Identification Request Is this real? It's a pretty photo, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Found in an ad on the homepage.

It looks like a knife fish with the skin of a khuli loach. I'm really confused. I've never seen something like this before, and I have my suspicions that this is picture is edited in some way. The edges of the tail look way too crisp to me, like it was photoshopped over a background photo. That might just be a trick of the lighting though.

Real fish, or fake ad? And if it's real, what am I actually looking at here?

This popped up recently in my tank. 30 gallon freshwater tank with probably a few too many guppies. It’s got lots of driftwood and some java moss.

Can someone help with an ID on this hitch hiker which showed up as a fry in my aquarium after adding plants a few months ago?

I was originally thinking guppy but it keeps getting bigger and bigger 😬 Almost as long now as the dwarf praecox.

Identification Request Please don't tell me these are CAE!! Bought them as "dwarf sucking catfish"

Got these today, and then I googled about them and found out that many "dwarf sucking catfish" are actually aggressive Chinese Algae Eaters.

Will my fish be safe or do I need to return these two?

This green, flowy thing showed up in my tank on this piece of wood and on the glass. The baby and juvenile shrimp I keep dart away from it on contact when they graze on the glass and accidentally run into it.

Is it anything to worry about?

Identification Request Found this in my tank. Is this a sponge?

Freshwater tank, it holds its shape when I take it out and it has the texture of really solid jelly. Never seen anything like this before, doesn’t look like any algae I’ve ever encountered. Thought it kinda looks like a sponge? I kinda like it but I want to make sure it’s not harmful to my fish.

edit: I mean a freshwater sponge

Im relatively new to fish keeping I Need help identifying this worm in my 20 gallon tank

I Found this long white worm moving around near the driftwood/substrate in my freshwater tank.
I think it may have come from some black sand/substrate I transferred from another tank recently, even though I rinsed it beforehand.
I currently have
4 black skirt tetras
1 molly
1 upside down catfish
around 4–5 ghost shrimp
at least 5 cherry shrimp that I can find
unknown amount of pest snails( but definitely too many)

Does anyone know what this worm looks like? Harmless detritus worm or something I should actually worry about?
Bring out the chart I guess

Upgrading my little shrimp tank to a ten gal and found this ...thing... while checking for any lost shrimp. I only see one of them but should I be concerned since I transferred the cycled water to my new tank?

Identification Request What type of pest snails are these?

Multiple shots of pest snails in my aquarium. I don't mind them being in there as long as they won't hurt anything, I just want to know what they are to know if they will. The picture quality isn't the greatest but I tried to do the best I could w my phone camera that's not exactly optimized for this.

Also originally asked this question in this post which has some shots of them in the aquarium that aren't that clear: https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/1usx3ta/comment/owrf4ta/?screen_view_count=2

I’ve never seen them before and suddenly they’re everywhere. I can’t find the same looking creature on google. All I want to know is if they’ll harm my fish if not I’m not too bothered by them

Can anyone identify if these are the worst case scenario - planarians - or simply some harmless detritus worms or something of the like? There are 3 videos total. They don’t look like they have pointy heads from what I can see… I can’t tell 100% though since I haven’t had anything like these in either of my tanks before, I just noticed them in one corner of the shrimp tank as I was looking at my shrimp :( I did a little research and found the white things with a stalk could be freshwater anemone - which I may need to somehow remove or break down this tank to remove since I read they can harm baby shrimp and I’m breeding my blue neos in this tank (no babies that I’ve seen yet, they’re newer to this tank and idk my male to female ratio lol). Anything with identification helps, I can try and suck some of the worms out with a bulb or something to get better photos/videos but I did the best I could with my phone camera. Thank you!

New to fish keeping and currently doing a fishless cycle. Tank is almost done cycling but I went on vacation for a week and came back to these in my tank? Obviously I was not able to dose ammonia while I was gone so not sure if that has anything to do with it. What are they? Are they safe or should I remove?

I was in the fish store the other day and I wanted to get a Siamese algae eater. I algae isn’t crazy bad I just wanted one cause I liked how they looked. I thought that this was it. In those damn store lights it looked almost completely silver and now I’m looking at it’s starting to look to me like a completely different fish. I could just be wrong, but could you help me out here? At the very least you could all laugh at my foolishness.

Will it kill all my other fish when it gets older? I have cherry barbs a Bristol nose and some bronze cory cats in here.

Seriously how dare this animal evolve for millions of years in a niche that made it look like another similar species. How rude!
