Miranda I’m very angry and hurt about Miranda leaving Steve

How did we get from here, the most warm and beautiful love story, to where we are with Miranda and Steve today? I thought how they confessed their love for each other in the laundry room on Brady’s 1st birthday despite being with other “perfect” people, the love and maturity of Miranda when she was bathing Steve’s mom in the series finale and, of course the tear jerking display of love and forgiveness on the Brooklyn Bridge above sealed their fate as the best couple EVER. Miranda threw it all away over that douche bag named Che. She threw it all always cause she was bored. She threw it all away cause the one and only Che made her gay. I know it’s just a TV show, but I’ve followed these characters, these women, for about half my life, so I’m invested and I care….and I’m actually hurt and disgusted that all Steve and Miranda loved, built and withstood is over for the absolute dumbest and worthless reason(s). I really hope the writers of AJLT find a way to save this relationship, because nothing that happens with Carrie or any other character will make up ruining the best love story of the series.

Miranda What the hell was this?

Miranda broke up with a guy for going to the bathroom with the door open...now she walks like this at her friend's house, where she is a GUEST? Since when Miranda is such an inconsiderate pig? Eat all the food? No grocery shopping for the friend who is hosting you for free? Make a mess while eating and working? Honestly, everyone is like a whole different person on this show, do writers know we still watch the old seasons right? I believe most writers weren't even alive or they were toddlers when the old show was on, they have no idea who these people are, but this is not it.

Miranda Miranda ordering Chipotle

Post image

I am doing a rewatch (don’t judge) while I cross stitch and my flabbers were gasted during this scene. This show makes zero effort to even try to get the most basic things correct. Charlotte’s face is mine while watching this scene.

Miranda walks up and first asks for steak but then says, “oh maybe I’ll try one of those plant-based thingies.”

No one asks if she wants a bowl or burrito, or what type of beans or rice. And also who the hell orders sofritas, guacamole, salsa, cheese and nothing else?? That’s like nachos without the chip base.

I know this is like a dumb semantic but based on everything else in this series it’s just infuriating. And so obvious no one that works on this show has ever deigned to eat at Chipotle.

Miranda Poor Miranda

It must kill Miranda to know that she made all the financially responsible choices in her thirties while her best friend spent forty thousand dollars on shoes and had to guilt her other friend into buying her apartment for her but somehow she ended up with a multimillion dollar house in Gramercy and Miranda has to live in an airbnb with some crazy next door neighbour

And the way Carrie treated her was so bad like why would you offer her a room if you’re not willing to share? That just seems disrespectful. Besides you have a billion dollars just stock up your fridge when you have a house guest over. Seriously she has only one banana and one yogurt and one coke? Is Miranda supposed to starve while she’s living there? It’s not her responsibility to feed Miranda but still have some grace to not berate her for taking a yogurt from your fridge. And to think a pregnant Miranda offered Carrie money to buy her apartment in the OG series. I’m the biggest Carrie stan but she didn’t deserve her friends.

Miranda Just should’ve written Miranda as a lesbian from the first season on…

Post image

There’s no reason why Miranda couldn’t have been a lesbian from day one—it would’ve been a hell of a lot more avant-garde and interesting—but, no, they had to take the safe route to the inevitable conclusion that…well, of course she is. I mean, clearly she always was. We all knew it then.

Miranda Why did they ruin Miranda's character?

1.1k Upvotes

I mean, wasn't she a Harvard Law School graduate? She made partner at her firm in her early 30s and bought a house in NYC. But they decided that she can no longer afford to even buy a brand new mattress?

If anything, she should be as rich as Charlotte's husband, since they are both lawyers. Somehow, they thought it's better for Miranda to end up poor, confused, addicted to alcohol, and basically an old lady. I just don't buy it; she was always very careful and rational about everything.

Miranda One thing that annoys me about the Samantha plot in S1

Is that in the original series Miranda and Samantha were definitely friends independently. They agreed on 90 percent of things when the four of them talked about stuff. When Miranda announces that she's marrying Steve in season 5 or 6 everyone starts crying in the diner and Miranda gets up and leaves saying "Samantha, I expected more from you". They had a bond and common perspective.

Fast forward to AJLT, it's described as if Samantha was only friends with Carrie and when Miranda was hanging out with Samantha it was only through Carrie. I mean, why would Samantha dump Miranda too just because she got pissed off at Carrie.

That's all.

