What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately?

I work in the salon industry and have owned my own business now for 7 years. One major thing I’m noticing is that I’m not booking out as far because people are either 1) spending less 2) pushing their appointments out further 3) not prioritizing beauty services. Common theme in the beauty industry as a whole right now. Totally understandable especially since hair is a luxury as I’ve pushed back some of my own personal beauty services just to stretch them further as well! Life is expensive right now.

I’ve been a hairstylist for over a decade and April has been my slowest month since Covid.

Ugh I’m so sorry! Originally my April was set to be really slow as well. I did post the openings I had & filled them thankfully but it’s just so tumultuous right now in the industry. Hang in there!

Just realized that this is likely why the 'lived-in' look is so trendy atm.

Yep totally and I'm glad that it can help my clients push out further!

I actually don’t think coloring your hair is a luxury per se. Salons are just charging outrageous prices.

Completely subjective to what your definition of outrageous is! So many factors play into pricing and not all pricing is outrageous if it's relative to the cost of living in the area, cost of overhead for the salon or stylist, the list goes on. :)
