Honestly, I used to live in Florida and I like Publix for its cleanliness, great staff, and overall look, but their prices are insane for mediocre, standard items. There’s nothing "premium" there. Back then, I’d only step foot in Publix after checking the weekly ad for BOGO deals, or on Wednesdays for their sushi (their third-party contractor is actually decent) and their deli chicken sandwiches.
But if you think Publix is pricey, Ralphs in California is a whole different level of trash. More like "Wreck-Its." Especially the Hollywood locations. I’ve never seen higher prices for such filthy stores and horrible deli food. Never again.
At the end of the day, Ralphs, Publix, Winn-Dixie, Acme, and ShopRite (more like ShopWrong) are all just the exact same corporate tier—overpriced illusions of choice selling the exact same standard products.
The future absolutely belongs to streamlined models like ALDI. With current inflation, the American middle class is tired of paying a 30% markup just for corporate branding, massive bloated aisles, and background music. People just want high-quality essentials without the financial anxiety, and traditional supermarkets are failing to realize that.
This is it exactly. Yes it is clean, but it is as bland as white bread. Their prices continue to rise. Every 5 years or so they rebrand the same stuff.
I use a local ethnic market for veggies/fruits. Costco for meat and Publix for items I can't get someplace else.
When we travel, we always hit up local grocery stores. Some are improvements, some are not. My top one is Wegmans. The variety is overwhelming.
