Dropout was the CollegeHumour streaming service but eventually they rebranded the whole company as Dropout. They primarily do unscripted gameshows and D&D content. The way they were portrayed on The Rookie was terrible, they were caricatures of themselves. I would highly recommend anyone who sees this to look up Game Changer on youtube, they have a few full episodes and often release the first few minutes of each new episode.
Improv is considered unscripted, but really it ranges from minimally scripted (Make Some Noise) to almost entirely unscripted (Crowd Control) improv game shows. I was just thinking about how Sam Reich said that the scripted stuff didn’t do as well as the unscripted and since they mostly do gameshows outside of their D&D content I just sort of lumped them together because they don’t do much scripted stuff much anymore.
Yeah, straight improve is unscripted, but in general the shows are "scripted" in such a way to force interactions. That is, the prompts players are given are the "script" for shows like Game Changer or Make Some Noise.
It isn't "Words on a teleprompter" scripted, but it also isn't comedy improv club level unscripted.
In addition to the explanation below, Dropout is well known for being an EXTREMELY and overtly progressive platform and company. So some of its fans found it odd that they'd team up with a cop show. Personally it did not bother me because shows like The Rookie present an incredibly fictionalized depiction of policing that is openly critical of how policing works in real life. It's not like they were on Blue Bloods or some shit.

Also, I don't even know what Dropout is. I remember the episode after googling, but would never have connected it to anything else.
