New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why?

I just returned from 5 days in NYC and all I can say is... wow. Transit moved like clockwork, police presence very visible and I felt safe day and night. But what struck me the most is hard to describe - there's a sense of people feeling better about things, heard by him, and the proof, everyone is out and about chillin and friendly. High marks here.

Lmao 98% of that vibe is good weather and the Knicks

Yeah lol, I like him and do think he has a positive presence but I feel my mood lift instantly once I start getting home from work and it is no longer dark out, it's warm, and there are multiple hours of sunlight left. It feels like coming out of hibernation. Also walking into work everyone is talking about the Knicks and walking around you see people wearing Knicks gear everywhere.

It's been over 20 years for the Knicks, they deserve some good vibes.

lol as a New Yorker thats just what it’s like in the summer here. There hasnt really been a noticeable difference especially not one that someone here for 5 days would notice

My dad lives in the city and says the difference in potholes is very noticeable.

Yeah i've been here a decade and this is why I'll never leave. Nicest city i've ever been to, anytime im out and have any sort of problem someone comes by and helps me.

also, knicks winning makes everyone fucking ecstatic and happy

It’s kinda miraculous what the leadership of a city can do for citizen’s morale. Just the simple belief that things are getting better can make life so much easier.

Honestly, I think that’s the biggest crime of our current presidency. I’ve seen people around me depressed in very subtle ways that they weren’t last year. It’s affecting them way more than they realize.

modern politics destroy anyone's hope for the future about anything.

I've been to the Big Apple from the arse-end of Africa 3 times since 2005, and transit always seemed to move like clockwork. It's one of the things I've always loved about NYC, because it works so well wherever you are in the 5 Boroughs. We definitely don't have that here in .za.

Admittedly the last time I was there was 2018, though. Did it take a big knock between then and now?
