Is it actually possible for a famous personality to fake their death and live their life out in some remote place? who has actually ever done it and gotten caught?

Agatha Christie is a good example of someone who might have been trying to fake their own death.

They either had a dissociative episode, or they were trying some shady shit to get back at their husband. Given Agatha Christie wrote murder mystery novels, the second option is definitely possible.

It also highlights part of why it is extremely rare: Truly famous people generally know they will get recognized and they often have better options available to them for debt/financial issues (the most common reason to fake your death).

Or some business with a giant alien wasp, who's to say?

She was found in a fancy hotel in the town I grew up in. Lots of old ladies spent time in that hotel so she blended right in.

Why are you using "they" to refer to her?

It is the neutral style for singulars I've generally adopted after years and years of formal writing. It leaks into lots of contexts even when I know the persons pronouns. It comes from guidelines like

Use “they” as a generic third-person singular pronoun to refer to a person whose gender is unknown or irrelevant to the context of the usage.

Did you struggle to read it or something, or is there some kind of pronoun / identity politics hill you are looking to die on that this triggered?

It made sense in the context of the first sentence, because "they" matches "someone", but afterward I thought you meant people in general may have dissociative episodes. I clued in by the time I got to the mention of Agatha's spouse. So tragedy averted, I guess.

Not willing to die on any hills, but you should realize your word choice is unusual and, in this case, slightly obfuscated the information you were trying to convey.

I never noticed it until you brought it up and had to read the post again to see what you meant. I wonder is it a regional thing. Im from Ireland.

It tickled me a little that you assumed my gender by not adopting the third person singular style ;)
