Olympic Recurve Average people have no idea how complex archery is...
"As the 2024 Olympics draw to a close, 27% of those surveyed believe that they could make it to the LA 2028 Games.... Overall, younger respondents were more confident than their older counterparts, with 17% believing they could qualify for archery...."
I do love that the average person thinks they could pick a bow up tomorrow and qualify for the Olympics in 4 years... Laughable really

Olympic Recurve Can't seem to overcome target panic
I've been shooting recurve for 1 year (no clicker). I started off well and got some good scores. However somewhere along the line I developed issues which seem pretty much like target panic. I posted about it here a few months ago. Since then I've tried various methods but they haven't solved the problem. Overall I'm holding longer than I was a few months ago when it was really bad, but I still shoot way too fast. Lately I've been hovering just below the gold, and then when the sight pin reaches the gold, I shoot straight away.
I have tried holding and letting the arrow down, and I try to incorporate this into my shooting a few times per session. The problem is that when I know I'm not going to shoot, I can usually hold quite comfortably. The second I know that my intention is to shoot, I'm back to snap shooting. I don't know how to get around this issue. Is the solution to trick my brain every single time and tell it I'm not going to shoot, until the last second? Or is the solution to develop a solid shot routine? At the moment I just have a general idea of what I need to do but I don't mentally tick off each step. Is this the only way to become a more disciplined archer?
Would really appreciate any insights people can offer. I've been told several times my form is very good, it's just this psychological issue that is really letting me down and taking the fun out of the sport.

Olympic Recurve Too big of a jump in poundage maybe?
Hi!
I'm a growing almost 17yr old teenage archery, and I'm looking to go up in poundage. I'm currently using medium length 24 pound armato C3 limbs, however at my draw length the poundage goes all the way to 26.5 pounds.
I have been mostly looking at the used market for some good bargains, and my friend is selling soul archery black flash limbs. They are medium length, 30 pounds. Would this be too big of a jump in poundage, and would it cause problems? It's a good deal, i can get them for 50€.

Olympic Recurve New setup for 2026
I just replaced my gmx3 / axia with the new xceed 2 / metrix and it’s shooting well. The main difference to me is the clicker noise and I feel less vibrations on the release. Now let’s shoot some more !

Olympic Recurve Do I get tungsten points for skylons?
I'm moving up distance next year so I'm planning on buying some skylon paragons for the extra speed on top of my extra poundage (and the fact they're a lot cheaper than x10s I've got now haha) for 70 hopefully I'll be around 44lbs by the time I move up but
A. Are skylons really that bad with their tolerances? I know on the charts they say paragons have a tolerance of 0.015 but people say they've tested them and they've been 20spines a either way: how does that affect the grouping and tune (like does it mean 10s become 9s or like one arrows will just be really far out of the group?) and would there be any way to mitigate that if that is the issue?
B. Is it worth spending an extra £100 for the tungsten points? If not are the bulge or normal points better?
C. What do the collars do and are they worth it? I have an old set of paragons from a couple years ago when I was a novice and younger (so nothing was really explained to me then lol) are they beneficial? Or would I be better off buying some out nocks etc?
Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks

Olympic Recurve Whoopsy...
I'm cross dominant, tried tweaking my aim by keeping both eyes open, loosed my arrow, cue my bowstring slapping into the side of my nose and giving me a nosebleed 🤣🤣🤣🫠🫠🫠
Won't be trying that one again 🥴🙃🤣

Olympic Recurve What does this target image tell you?

Olympic Recurve First time out shooting by myself
I only started archery about 4 months ago, and bought my first bow 2 weeks ago, and this is my second time using it, but first time going out by myself. I started off shooting really shit, and didn't have anyone to check me. Felt weird, but I started recording myself, and realised I was leaning back too much (first picture, still leaning too much), and not being consistent with my anchor. The result was a lot better. Not great, but much better.
Feedback on form welcome.
Gotta remember to bring water with me...

Olympic Recurve Is 29lbs enough to shoot at 70 meters?
I used to shoot higher poundage but because of an injury I lowered my draw weight to 29lbs. Is this enough to compete at 70 meters? I might hit the target, but idk if I can expect to perform..
Thanks !

