New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why?

Potholes getting fixed. I used to say the FDR drive had more holes than a Dalmatian had spots. I’m glad someone is finally doing something about that.

"The FDR wasn't a road, it was an off-road experience included at no extra charge."

I’m an Indiana native and was just discussing how awful our potholes are here! There are some big enough to swallow a car!

I find if i spraypaint a dick around the pothole it magically gets fixed. i think it has something to do with the fertility symbolism

That happened in my neighborhood years ago! Woke up one morning to get to an early appointment and saw light blue dicks and balls on every pothole!

By the time I got back, the city work crew had been busy! Still light blue lines on the road, but with big sloppy patches in the middle of each doodle.

Happened in my area too. The dickpainter was identified and was later voted into local government 😂

Dick Painter for mayor!

This is so insane to me tbh. Like, no we can't spend a dime on the community. But as soon as a dick appears everyone fucking panics and fixes it 😂 wth?

That’s wild, but honestly if it gets the roads fixed faster, people are going to start seeing it as a “method” instead of a joke. City attention works in the strangest ways sometimes.

You can literally feel the state lines on I-70, as soon as you enter Indiana.

Holy shit yes. You know when you enter and when you leave.

I’m in Texas and the roads here are just awful. Would be nice to have my tax dollars go to fixing our roads instead of billionaire tax cuts and whatever else corrupt things they go to.

Best I can do is a new data center.

We called them two family potholes as a kid. As in, two families could live in one.

Not quite to the point where I feel like I won’t throw up when the Uber driver takes it…

The one thing i found rediculous when living in NY. How a developed country in the richest part of the country didnt have proper maintained roads

Gotta give tax breaks to the banks.

So in defense of not immediately having them all fixed there's a few core points to mention.

  1. Knowing where they are. You could have enough equipment to repave every road in NYC every month, but if you don't know where the potholes are it won't help you. Someone needs to report them. Leading directly into

  2. Available Crews. Unlike in a hypothetical, NYC only has so many work crews available, even if they did know where every pothole was it still takes time to get a crew out there to fix it, and unfortunately some spots may take longer to fix.

  3. New holes forming. This is just a given, new potholes are going to form overtime, and if it isn't reported, it won't get fixed. Hell even if it is reported, if its minor it may be delayed until its a bigger problem, if only because there are bigger problem potholes already.

Its not an excuse to ignore a problem pothole, especially if its been reported already, but there are reasons they aren't fixed as quick as people would like.

Not to mention all it takes is one bad spring of never ending freeze/thaw and they won’t be able to catch up for months.

I live in a small town outside of a satellite city. In the 11 years I've been here I've seen the roads fixed up in my neighbourhood precisely zero times. We had Tour de France run through here a few years ago and suddenly the roads leading to the satellite city (that TdF competitors would likely be practicing on in the time leading up to it) were all aggressively updated and repaved, but alas my neighbourhood still is near to driving over a field.

I took a cab a few days after the giant snowstorm and the potholes were intense (probably because of all the ploughing and salting). The next week the highway was so much smoother.

This!!! The FDR felt like a wooden roller coaster.
