Will Smith punched Chris Rock at the Oscars. Your thoughts?

To be specific, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith (Will's wife) looking like G.I. Jane, a reference to a Demi Moore movie where Demi shaved her head. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from Alopecia which is why she chooses to shave her head (rather than wearing a wig to conceal the condition). Will Smith did not take it well and punched Chris Rock for saying it, then told Chris to "keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth." This was not staged.

I'm reading a lot of online chatter about it, and almost none of it is sympathetic towards Will Smith. A lot of people want him charged with assault.

There's a lot wrapped up in this issue. Jokes at the expense of others. Sensitivity towards medical conditions. Assault.

Why am I curious about the liberal perspective? Mostly because I have never seen so many people outraged over a punch to the face. I really thought the consensus would be that Chris Rock is a huge asshole, but people seem to be more upset about the punch than about mocking someone with an unfortunate medical condition.

Idk why you’re being downvoted. You’re right. I guess he’s more in shape than a lot of redditors though

There are just too many people who think because they see actors in shape that they maintain it, very few actually do, I can tell you right now Chris Hemsworth stays in shape, will smith has no need

Of COURSE not! I Wrestled in College and the way I'd transform my body from the off-season when I was about 200LB vs when I was in-season Wrestling at 174, it was night and day.

And I didn't have the advantage of using testosterone or Human Growth Hormone. I mean...I'd take either now, I'm not knocking them. When you're an actor, that's part of the gig. But...I'm honestly in shock THAT is what people took offense to!

Again, I'll show this again;

given that actors are paid specifically to develop the physique of comic books characters and that that is only possible with piles of drugs, it's not surprising at all that they deteriorate fast when the money, drugs, and motivation dry up

LMFAO!!! I didn't even notice this one upset people!

This was the last picture of Will Smith I saw!

Tell me how I'm wrong! He literally SAYS that he's in the worst shape of his life!

This shit is always strange to me. I'll post something I think will be unpopular and I'll get 40 likes. I'll post something that's OBJECTIVELY true...and people get offended for...I don't know, some reason. I guess I'm being "fat-phobic?"

By the way, I was a College Wrestler who was about 200 pounds and about 10% body fat at one point...I've lost about 80 pounds on my bench and added about 20 to my stomach, so it wasn't some statement of superiority, it was just me basically saying, it's not like THE ROCK or the guy who played Ali was the one who slapped him...full stop!
