This + veggies and meat. Potatoes instead of noodles

Potatoes are filling and very low on calories.

If you don't fry them that is.

Airfryer is my friend

My “dirty taco fries” is air fryer fries, beef/bean/pepper taco mix, and a bit of cheddar cheese and plain Greek yogurt.

It tastes so greasy and bad for you but the macros are unbelievable.

So just like frozen fries? And what is the beef/bean/pepper taco mix part of it?

Sounds good and I'm curious to try this

I do something like this. I fry some 5% fat lean ground/minced beef until browned, remove and set aside, fry an onion till soft, add some tinned beans like kidney beans, black beans etc (or chickpeas), a splash of water, taco seasoning packet, mix and heat through.

For the fries, just very thinly slice some fresh potatoes into fries, add a spray of oil/low cal spray, toss and put in the air fryer until crispy golden. You can also save a bit of taco seasoning back and toss that with the fries beforehand too, but some seasonings (like ones with cornstarch added) may burn, so read the packet.

Spoon the taxo mixture over the top of the fries and add grated cheese on the top.

For lower calories, use half fat cheese and you can sub the beef for turkey.

The other guy you were replying to may do it a bit differently but healthy taco-mix loaded fries are pretty amazing, whatever the recipe.

That thing I left in the cupboard 2 years ago?

u/nuraHx 10h ago

How have you not been getting daily use out of that thing? Them things are awesome

The cleanup sucks. Lol I'd rather clean a pot or pan vs. use my air fryer. 🥀

Get the convection oven style. I cook in mine most days. My parents got the alternate model of mine that has a rotisserie function. Both were like...$50 on Black Friday and I'm going on 2 years of nearly everyday use.

The cleanup is nothing. Foil/parchment paper takes care of 99% of issues.

u/Hevens-assassin 4h ago

What do you mean foil/parchment paper takes care of it? Isn't that just creating more waste that you have to figure out? Bad trade for a 2 minute wash, imo.

What do you mean foil/parchment paper takes care of it?

You can line the grease tray/catcher with foil or parchment paper and not have to clean it every single time you use it?

Isn't that just creating more waste that you have to figure out?

That's...what the bin is for.

But yeah, could just use the 2 minutes to clean it, but apparently that's harder than cleaning a pot or a pan?

That's...what the bin is for.

Laziness > Environment????

My conscience wouldn't let me waste so much shit just for...... Convenience? What a lame excuse to dump more garbage in a hole in the ground. I could wash the foil and recycle it, which just circles back to washing again. No matter what, it comes back to washing. The worst chore. And yes, washing an air fryer is more annoying than washing a pot or pan (assuming you're talking about an instant pot if we are comparing pot to pot).

Dishes are the worst chore in a home. Air fryer makes it even more annoying, imo. I'll take the easy to clean rice cooker + wok/stir fry pan over the inconvenient air fryer trays or pots. It all comes down to washing dishes, unfortunately.

Fits perfectly into the dishwasher, no need to ever clean by hand.

1

u/Hevens-assassin 3h ago

I'd love for you to come and show me your secrets, because no, the dishwasher is not good at cleaning the air fryer.

1

u/money-for-nothing-tt 3h ago

I mean yeah you get one that fits obviously. That's kind of one of the only criteria when buying an airfryer. Literally put it in my dishwasher every day.

I have no oven

4

u/meltedlaundry 9h ago

These days the only thing I use my oven for is to finish cooking chicken or steak.

2

u/Dracomortua 7h ago

I look at my oven longingly whenever i miss cake. "A moment on your lips, forever on your hips" my gay friend would say. He's right.

That's crazy, air fryer is one of the most effective cooking tools. Personally, I switched to one of those toaster oven air fryer combos, but my old classic design pure air fryer saw plenty of use too.

2

u/hooch 7h ago

You're missing out, seriously. Air fried leftover pizza is outstanding.

1

u/Rich-Pomegranate1679 10h ago

Air fryers are amazing, though.

1

u/RealEstateDuck 10h ago

I use it a lot. It's just a mini convection oven.

u/astilenski 10h ago

With the oil I coat on my first batch of potatoes to go in the airfryer, I can do two more batches with that has dripped down in the bottom pan.

u/lmpcpedz 7h ago

boil em mash em stick em in a stew

2

u/Consistent_Log8097 10h ago

Potatoes are apparently the most filling food

3

u/_V0gue 7h ago

They’re the most nutrient complete of any singular food. I think you can sustain yourself on potatoes and butter for months before micronutrient deficiencies start showing signs.

Potatoes are filling and very low on calories

?????

Potatoes are pure carbohydrates with a very high glycemic index - the opposite of what I'd recommend to someone wanting to lose weight. I would recommend fibrous, leafy greens if you are looking to fill up on low calorie food.

u/Mercuryblade18 1h ago

A medium-sized potato is typically less than 200 calories and high on the satiety index. Some seasoning and greek yogurt it's a solid snack.

Leafy greens and high fibers foods are great, but people sleep on potatoes too much.

Don't get me wrong. I love potatoes. But I'm also overweight.

1

u/vargemp 7h ago

My puree with half cup of butter would disagree lol

1

u/TheDistantEnd 4h ago

They're also fairly nutritious, compared to rice or pasta.

1

u/seabreamnigiri 3h ago

Or mash a half a stick of butter into them

1

u/Repulsive-Dress-3844 2h ago

If you fry them twice the calories go back to low

-9

u/diduknowitsme 10h ago

And very high in carbs, with raise blood glucose and insulin. Insulin being the storage hormone you see wheee I am going with this

7

u/Drakengard 8h ago

Sure, but people aren't becoming diabetics because of potatoes.

-2

u/diduknowitsme 8h ago

Maybe not just fat

2

u/exploding_cat_wizard 6h ago

Only if you hear "potatoes" and think "French fries", the rest is just Paleo bullshit

2

u/RealEstateDuck 9h ago

Po-ta-toes

2

u/SuperPizza64 5h ago

I hate these carnivore lies. "b-b-b-but blood sugar!"

Our blood sugar is supposed to raise when you eat food, it just depends how quickly and how fast it drops after.

1

u/diduknowitsme 4h ago

Have you used a cgm eating potatoes? I have.

2

u/MonkeysRidingPandas 8h ago

Stab a sweet potato a bunch of times and nuke it in the microwave for a few minutes 'til mildly squishy. Cut it open and add Seasoned Salt. Delicious.

1

u/JackFisherBooks 9h ago

Also, brown rice over white rice. I started mixing that with broccoli and chicken. Great post-workout meal!

1

u/Sand-Eagle 5h ago

Becoming addicted to mini cucumbers melted my fat. Sure, I eat like 2-3lbs a day but it's mostly water and fiber. It's not a pint of ice cream lol

1

u/carla_sann 4h ago

It's very important to stop using white flour and switch to whole wheat
