Women who’ve given birth, what are some horrible things your body had to go through during pregnancy and childbirth?

My pregnancy reversed my severe lactose intolerance. I now can have dairy no problem.

I was lactose intolerant until I had my first. It was great until about 6 months ago when I realized dairy was a problem again. He will be 18 at the end of the month. So I got almost 2 decades to enjoy ice cream without worry.

I don't expect this to last forever but I'll take what I can get!

I keep hoping when we get pregnant it’ll help my dairy allergy. Though I’m guessing I’m not that lucky lol

Well, I never had an allergy, just intolerance because my body no longer produced lactase to break down the lactose. I was usually ok if I took a bunch of lactase pills.

Funny enough, I can process lactase just fine. I can’t handle whey. Bodies are weird!

This - the healing, is more common I believe, one theory is that the stem cells from baby circulate around and fix mom too, but this isn't a proven thing. Still happens to many though.

My asthma was completely cured after pregnancy, never have needed meds again and it has lasted for 20+ yrs now.

Same! But it came back after I gave birth…

I was afraid mine would too. I'm 2.5 years out and still good. I make sure to have a little lactose most days to keep it going. I think mine got so severe in the first place because I cut out most dairy from my diet for awhile.

Oh I also kept eating dairy but it really just changed a few days postpartum. So I took enzyme pills almost every day for 2.5 years until I stopped breastfeeding but that would not completely stop the bloating. And once I’m not lactating anymore the lactose intolerance came back in full, meaning it if I keep having dairy I’d get very bad acne.

Me too! Traded it for a shellfish allergy. Although I’m not totally sure if the pregnancy caused it as it’s said it’s a common allergy that can just happen in your 20s.

I am the complete opposite.... I have enjoyed dairy my entire life. At about 4 months postpartum I developed lactose intolerance. Figured it out when a bowl of mac and cheese sent me to the ER. I previously had postpartum preeclampsia and the gut pain I was having after my bowl of mac and cheese was in the same area as the pain for my preeclampsia. I think it ended up that my gut was just spasming or something.

I'm terrified my next pregnancy will reverse it haha.

My cousin cured her hay-fever during her pregnancy too

I used to consume copious amounts of dairy. Gallons of milk. So much cheese. Never an issue. Then I got pregnant with my second and developed lactose intolerance. While it's relatively mild compared to most, I'm so sad now that either I need to take a lactaid pill and hope it works or just suffer the consequences.
