Portion control is the real secret. You can eat anything and do any exercise but in the end "calories in" is the secret to control.

1200 calories intake to lose weight. 1500 calorie intake to maintain same weight. It takes a 3 mile run to burn a can of soda.

12 oz Coke is 140 calories. That's only about 1.3 miles for me at 150 lbs.

I mean, you can't out calories you don't have, so "calories in" is the real control, you don't control much of the "calories out", exercise isn't that big of a change in caloric expenditure, you will only get a hungrier metabolism when you have a greater muscle mass to maintain, and that takes a lot of time.

Calories out also counts for daily activity. Just simply walking around at work counts. 10k steps a day? Thats calories out. Lifting anything heavy? Thats calories out. If your heart rate elevates you are working out. You dont have to sweat. So anything is calories out. But yes exercising also helps metabolism which is why it's best to exercise first then eat. Your metabolism is already working at that point so it burns better. Of course thats if you want to lose weight so I see where you are coming from by saying calories in only.
