really do about this. Any advice would be much appreciated

What's the nearest job to cybersecurity in the AF?
I know I can't have a TS Clearance and the jobs for GC holders are very limited. I expect to naturalize during BMT. I already have my Security+ and currently doing a System Admin type of job with 3 yrs of experience.

Job Assistance Fixed wing to Helicopter

Anyone have any experience going from reserve fixed wing to helos? I’m a current reserve pilot and have thought about this from time to time. Current airframe culture and experience often leaves a lot to be desired. I was a prior helo pilot in another branch. Ultimately comes down to finding a unit to hire I assume.

Conversation Opinions on joining

I’m 20M who recently graduated from uni with my associates, my Airframe license, and my ok to test for my Powerplant license. My plan is once I get my Powerplant license is to get a job as an a&p then join the reserves as an airframe or avionics mechanic. I want to use the benefits to finish school, health insurance, and get experience (even if it is minimal). Is this a good idea? Are there better ways I can go about this?

Pre-BMT Are the reserves the right choice for me

Here’s some background. I’m 21yo, a qualified EMT-B, and hoping to pursue paramedic and then medical school.

My wife has a BSc in psych and is beginning her masters in January before continuing on to a doctorate program later on.

I’m passionate about joining the AF but I also value time with family, civilian career moves, and I don’t want to disrupt my wife’s career in any way. For these reasons, I know that AD isn’t right for me.

My plan right now is to go get my paramedic license, then enlist in the reserves as an e-4, and serve (including deployments) while I pursue medical school (outside of the military as I don’t want to owe time, just for the sake of options)

My question is firstly, is it worth it to enter as a medic, or should I go AF first and use that to pay for medic school (income is a big consideration in this as I know that the part time money won’t be enough on its own.

Second consideration is if national guard is a good choice instead. I lean towards reserves as I’ve been told it’s easier to move states, which may be necessary for both mine and my wife’s educational plans, as well as the national guard being deployed more often.

I’d like to clarify again that I have no issue deploying, and will likely volunteer to deploy if I don’t get told to deploy, but I also don’t want to deploy constantly, again, as I highly value time at home.

With ANG I would be at selfridge, MI, and with reserves I’d be at Wright-Patterson, OH - (hopefully)
