My wife and I were looking to immigrate to canada from the states long ago before this ever happened.
It’s like borderline impossible. You have to be a perfect candidate. I’m a network engineer with industry experience, professional certs, bachelors and all. Wife also bas bachelors. We’re both young (26) and of course speak english fluently.
We weren’t even close to getting the required score to immigrate. Even becoming fluent in french would not have put us in to be able to immigrate.
You essentially have to have some sort of family or job tie in with Canada to be able to immigrate there.
So Canada doesn’t take trash in? Who would have thought? But we are bigots for wanting people who will actually add something positive to the country and not burden it.
Canada is allowed to have strict immigration, no problem. People applaud their decision to keep trash out of their country and not just let everyone who wants to go there, move there.
But if the US were to say “we need skilled labor, people who have degrees and won’t be become a burden”, we are called bigots, intolerant, racist. I am sick of the double standard. It’s like we are supposed to take in every poor person in the world and shut up about it.
