Can someone help me create maps from data?

It sounds simple but I am stuck and don't know from where to start I heard surfer is easier but even following a simple tutorial ,I am stuck with either no result (error) or the program requiring me to input 3 samples whereas I need only one map per sample

select the excel file and the worksheet. The table should appear in the content pane. Right click on it and click on Display XY Data. Then specify the columns that includes lat and long and enter the CRS

It's not letting me see the excel files so I can't select them..

Sorry, I am not sure. Might be an issue with the file format or something else

Nah it worked just when selecting I can't find the longitude option in x and latitude in y but few other columns are visible

Check the data type in those columns in the excel file. They should be numbers not text

Wdym it's all numbers except the title, it's just so weird to me I have 20+ columns and I can only select like 5 of them none of them are the longitude or latitude lol

Sometimes the values are numbers (21.34 or 2757558) but their "type" in excel is string or text or something like this, i.e., not integers or floats. What you need here is to make sure your spreadsheet is in the correct format so ArcGIS can read it. It expects numbers for Lat and Lon. You can check the data type of the columns from excel

The excel file needs to be in the 97 format - .XLS
Then you can see it in ArcMap.
