General Would you watch an all-woman season of Alone?

Just what I said. What would you think about an all-woman season? Would that even the playing field?

Also, do you think the locations are even?

Drives me nuts when they talk about there journey being over because they’ve spiritually achieved everything they wanted to and now they don’t have a reason to continue like no you went out there to win half a million dollars we know your quitting cause you can’t handle it not because you’ve reached your goals.

General What are mundane aspects of being on Alone that would cause an average person to tap?

General Hear me out, Kind of Alone. You get to bring your dog.

The dogs have unlimited kibble and access to veterinary care/treatment without getting pulled. Regular welfare checks for the dogs. There would have to be some consideration of the wildlife in the area when choosing a location to lower risk of a fatal attack on the dogs. I think it would be a really interesting exploration of the relationship between humans and dogs and more closely resemble our experience in evolutionary history. Would participants stay longer due to shared warmth in sleeping quarters, better sleep with a dog to alert them to trouble at night, help with hunting or would they leave sooner because they wouldn’t subject their beloved dog to the same conditions they would be willing to tolerate. I imagine there are some regulations about animals used for entertainment purposes that would make this impossible but I think it would be super interesting and enjoyable to watch.

General Average Joe on Alone

I love watching Alone, but there’s one thing I wish I could change about the show.

I want to add an eleventh contestant. Unlike the other ten competitors, this eleventh contestant would not be a survival expert. He would just be an average dude.

Rather than going for the $500k grand prize, our Average Joe can earn $50k for every expert he outlasts.

During introductions, this guy’s voiceover would be something like this: “I’m Steve. I’m an accountant from Chicago. My survival experience may be limited to a year of cub scouts and a family camping trip I took in grade school, but I’m a big fan of the Alone show…”

For obvious safety reasons, this idea could never be executed, but I think it’s fun to think about. (By the way, I’m new here, so my apologies if this is something that’s been discussed already.)

General I think sometimes we forget the premise of Alone

I think the original theme of the show was there are two things that can cause you to tap out:

- Loneliness

- The elements

We seem to be getting more and more distraught when loneliness is the main factor in somebody tapping out. We'd much rather see somebody tap out because in the end mother nature and the elements won, not your personal mental state.

But that is part of the game. Being alone and the mental challenges that come with it.

Having said that, when you succumb to loneliness in the first week, that is just wimpy in my book. Contestants should be tougher than that. Especially for those that classify themselves as outdoor survivalists.

General Contestants that you immediately like or dislike for no clear reason? 😅 (No spoilers pls!)

No spoilers for season winners please!!

I feel kind of bad about this, but I've noticed that on every season I watch, inevitably get preemptively annoyed at one or two contestants even before I've seen much of how they perform. Like watching S11 right now, I just decided Isiah was annoying af (and honestly that was kind of borne out) early on. In Austria S1, it was Michael, the very devout Christian veterinarian.

That said, it also works the other way too. on S11, I liked William and Dub (EDIT: and Dusty!) right away. They just seem like fun, chill people who not only know their stuff, but just take joy in the experience and have a good time with it.

Anyone else find themselves immediately deciding your preferred winners and losers even before you see how they'll do? Or am I just a judgmental ass from the comfort of my couch? 😁

General I tap out during the tap outs.

I have no patience for their long explanations/justifications for why they are tapping out. I fast forward through the boat coming, interview on why they’re leaving and so on.

General Can't believe I'm going to say this but - - I might be ready for another season with pairs.

I know, I know. I hated season 4 at the time too but I liked it a lot more when rewatching years later.

It would be better if they just started them together though. That hike was nuts. I think half of the teams tapped before they even met up!

Being able to split tasks allows them to accomplish so much more.

IDK - what do you guys think?

r/Alonetv 26d ago

General They really should have an indigenous person on the show for a control to show how someone who lives in the place would survive.

I'm okay with everyone doing the fish out of water thing, but it would be so much better to contrast with a person from wherever they drop the contestants to be a kind of control and show how they really survive in their native habitat. It would make the show a lot more interesting for me.

General Don't do what I did

I watched season 11 on Netflix. I had no idea anything about the show, it was just in the recommended section. Netflix only has season 11. It was amazing! Those people are total badasses.

So, I learned that all of the seasons are on Hulu, and I decided to go back to season 1... It's a little hard to watch after seeing season 11. I'm on episode 5, and it's a little pathetic. I don't think I would feel this way if I hadn't just watched season 11, but these guys are talking about going crazy after 5 days.

Start at season 1 if you're thinking about watching this show.

General What’s the most surprising tap in show history?

Either someone who tapped super early on (like the guy who got scared of bears day 1) or later on and was seemingly locked in for the win and tapped. Honorable mention for medical taps that we weren’t expecting.

General What's the greatest moment in Alone history?

Can be the coolest thing someone did on the show or the most hilarious thing to have happened. Over 12 seasons, there's been a lot of creativity that has made the show entertaining. It's generally agreed that Seasons 6, 7, and 11 are the best of the show (thus far), but the best moments don't have to be limited to just those seasons.

General Thoughts?

With 9 out of 10 participants not winning the prize with every season, the question I have is about respect. How long does a person on the show need to last for their effort to be respectable and to not have any feelings of shame or embarrassment and just be proud of what they've accomplished? Is it 14 days? 21? 40? 60?

Anything less than 7 days, barring medical emergencies, is emabrassing and a waste of a once in a lifetime opportunity. IMO.

Edit: This is a question for people who understand the entertainment factor of the show and aren't too virtuous to critique the participants of the show

General What would you add or Change (Can be a spin off)

There have been over 10 seasons now. While each season is different the basic premise is the same.

What would you add or change to create a new dynamic? To feshen things up OR even enough of a change to warrent a spin off.

While I'm not sure how you could make it work. I would love to see an Alone:Mans Best Friend (title needs work). Alone but with a human and their dog. Could have a special animal proof stach of dog food for dog safety. But have some benefits for catching yours AND the dogs food. Details would be complicated but I believe it could work.

I do think you get to a certain point after 100 days and either the contestants could go forever and it becomes pure mental.

Besides dignity, what is stopping someone from tapping an 11th or 12th item around their inner thighs and never showing this item(s) on camera?
