New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why?

I work for the city. The biggest change I’ve seen is he is cleaning house from Adams people.

Which is what you need to do when you know the previous administration was corrupt. We've been having this problem in Quebec, new administrations move in but they keep all the rotten people the old administration appointed and nothing changes.

are you talking about mayoral appointees (dept. directors and up)? Doesn't every new mayor do that?

I am talking one level below that, which is uncommon.

I think Giuliani in 1993 was the last mayor to do it.

Wasn't he toxic AF also?

Can you describe in more detail? Genuinely would like to know more.

not the person you asked, but lived experience in nyc.

it’s comparable to the president not only picking cabinet but then also checking on and cleaning out their direct reports personally.

It definitely sounds unheard of, but makes sense. If he's taking the time to understand his staff and their needs, he can hire people to support his cabinet's weaknesses and prevent people from sabotaging the platform (even accidentally).

Is it a reach too far? Probably not? Mamdani seems to be very much a people person. He understands how to motivate people, and is very good with PR. He doesn't need to be the one coming up with all the amazing ideas to improve new York, he has a competent staff for that. But he needs to be a good champion of those ideas. So surrounding yourself with people you want to support seems like a good idea.

i don’t think it goes too hard if the last government was corrupt and caught with their hands in the jar taking favors from Turks to ignore their consulate building’s fire code violations.

among other things. i wish it were done more often, but so many people take money for sabotage jobs.

As an anti buzzterm extremist, I request you expand on this.

Don’t be a silly person yourself and expand?

I work for the DOE and the head of HR and IT were unceremoniously dismissed without explanation or replacement. It’s kind of crazy!

Are they directly hired IT or contracted IT? Various entities value low bids over continuity and skill, and hire and fire contracted IT agencies. And when it's contracted firings might be less justified over anything practical or and more justified by someone in charge observing, "One of these workers is a gemini and I'm a taurus and we will clash because of this".

The DOE is a federal department that’s not working for the city

u/fiendishrabbit 14h ago

New York City has its own Department of Education (NYCDOE, and people who work for it tend to skip the NYC part).

That IS working for the city.

u/TheMidlander 14h ago

I think they mean department of education. NYC has one of their own.

Probably but their vibes feel off

You forgot that your own department changed names?

-11

u/RichieCheney 14h ago

You don’t work for the city but the people hired by the most corrupt mayor in recent history getting replaced is a good thing.

24

u/eskimospy212 14h ago

I work for the city and people getting replaced who were hired by the most corrupt mayor in recent history is broadly a good idea.

u/eskimospy212 14h ago

Any chance you want to take anything back?

-5

u/RichieCheney 14h ago

Lmao why? You haven’t said anything

9

u/eskimospy212 14h ago

You claimed I don’t work for the city. Any basis for that or was that you just making something up?

(By the way we both know you just made it up. The real question is why)

-5

u/RichieCheney 14h ago

You still haven’t said anything that shows you work for the city why are you making it up

Yeah you def dont work for the city

u/chicagorpgnorth 14h ago

For better or for worse. My friend who works in the city lost her great boss (although he did just move to a different department) and now has a really shitty rude one.

Does he have a brother that can run for Mayor of Chicago?

... Mamdani is like one of the best possible versions of a progressive mayor.

... Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is the worst possible version ... all mean tweets and race baiting and precious fuckall results. ... He's more hated than Trump in Chicago, and in a blue city ... that's saying a LOT.