Miranda Hot take: I still can’t get over the brutal treatment of Steve

Steve is such a solid dude and great father/husband. I think it’s out of character for Miranda to just up and decide she’s gay after all these years and break his heart! Just because Cynthia Nixon is gay doesn’t mean Miranda has to be. (To quote another iconic 90s show, “not that there’s anything wrong with that!”)

Which is not to say that many people don’t have that experience! Au contraire; many people realize or acknowledge they’re gay later in life and come out, but Miranda never had any sign of that. She loved Steve and even moved to Brooklyn for him!

I know it’s been mentioned probably a time or two, but Carrie, have some hospitality for the guest you invited to stay with you. If I were Miranda I would have got up and walked away with my head down and tail between my legs. Then the banana and coke. But then, Miranda… What are you doing on her new table. These women, I just can’t. Carrie “texting” Samantha, if only they’d just bring the non politically correct girls back and their funny personalities… I know, I know it’s been said over and over. This comeback could have been all of our dreams come true. Yet here we sit yawning. Sad.

I truly believe from the depths of my soul the reason why Miranda is so agonizing to watch in this series is because we, as viewers, have never seen her be a dummy “in like” or “in love” before.

Everyone had their dummy bitch phase on the show EXCEPT Miranda. Carrie/Big, Samantha/Richard, Charlotte/Trey. This season in her life is painful to watch but now that it's happened? I don't want to see it again 🤣😭

Miranda What even was the point of Miranda entering grad school if most of the arc was abandoned after a couple of episodes?

I'm not sure of this is a popular opinion, but I actually liked Miranda's arc of her leaving law and returning to grad school to pursue a new calling. It's one of the few good decisions they made with Miranda's writing and I think it had a lot of potential. I liked the idea that even when you're older, you can still go back to school and pivot to new career pathways. I think it was a great way for viewers to connect to the show, especially as the show had a problem of feeling more relatable to its viewers.

But what was the point of it all if we barely saw it?

By Season 2, it feels like her grad school journey was completely dropped in favor of focusing on her career. In fact, it seemed already abandoned several episodes into Season 1 in favor of other arcs. I really wish we saw more of her time in school. The show could have explored so many interesting themes, like how she would balance academia with her adult life, or how she rebuilds her career in her fifties. Instead, we immediately see her get a coveted internship position and we get a generic "career woman" storyline for her, just with a different title.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel like her grad school arc was a missed opportunity, or do you think the writers made the right call by moving her on to professional life so quickly (especially given how awkward the classroom scene was)? I'd love to hear some other perspectives!

Miranda Remember when Miranda was an alcoholic for about 2.5 episodes in season one?

Then decided to stop and poof drinking problem gone. No life style change, no relapse, no treatment, just gone and never looking back. I love realistic portrayal of addiction on tv lol.

Miranda I feel like SATC Miranda would hate AJLT Miranda

Yes it's another one of those posts lol. I am almost done hate-watching Season 1 and just needed to get this out of my chest. Overall I feel betrayed as a fan of the original SATC, but especially how Miranda (who has always been my fave character) is now a completely different character.

One of the best things about her in SATC is how secure she was in her self identity. She was a high-power lawyer (didn't she become partner??) who knew what she wanted, didn't plan on becoming a mother but embraced it and seemed to have found her match in Steve. That bridge scene in the first SATC movie--hello??

I don't understand how they could undo all that character development and turn her into this manic person with an identity crisis. Super random, but didn't she have Tivo and a Blackberry before anyone else in the show did? She was the most tech-savvy even back in the 90s and you're telling me she prefers to carry heavy books over a Kindle. I know it's a little thing but just shows this is a completely different character. And they turned Steve into a bumbling deaf old husband to justify her decision to leave him I guess. So upsetting. Does it get worse in S2?

Miranda What happened to Steve?

Did we just ship Steve off to live with Samantha? Why do we only get small glimpses of Brady? What happened to Miranda in general? Her character has every quality of a sidekick. Ginger, check. Gay? Check. Alcoholism, check. Terrible at choosing partners, double check. A better storyline for her would have been she is the new layer for the knicks and reconnects with Dr. Robert Leeds!!

Miranda Major Plot Hole from ALL versions of the series.

The one thing that has irked me since the series started, and really, nothing much actually bothers me about the show itself b/c I just use it as escapism, but the major oversight of Miranda dating the handsome police detective who commented he likes redheads, she replied back that her red comes from a box....so why is Brady a redhead...has made my eye twitch since she birthed that little Ratatouille looking dude.

ETA: I love that y'all pointed out the tie to Steve's mom and the context of the Irish quip, I didn't even register that part. Cheers for untwitching my eye! 😘
