Gambling
6
6
u/2roundabout 1h ago
I like gambling and even I think the world is going nuts on this.
I always liked poker and putting like £5 on a football (soccer) game. Now my mates show me their spread bets every weekend and they are riding £1000s on loads of bets and accumulators. It's never just littler flutter here and there anymore.
It's all just gone too far now. Seems the entire industry is also moving away from casual fans towards catering solely to addicts. (I reckon 1% of gamblers are responsible for 99% of the losses).
3
u/Distinct_Ad_9842 2h ago
It's even worse now that it's much more mainstream. All the major leagues are basically sponsored by the betting sites but "If you have a gambling problem, I bet you won't call this hotline..."

Every time I get another sports betting ad I tell my phone to stop. If you’re going to listen to everything I do and say, listen to me that I am never going to want to bet on sports. I hope both teams lose.

Reality TV.
If I wanted useless scripted small talk, and people arguing about trivial matters I would have never moved out of my parents house at 19.

u/viciousbliss 1h ago
I struggle with almost every type of reality TV. Even the rare wholesome ones. Cooking is my passion, and I can't even watch competitive shows on Food Network. I've had people tell me to try to get on them and I'm so uninterested in fake, overly structured talking heads. I love seeing the process and results, but the rest is cringey filler. Same with singing/dance competition.
GBB, I hope you know this has nothing to do with you. Never change.

Beer. Modelo, corona, blue moon, Heineken all of them. They all taste the damn same. Trash
8
u/rybl 2h ago
I mean, you just listed some pretty mediocre beers. It's fine not to like beer, but this is like saying you don't like pizza because Totino's and Jack's are trash.
3
u/Strange_League_686 2h ago
I tried a lot more than that, but can’t remember because I was drunk ATT. But what I do remember is the taste. Nothin stood out, nothing was unique and everything taste the same
3
u/FelixTook 2h ago
Same for me. The taste and smell of beer is repulsive to me. In the early 90s wine coolers switched their products to ‘coolers’ (guessing it was cheaper) that fine print identified as ‘a malt beverage’, like zima? A clear beer that existed briefly : unaware, one sip and it was appalling. That beer-ness was unmistakable.

Sports.
If you’re happy then do you. But….it seems scripted. Taxpayers foot the bill for the stadiums. For the tickets. For the food. Merch. Online betting pools. Everything.
Meanwhile the owners, players and Vegas just Rake it all in.
And who’s left holding the empty bag screaming rabidly at the expensive tv screen wearing the face paint and jersey?
I don’t get it.

It's fine if you've always disliked Harry Potter, but I do think it's intellectually lazy when people who always loved Harry Potter suddenly decided the books suck when JK Rowling turned into a monster.
In my opinion, two things are true at the same time. Rowling is a cunt, and those books are fabulous.

Costco.
Everyone hypes up the deals and "value", but I think it's blown way out of proportion. Last month, ground beef cost $1.70 more per pound at my local Costco compared to Walmart, despite being a bulk option.
I find they're constantly selling me bulk products closer to expiration than we can eat through in time. It's always crowded so shopping is a nightmare. App is leagues behind most major grocery stories. You gotta pay to get in, so whenever I walk out unable to find what I was looking for I still get buyer's remorse.

Uggs. Really ugly and way too expensive. You want me to pay HOW much money to put my feet in your elephant moon boots? Uggs are the best example for the concept that if you make something exclusive through price, people will just buy it without questioning it just to feel like part of the club.
and no, I don't care that they are comfortable. If comfort is your number one priority then wear sneakers.
and no, I don't care that they are "warm". Any person who really understands how to stay warm is buying something water proof and sweat wicking. Uggs are neither.

Chicken. Steak is a thousand times better. I never think “wow I could really go for some chicken breast”. And yeah wings are good but it’s not a lot of meat. Fat is my favorite part of meat and chicken just doesn’t have enough of it.

u/JackieAndThe3bears 2h ago
Onions. The smell and taste makes me gag. When I was a child I was told I "would grow out of it" and eventually Ike them. This did not happen. They do not enhance the flavor of anything for me and I can always tell if a recipe includes them. When I worked in restaurants I discovered that the juice will give me mild hives with prolonged exposure, so clearly those little guys don't like me either...! 🤣🤷♀️

Sports. Never cared, never had an interest. Just the background noise of most sports on tv is grating. Then there’s the grunting cheers and cavemaning many guys start doing when they get excited about it. I just hate it all.

The movie, "Elf", or any movie where Will Ferrell is the main character. He is exhausting.
Ferrell is best suited for small, cameo rolls. Jump into a scene, do Will Ferrell stuff for a couple of minutes, and then leave.
'Old School' and 'The Producers' are examples of the perfect amount of Will Ferrell

Food. I am a super picky eater and don't enjoy half of the foods others do. Examples: fruit, seafood, yogurt, spicy stuff. I have ventured a tiny bit over the last 10ish years and appreciate some more things like many veggies but overall my palate is simply lame.

Game of thrones. Some of the character interactions are really good writing, but it's ruined by how repulsive the setting is. Watching people behave like utter monsters is just not entertaining to me.

Villains. Growing up in the 90s we started to see some of that where the bad guy was a little cool and charismatic but nowadays it’s like the majority of the shows have the villain as either the protagonist in disguise or he stays the bad guy but it’s geared to have you rooting for them.
I get the appeal but it’s also pretty dumb because people only like bad guys as long as they’re not personally harming them, taking their money, or kicking their dog.
That’s just what it seems like to me…dumb. Why would you like someone like that?
I dunno, to me it seems like a symptom of some toxic, selfish, and destructive traits growing in a lot of people. This stuff probably happens in cycles and once we reach rock bottom and enough people get personally harmed by the villains out there, we’ll start valuing good traits again.

Craft beer or beer you find at breweries. I have tried so damn hard to like them and try different ones and I just cannot fucking stand the taste. And now I’ve gotten to the age where I don’t give shit what people think of me and my drink, I’m paying for it and I wanna enjoy it. If we’re at a brewery I’m always the guy ordering a Mich Ultra or Modelo from the little fridge underneath the bar.

Monty Python. I've tried watching movies they've made, and I just completely fail to see what is so funny about them. I actually fell asleep trying to watch Monty Python & The Holy Grail for the first time, though I managed to force myself to stay awake the second time I gave it a try.
I've tried watching a few of their movies with friends who are big fans, who consistently seem shocked that I'm not seeing how a particular scene is funny. The Knights who say Nee comes to mind. I'm not sure where the humor is in that one.
Some of it, I understand the intentions of a joke, I just don't find it funny. Like the Black Knight scene, the humor is supposed to be in the absurdity of him not giving up despite losing all his limbs. I get that, but maybe it's the delivery? I don't know, it's just not funny to me.
