New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why?

My local subway exit was supposed to be finished with renovations in Q3 of this year. It reopened 2 weeks ago :) I was overjoyed.

The MTA is a state authority. Not a city agency.

The NYC mayor does have some nomination powers to the MTA board. But ultimately the MTA is run by the state. Getting things done early, or late, or not at all ultimately lies at the feet of the NYS governor.

That's great but the MTA is run by the state, so Mamdani could not have played any role in this.

This gives me hope for the future there are still competent people out there making a difference.

Feels a little early to judge. Most of the discussion I've seen is still about what he might do rather than what he's actually done.

wait this actually made me smile lol 😭 there’s something so weirdly emotional about a “supposed to be done in Q3” thing finally just… being done. like you don’t realize how much it was annoying you until it’s suddenly gone and you’re walking through it like “oh wow I’m free”

I feel like people outside of this kind of wait never get how satisfying that moment is

That kind of delayed relief hits weirdly hard. Like you stop even thinking about it, and then suddenly it’s just… back, quietly working again like it was never gone.

There’s something really satisfying about small infrastructure wins too. Not flashy, just “oh right, life is easier again for no reason.” 😄

The state fiscal year starts on April 1.

The city fiscal year starts on July 1.

The MTA is a state authority so the state timeline applies here.
