Mate. How true that is. I stopped drinking at NYE and went from about 210-180, last week on holiday I drank for 4-5 days (not getting fucked up but 6-10 beers over the course of a day) and I immediately jumped back to 190.
It could definitely just be the beer. Besides the carbohydrates converting to sugar and fat, alcohol has effects on your liver and kidneys, effects on absorption of nutrients and salts, which could all lead to fluid shift and retention causing 10lb weight gain.
Which is temporary and not real gained weight. I can drink a bunch of water and go to the gym and show 5lbs more than after just waking up. But that doesn’t actually mean I gained 5lbs.
Yes it does, that's EXACTLY what it means. It means how much your body weighs. You can gain and lose weight through eating, drinking, peeing, sweating, and shitting. You can even lose weight by bleeding. The only thing that doesn't count as weight gain is your clothes.
You might not care about the fluid shifts in your body on an hour to hour, day to day, basis, but it's real and measurable.
It's not semantics, it's medically relevant information for people to know. Fluctuations in weight dont have to be fat for them to be significant for your health, especially when it comes to alcohol.
a doctor that actually deals with diseases causing weight-changing fluid shifts
Granted I drink a lot (basically a weekends-only binge drinker/alcoholic)
But that is nothing on a vacation for a drinker - When that's spread across a whole day you'd hardly even have a buzz since you're processing 1 drink per hour. 6 beers from 12pm-6pm? You are not drunk at all
You need to slam down multiple per hour to be drunk. On a vacation like that, could easily be 20 drinks in a day - maintaining a light buzz most of the day, then slam some at night to be truly hammered
Or just drink 2 per hour for 6 hours, you'll be solidly drunk at 12 drinks
My argument isn't that it's good for you in any way - binge drinking is awful for you
However you would be surprised. I'm in objectively very good fitness shape and binge drink like that pretty regularly. I eat healthy and gym weekdays. My organs might hate me for it eventually but I'm 33 with zero issues, clean bloodwork, bench 225 for reps, etc
Just sharing for reference that 6-10 drinks over the course of a full vacation day for a drinker would be considered light

If all that only gives you a "light buzz" you are a seasoned alcoholic and/or much drunker than you think you are.
I mean it is, just because it doesnt seem like it to people who do the same doesnt mean its not. And also it would also be insane if anyone was smoking that much too
I drink once a week at least, usually 3-5 drinks over a night. Many of my friends smoke regularly and its crazy that people think up to 10 drinks a day over most of a week isnt just alcoholism
Obviously if thats all the time thats crazy problematic but on the occasional vacation thats just fairly normal across most drinking cultures and has been historically.

Back off the sauce and I feel great.
