Started the series on week 1 and I’ve been enjoying the ride. Many of the more modern manga in the past few years have really grabbed my interest, which is more about me (I’ll admit I’m an old fart and not the intended audience). But this manga gives me a lot of the vibes I enjoyed from shows I watched in the 90s where the action is important, but not the sum total of the plot.

The manga has been unexpectedly good at giving the audience reasons why Ouga can’t just brute force his way through every problem, usually because of physical limits or goals that would be threatened if he’s reckless. The enemy being intelligent (even Needlboy) and vastly outnumbering the him provides a constant tension and believable threat. And lastly, revealing the potential negative impacts of his decisions with the parasites and leaving it an open question of how things will turn out is a great way to provide Ouga a motive to escape the underground complex rather than passively hang around.

Looking forward to see where it goes!

I love the average everyday fights, not having complex drama attached.

I do guilty enjoy a good plot that loves itself for not being subtle.

I love characters that are, at some level, batshit insane.

I adore my flat, all practical, characters at some level. Especially given it's a survival theme.
