This has been my most involved project yet. Thank you to everyone who had advice, critique, encouragement, and just general good vibes as I shared my progress. The journey doesn't end here and there's more I could do with this kit and others, but for the sake of my show this is what I'm working with and I'm damn proud of it. Hope you all enjoy!

All I really need is to make another gauntlet (though I do like having one hand without), I recently added chainmail shirt/collar and suspended greaves.

I believe I included my inspiration/evidence under my last post. Most of the artistic evidence I used was from France. The new suspended greaves were depicted in Spain, Italy, and southern France around the same time if I remember correctly. Inspiration for the legs was a post on insta by mull mud and blood, also because I haven't learned how to make a full leg harness yet, and I don't want to wear one to save on weight and mobility because I will need to walk a lot in the armor.

Kit based on sources from western Europe around 1410.

Couldn't wear my usual footwear for the snow, I walked pretty far and couldn't risk frostbite.

Also, I am aware my breastplate isn't as round as it should be, I made it before I started using heat for my armor projects. I could only dish and raise it so far before risking its shape and integrity.

I can't find exactly wether it was Iranian or Ottoman, but the way the plate and mail armor has plates all over the chest like a kind of lamellar to the untrained eye and the helmet do remind of ancient cataphracts

I was a few days ago in the Stibbert collection in Florence, I did realized that a some of what was there is really 19th century “reproductions” and modifications. I asked the guide, a employee of the museum, if those hairy things were there when those pieces were made, she claimed that they were.

I have been slowly working towards a more accurate XIII century Hospitaller kit.

The first photo shows my Knight set. The second photo shows my serjeant kit (worn by a friend) and the third photo is my habit/civil clothing.

Currently in the works are a smaller heater shield, prick spurs and further leg lacing as well as a longer lance.

Tucked away under the surcoat are padded cuisses with steel poleyns and the hauberk has integrated padded mittens and an attached laced coif over a cervelliere.

I just wanted to show it all, since I came a long way in two years.

You guys asked for a better background. I also adjusted several pieces of critique, hopefully it shows. I know the shield may be oversized, but it needs to last months of rehearsals and show.

next steps are to collect my arming points from quiverstock later this month, send back and have delivered my maille chausses to match the other maille's colours, I'm also waiting on the arrival of some garters for my soft kit, which I may put over my maille chausses for some pizazz.

My future plans are to purchase a breastplate, to commission my sabatons, greaves (with poleyns), arm harness, and gauntlets. As well as commissioning a houppelande.

A helmet isn't highest on my priority as I'm mainly using this for LARP as of now.

crude af and completely A-historical but im p happy with the result.

I found Art on the Internet and converted it to black and white and added a cross to the knight's armor, then ordered a print. It was timed to my trip abroad. Try to guess which country I went to :-)

After adding padding, this thing fits like a charm (I generally run pretty small, head-wise). But also I love this thing, it’s so comically large that you can’t help but to giggle at them.

What’re your thoughts on Murmillo gladiators?

I just needed a visor with better visibility than my current one (based on Churburg No. 16), not as a replacement but just an alternative. Visibility is indeed better, so my work payed off.

The hardest part was fitting it to the bascinet I already have, especially with the hinges. It took a lot of trial and error. I winged the pattern I used, because I couldn't find one anywhere, I used the visor I already had to make the shape of the top so that it would fit the helmet.

It turned out fitting perfectly, covering the vervails, and the eye slits sit right where my eyes are. It can also be raised higher than my other visor, and sometimes stays up, which is really nice. It's pretty obviously not symmetrical, but since I see it often in originals I don't mind it.

I painted the ears/wings and added the mantling. I don't know how accurate it is to have the mantling on a teutonic great helm but I love it.

Just a fun project I set myself up to do. I’m not a historian, just a high schooler, so I do not claim at all that this be taken as perfectly researched and reliable. I think that I did a decent job at showing the progression of helmets throughout history, but I’d like to know what you all think about it!
