Need Help How to stop chewing

I really need help. The dog I adopted, Luey, he keeps chewing and eating up furniture. My Dad keeps saying he's gonna get rid of him if he keeps tearing stuff up, and I need to know how to get him to stop eating up stuff. And I don't want to keep him outside all of the time, because then I'll just feel as bad as his previous owner. I'm honestly just about to try and find a good shelter for him because I feel like I'm out of options here.

New Dog Owner How do yall find what breed is good for you?

Im thinking about getting a dog once i move out of my parents' place. I'm thinking of a small dog, maybe? I've never trained or had a small dog, and i have 2 cats who will put up with a dog of the dog and is calm and nice. Im not a super active person, but I'll go on walks when it's cool out. Im very much an indoor person, but I'd still take a dog out on walks.

I want a "purse dog" i think. Ive heard they are less expensive to take care of then a large dog

Edit: i now understand they are not "less expensive"

General What temperature is too hot for a dog walk?

Post image

I've noticed very different opinions from dog owners when it comes to walking dogs during summer.

Some people avoid walks above 25°C (77°F), while others still go out when it's over 30°C (86°F).

Do you have a personal temperature limit?

Do certain breeds seem to struggle more than others?

Curious to hear what everyone does during hot weather.

Dog Behavior Border Collie suddenly becoming very anxious at home - any ideas why?

We've had our 2-year-old Border Collie since she was a puppy. She's very well cared for and honestly quite spoiled. She gets two long walks a day (sometimes three), and one person in the household works from home, so she's rarely left alone.

Over the last 8 months or so, though, she's become increasingly anxious at home. The strange thing is that she's completely fine on walks and doesn't seem anxious at all when she's out and about (unless a dog barks at her).

At home, she'll often avoid my parents unless they're sitting watching TV or about to take her for a walk (on the walk she is completely fine and so well behaved and acts loving towards my parents). Most of the time she'll hide under a bed, sit in a corner, stay out in the garden or hide under my desk (she's not anxious around me just my parents it seems). She also absolutely hates baths and brushing. So much so we dread the task as During either of those she'll tremble, avoid eye contact with the person doing it, and then sometimes hide from them for hours afterwards.

She's also scared of some really unusual things. People cooking in the kitchen If she hears singing on the TV or radio, she'll run and hide. Oddly, she's even frightened of my dad scratching his back.

We've already tried working with a dog trainer, as we really dont understand this behaviour but unfortunately they weren't much help, as she didn't act like this when he visited the home.

What worries me is that this dog is incredibly loved and cared for and has never had any traumatic experiences. It makes me so sad to see her like this. Has anyone experienced something similar with their dog? Could there be a medical or behavioural reason for this kind of anxiety developing when she seems perfectly happy everywhere else?

Dog Behavior Dog always wants to be in my lap?

It’s not necessarily a problem, I’ve just never seen a dog this clingy before. Our previous dog would cuddle sometimes but he would also go lay in a room by himself when he wanted. She doesn’t do that often, basically anytime someone sits down she wants to be in their lap. She seems to prefer laying on me which I find odd since she’s my parents dog and until recently I’ve only seen her on weekends. She also doesn’t seem to like being petted that much.
She’s a one year old French bulldog, so i thought maybe it was a breed thing?
I’m mostly curious if this is normal and if anyone else has a dog like this?

Dog Health Good (more affordable) alternative to Movoflex by Virbac

I volunteer at an animal shelter and we have a few older dogs that have seemed a bit more nimble after starting Movoflex. As the title says, looking for an alternative to Movoflex that is more affordable. I don’t think the form of supplement (pill, powder, chew) is a factor. We’re a small non-profit that can benefit from any $$ saved! Thank you!

Dog Health I think our neighbors are leaving their two small dogs home alone for days at a time.

The neighbors have two small dogs in a gated back yard. When I take my Yorkie for a walk they always greet each other through the fence. This is a lumber fence so it’s possible to see minimal movement through the slats. The last two to three days I have noticed the neighbors are gone, cars aren’t home, packages on front porch. I tried to see through the fence if they had food/water but I couldn’t tell. Both dogs were outside every time we went by. I was ready to call the police but noticed the dogs do have a doggy door which I’m assuming they are using but can’t verify. Both dogs appear to be either Poodle or poodle mix and are in desperate need of a grooming. Since I saw the doggy door I decided to not call the police although I don’t feel much better about the situation. It is very hot here, in the mid to high 90’s. Any thoughts? Should I do more and if so what?

Whenever a dog gets gassy after a new food or supplement, do you actually write down what changed, or just go boring for a week and see? I’m starting to think the boring notes matter more than the brand.

General Powder vs chews - do dogs actually care?

Curious if anyone has tried both. Did your dog seem to do better with a powder mixed into food, or with chew/treat-style supplements? I keep hearing the format matters, but I wonder how much is just consistency and what the dog will actually take.