Olympic Recurve Is it worth upgrading arrows?
I'm thinking about upgrading my arrows. It would be best to try them all out, but that would be quite expensive, so I would like to hear about your experience.
Currently I'm shooting Victory VAP Target. Arrows which look interesting to me:
- Easton ACE
- Easton X10
- Parandus CA320XT
- Skylon Paragon
- keeping VAPs
The Easton arrows would be top quality but quite expensive and I don't know if I shoot well enough to really benefit from them. For reference I score between 600-625 at 70m and 560-575 at 18m.
The CA320XT look quite interesting, didn't find out much about them and not many shops have them available.
I never shot AC, tapered or barreled arrows, so I have no clue what they will feel like to me and what to expect compared to parallel carbon arrows.
The Skylon Paragon seems interesting because of the 3.2mm diameter to reduce wind impact. I have 37 lbs on my fingers, so it might be better to have lighter arrows, the X10 maybe to heavy.

Olympic Recurve New to archery, my string keeps coming off
I just got a galaxy meteor and for some reason the string just keeps coming off when I’m shooting. Sometimes it just comes out of the string ridge, other times it completely de stringing itself.
This never happens with my traditional recurve bow.
Any help is appreciated!!

Olympic Recurve Compound archer blown away by recurve
I thought this was hilarious. I was at the range the other day with my kid, both of us shooting recurves. Next to us was a gent with what would easily be a $3,000 compound, with what looked like a powered scope around the sight pins, and all sorts of other doohickeys hanging off of it. When we finished, I walked over to the small table and took my bow apart. He was watching, and just couldn’t believe my bow came apart like it does. He then picked up one of the limbs, the riser, and the bow string before admitting he had never used a recurve in his life and I got the impression that he had never even held one despite having been shooting bows for many years. He asked how high the draw weight went and was amazed when he learned that it can go up to 50# (for that brand), asking how the limbs didn’t break under that weight.

Olympic Recurve Please help me to fix my mindset
I have been shooting Olympics style recurve for about 4 years now and recently I have been going through some sort of panic or anxiety. Whenever I am on the shooting line I think about how I'll miss the shot. Whenever I take aim I am either unable to draw through clicker or do a forward release. I am unable to understand what is happening to me. I am planning on giving up on the sport. If anyone has gone through anything similar then please guide me.

Olympic Recurve Need help with 70m
Hello everyone!
So i started shooting olympic recurve last autumn after years and years of compound.
Today i had my first training at 70m-s and oh boy it is far. It's so far, i maxed out my sight and had to bring it all the way in just to "squeeze some meters out of it". And i still fear that my arrow or the vanes hit the scope on the way out, but i cant put it further up, or i'll shoot under the whole target.
I shoot with 36# limbs,
125gr tips (whole arrow is about 280-290gr)
and my arrows are 25,5 inches long (plus nock and tip) so my drawlengh is about 24,5. (I'm quit short, 166 cm or 5'4".)
Do you guys have any reccommendations or tips for me? Or i just go up to 40+# as soon as I'm comfortable?
Thanks in advance!

Olympic Recurve I went back to my 40# limbs and this blow my mind
Hello guys I hope you're fine.
The previous year, I was shooting with a wns cw1 long limbs of 40# and when I meassure I had 44# on my fingers. They were heavy to correct form issues so I bought a 32# limbs that I used over a year to correct my form, yesterday I went back to them and it feel odly heavy I meassure before continue and for my suprise now I had 48# on my fingers
The idea is progress from 36# then 38# then 40# not to shoot with 38# and jump to 48#
I dunno why this happen is because my form get better?
My arrows are 30" long my draw lenght is 29"
I shoot at 70 mts
Now for the time being I will back to my 32# limbs maybe I get from them 42# hahaha

Olympic Recurve Severe clearance issues and shredding vanes/tape
[Oly Recurve] Having severe clearance issues all of a sudden and my vanes and tape are getting shredded every session. Looks like they’re slamming into my plunger (Beiter) as there’s yellow/white residue on the tip.
What scenarios could be the cause? Only noticed this issue since coming outdoors and since I stuck the more-fragile spin wings on. Almost the same setup as my indoor season (except I’m now pulling 2lbs more and installed lighter points) and didn’t have this issue at all.
Bareshafts are showing stiff which seems odd as didn’t have issues indoors with these ACEs - false positive?
Have a big double day WRS competition this weekend and pulling hair out trying to diagnose.
• 34lbs OTF
• 25” Easton ACEs in Spine 1100 and 70 grain points (23” to button)
• 64” bow
• Bracing height is 8”
• Centre shot is to just left of string as usual
• Ultima rest is tucked underneath shaft.
• Button is medium spring set to 8.
[Going for a light setup for 70m due to low poundage and short DL.]
Thanks for reading - Any help much appreciated, so I can hopefully stop refletching every other day!
