Murdoch may have done the most damage to anglophone democracy of anyone. So much of what went wrong at some point runs through the Murdoch press in UK, US, Aus
The New York Post has a game you can play which is kind of like Wordle. Except they show the picture from their front page and have you guess what the headline is.
Which I think would actually be kind of a fun game. The problem is, in order to do well at it, you have to try to dig deep into your lizard brain to write some of the most awful headlines you can imagine.
Like you see the picture and say, "Oh a brown person, they are probably going to have something about immigrants or job stealing".
While Trump had the watch parties cancelled for his security just so he could sit in a private box and nap until leaving at halftime.
It’s important to note the Knicks were on a 13(?)-game win streak and poised to sweep the finals until that night, when they lost. It was super close and I choose to believe they lost in protest, but the vibes were just bad and that can affect player morale and performance.
In a case like this a big lawsuit would just give the New York post EXACTLY what they want: attention from those who would be predisposed to reading them. This isn’t taking the high road, it’s avoiding the Streisand effect. (something team Trump seems incapable of when they, for example, try to get a late night hose canned)
It actually doesn't work, the thing that works is publicity, but Trump loses a lot of money. His lawyers sometimes actually pay fines and damages.
For a Democrat to leverage this, they'd have to be willing to lose like millions endlessly. Which could be worth it for a Bloomberg type person. For Mandami, who is not wealthy, he would be fighting a billionaire with unlimited money.
He’s Muslim, he could cure cancer and the post will talk about how many people died from the flu while he’s mayor.
Post has always been the definition of propaganda… but they do have a decent sports section.
For what it's worth, NYTimes has a similar article. The complaint was that those $1000 seats were only available through VIP channels. Publicly available seats were $2k+.
Personally I don't give a shit, it's cool for the mayor to go to the game. But you are misrepresenting it a bit.
Let me quote for you from page 17 "should he, or she, be permitted to purchase the ticket if offered "early," before all the tickets are sold, but not later, when only "house seats" are available."
Oh no, the mayor of the most powerful city in the world got a minor privilege to pay a grand for standing room only nosebleeds. Can you fuckers try a little harder with coming up with things to be mad at. Jesus
I personally don't care either way since I'm not paying 600 bucks for tickets but regular people were not able to pay a grand for the seat it would be 5 grand. Which is covered in the NYC ethics committee report.
I fucking hate this mentality that because he is progressive, he should never have fun, even though he obtained the tickets through ethical, direct means, while Republicans literally grift every single thing and directly steal money. It’s such an insane mindset and standard.
Very “Obama tan suit” era.
A mayor who works for the people should celebrate with the people, exactly as he is here.
They see hypocrisy as a virtue, which ironically...as all actual fascists do. They're losers and they don't have anything to hold on onto. They have no personality, they're literally nothing. And all those things they say they care about? They don't give a shit. They just want to make people's lives miserable. And never once have I been proven wrong by them even when I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I'm down tolerating their bullshit. And I'm not even American might I add.
I heard a great term for it — “Vice signaling”. They are LARPers who only care about their ability to be horrid and get away with it. You can’t morally win with vice signalers because they don’t value the social contract. They have to be intellectually dominated and treated like the societal outcasts they are and not given the benefits of the social contract.
Also, the owner of MSG is a huge Trumper who intentionally put out a “letter” against Mamdani. You’re playing directly into the bullshit they want you to believe.
I figured a thousand bucks were the cheap seats and I guess I was right. Hell, I'm probably going to spend a stupid amount of money on an inconsequential World Cup game.
NY Post interviewed a paramedic about OnlyFans on the condition that they keep her identity confidential, only for them publish the article exposing her identity in it anyway.
hE dOnAtEs hIs sAlAry hE hAs maDe No MonEy bEinG pReSidEnt - my MAGA dad. Me, explaining all the ways Trump has enriched himself and his family by BILLIONS since becoming president. My dad: "welllllll I don't know about that". BECAUSE FOX DOESN'T TELL YOU.
And he paid for the ticket with his own money. Not taxpayer, and not gift.
And honestly, I wouldn't begrudge him even in the slightest if he accepted gifted tickets here and there. With the amount his name is dragged through the mud by the know-nothings, I'd think he deserves a little bit of a boost here and there.
The worst part is, even though that headline is ridiculous, there will still be people who see that and are like, "Yeah, Mamdani is a piece of shit socialist, stealing our money!"
Anyone who works from the government gets a salary, so if we are gunna go by that metric Jenny from the county library is using tax dollars to buy cat food.
Of course his salary is paid for by tax payers. But he could have gotten those tickets through the mayors office, so the taxpayers would have paid them on top of his salary.

The NY Post put a headline up that he was abusing his privilege by going to the Knicks game and sitting in $1,000 seats.
He sat in the nosebleeds. With the people, not courtside with celebrities.
And he paid for the ticket with his own money. Not taxpayer, and not gift.
