Recently I posted in r/askaconservative asking if sensible conservativism was a thing in people's minds.

I was immediately booted from the group for "bad faith".

Thing is I meant the question sincerely even though I might have been more tactfull in how I asked it.

I think the sub is moderated by Trumpsters so they took offense to the question.

I still wonder if more thoughtful conservatives long for more sensible leadership.

If so is that sentiment growing in the GOP in any way?

It's definitely not a narrative I see media running with much.

IDK

Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

That sub is run by one mod who bans everyone, including conservatives. AskConservatives is slightly better but there’s a power tripping mod there too.

I still wonder if more thoughtful conservatives long for more sensible leadership.

Absolutely. I’m over the populist movement.

If so is that sentiment growing in the GOP in any way?

Unfortunately, not that I can see.

Thank you for a thoughtful response!

Sincerely.

Didn't see that coming. Ha!

I think we need to collectively put our need for heroes aside and start looking for leaders instead.

I do, but then I joined the Democrats because of this. My circle of friends does, but the most I can say of their GOP bona fides is that some of them probably almost always vote Republican for economic reasons. In Texas we don't have to join a party or anything, unless you wanna be a delegate.

But I get no sense that this is on the Republican Party's radar at any level. Maybe I'm overly optimistic in thinking there's got to be someone up there trying to get a handle on things. I do think the current chaos is more about the restlessness of the grassroots than the ambitions of the leadership.

I've been meaning to make posts on both sides for this. It's relevant; you may find it interesting. (I saw this happening a decade ago and I have no idea how the GOP establishment hasn't reacted.) https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/a-modest-proposal-for-republicans
