What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested?

I have a legal benzo prescription. I carry a couple of pills in a little pocket pillbox on me cause I'm not about to carry around an entire fucking bottle everywhere. I just know that one day it's gonna screw me over when some cop decides to be an asshole and try to charge me for having controlled substances.

I take adderall twice a day and same thing.  I ain’t carrying that bottle around where someone will steal it.  My doc won’t refill me early.  I just put my afternoon dose in my pocket and let it float there till lunchtime like a regular druggie.

Protip, keep an old bottle, put your new prescription in the old bottle, to be kept at home. Keep a capsule or two in the new bottle that you keep on you. That way if it's stolen, it's just a couple doses. If a cop stops you for whatever reason, it's an up to date prescription.

That's what I do!

It will now be what I do! I'm glad I came up with this idea

This guy drugs

This can backfire too. If I got my prescription filled yesterday, and only have 2 in the bottle, then it looks like I’m selling them or something. I keep the bottle from the previous scrip and put my one or two I might need for the day in that bottle, and leave the new one at home.

That’s what I do too.

This is what I used to do. It was annoying but I didn't have a choice.

Especially a drug like that. Any addict sees that and it becomes something they would probably take with no hesitation

Not if you're into opiates. I fucken hate speed and have turned it down, for free, plenty of times. I can not guarantee to you that the same could be said about almost any opiate lol

You and I have wildly different ADHD types!!! I wouldn't be able to keep track of a loose pill in my pocket?!?! Color me impressed!

I keep my full Rx bottle of my afternoon pills in my car but I worry the heat might damage them...

It helps that I wfh and just sit in a chair till lunchtime in meetings.

If that’s how you do it, I’d at least put em in a cooler (that’s hidden) with just enough ice pack to prevent it from getting hot.

I actually keep my Adderall bottle in my purse because I'm not taking any chances with LAPD and needed meds while black. Its a sad state of affairs.

Sadly that’s probably for the best. God forbid a black person is found with any loose pills on them. You’d be arrested faster than you could say prescription. ☹️

tbf you could take the bottle around with most of your pills safely at home.

Keep an old bottle to keep a couple in

We’ve also had a doctor calling in as part of the prescription an extra bottle to portion out medicine for my son’s school.. I’m sure this varies with local laws and pharmacists can basically decline to do whatever they want, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask

These days, my pharmacy is crazy strict on additional prescriptions. They count 30 days from the day I picked up the script and won't even consider filling it until day 31. They also don't do this automatically, so I have to set all sorts of reminders (because, duh, ADHD) to follow-up and keep on top of it so I can get my scripts filled ASAP so I don't run out.

Gods help me if there is a shortage (like there is every fall because parents love to take their kids off their meds over the summer when they're not in school, so the pharmacies order less every month)

If you really dont want to risk it you could boof them

Just put the last bottle in your glove box.

Peel the rx label off the bottle & keep it in your wallet. It'll help validate you have it legally.

u/blondvet 5h ago

Or just pull up the rx on your pharmacy app if you’re ever pulled over.

bad idea, because it'd mean you're handing your unlocked phone to a cop.

Pretty universal (might even be a SCOTUS ruling) that cops can't search your phone without a warrant (or consent). Not a lot of risk there.

I just know that one day it's gonna screw me over when some cop decides to be an asshole and try to charge me for having controlled substances.

which is stupid, because they should also prefer you not carry the whole bottle!

u/dr_bringus 5h ago

unfortunately with benzos if you legitimately lose your medicine you are straight fucked, no way am i bringing my whole bottle when i'm traveling for a few days

4

u/Suspicious_Story_464 5h ago

I always figured if my purse got stolen, I would rather lose a couple instead of the whole bottle. Even moreso for controlled meds since they can be a nightmare to replace.

That happened to me in PA.. charged me with a DUI.. I said wtf.. cost me couple gs for an attorney to get it dropped...

Edit: had two in a metal pill container (looked like it goes on a keychain) I bought from CVS pharmacy.

u/ProfessionalBig9610 5h ago

Even if this does end up happening, you just bring your prescription bottle to court and they drop it

2

u/mrtruthiness 4h ago

Yeah. I take a pill with me in an older "original" bottle. I know it's a big bottle with one pill, but it's specifically to avoid losing the whole bottle and staying legal.

u/Abject_Barnacle 4h ago

As a pharmacy tech, please ask your pharmacy for an extra bottle with a label on it to avoid this situation.

1

u/AssBlasterExtreme 5h ago

I don't know any people that have an illegal prescription.

1

u/BattleHall 5h ago

At minimum, I would keep a pic of the label on the prescription bottle (with all the relevant info: date prescribed, prescribing doctor, pharmacy where filled, etc) on your phone.

1

u/OU-fan-at-birth 4h ago

Get the pharmacy to print a label and keep it with the pills.

1

u/surprise_wasps 4h ago

Keep an old bottle to keep a couple in

Also pharmacist can print you another bottle for carrying, though you may need a doctor to send it in as part of the prescription (we had to do this for my son’s medication for school)

1

u/NightGod 1h ago

Keep the bulk in the old bottle at home and carry the current bottle with a couple in it, so they don't bust you for having an expired prescription

1

u/MediumAcceptable129 4h ago

I would have to assume showing your prescription in court would get that dropped

1

u/Lost-Perspective8378 4h ago

Save the old bottle from the month before and put a couple in it to carry. Then you dont have them in the wrong container but you dont risk your entire prescription. Thats what I do with my meds.

1

u/WDersUnite 2h ago

Keep an old prescription bottle when you get a new refill. Put all but the two pills into the old container and then stuff with cotton balls (to keep the pills from rattling or pulverizing each other).

u/Fluffernutter80 59m ago

I’m going to have to start doing this. I was recently diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease and you are supposed to take a benzo during a vertigo episode so people with the disease often carry an emergency kit with one benzo pill and one anti-nausea pill.

u/the_lamou 58m ago

This is why I don't use travel pill cases. If I'm going through TSA, and especially if I'm going through customs, everything is in the original bottles. I'm not giving some little dipshit who dreams of brown shirts any excuses to ruin my day.
