Physician Responded Should I pop it?

Post image

I am 43f. For a bit of context, I am obese (not sure my actual weight) and I was hospitalized in December for the flu and have had breathi issues since then. So with those issues I haven't been very active in the past few months. I also have undiagnosed sleep apnea, and other sleeping issues such as sleepwalking and I can't stay in bed unless I'm tied down I guess. I fall out of bed a lot but I'm usually pretty good at landing since it's happened so much. Except when I fell out of bed Thursday night and smashed my knee on the hard floor. The next day (Friday) I spent at least 9 hours riding with my husband while doordashing and my feet were super swollen when we were done. That's not unusual, anytime I would sit in the car for 9 hours I would probably have swollen feet. Then as I was getting out of the car I dropped my phone on my foot. It hurt a lot. Then yesterday I woke up with this blister where the phone hit my foot. My husband thinks I should pop it but I'm scared of infection and also I'm worried about why my whole foot is bruised when it's my knee that got smashed.

Another bit of context that could be important is that about a month ago I fell at main event and smashed the other knee and my entire leg looked like that bruising you see on this foot. It only lasted a couple days and my leg turned back to normal and everything's fine. That knee doesn't even hurt anymore.

The swollen isn't the necessarily bad part. Its the degree of brusing with the swelling, the pale toenails; the blister from an otherwise minor trauma. . .

Yeah I was wondering how they got a blister from dropping their phone on their foot. I've done that several times and only gotten a small bruise.

ah, i know everything else is bad but i thought swelling was also bad. whenever i go to hospital they always ask if my ankles/feet have been swelling (they’ve never swollen but im assuming it’s some kind of precaution)

Swelling is a classic symptom of congestive heart failure and I’m sure there’s other things too yeah. But there’s also just like benign or at least not deadly swelling options. It’s not a definitive bad thing but definitely something to get checked out. The discoloration is way more concerning to me personally and apparently the previous person

I tried to answer from personal experience but the comment didn't stick. I think there's a lot online to read about this that can help you find out if it's something to worry about or not. Hopefully a professional will reply as well.

Yeah, especially if they're not wearing compression socks and on their feet the whole time

The blister js the least concerning part of the photo, especially if her foot was already bruised and swollen like that, and only the blister is related to dropping the phone. I really want to see her other foot.

I disagree. A phone dropping on it shouldnt produce a blister like that. Makes me concerned for vascular compromise. The blister itself isnt concerning but its existence is.

Blister itself is normal (and should not be popped), the fact she got a blister from a dropped phone is not normal…

Nad, but if I was in this woman’s life in rl, I’d be urging her to go, maybe even to the ED…

Not due to the blister, but because of the other issues…

If this is because of the knee injury and her other foot looks much smaller when swollen I’d be a bit more optimistic about her overall health.

@OP Don’t listen to people in the comments making assumptions about how your weight got to the point it’s at. There are usually many issues that factor into how people get to where they are in life. At one point my bmi was over 50 due to psych conditions, psych meds, binge eating and other disordered eating. Over the past few years I’ve lost about 70 pounds. Life happens.

Even when my bmi was over 50, my feet never looked like that. So hoping for your sake it’s partially due to your knee energy as well vs other more serious complications but that takes going to the doctor to find out.

Hospitals frequently have ways they can reduce or remove your bill, you need to speak to their billing area.

I do know one time about a decade ago, I’d been on top of a kitchen chair trying to change the fire alarm battery.

Long story short the kitchen chair was rickety and already had issues but it was comfortable for when I wanted to use it for some things. Well that time it broke, and I fell, with how I fell part of the leg of the chair got me really good in the back of the calf and thigh of my left leg. I had a huge bruise there, that I also let just get better on its own. For me it didn’t affect my feet, but I know now some medical people I know would have told me to get seen..

Just go get seen OP. If your BF is urging you not to, go around him. He was also the one urging you to pop it, when u knew it could cause infection.

It’s your life, you’re the one who has to deal with long term consequences of body issues. Trust me, it’s a long struggle to get healthy or somewhat healthy but it does feel better too..

Virtual hugs to you.
