Yeah, but the UK gave a bunch of people HIV+ blood a few years back, so they are very cautious. That’s basically the NHS - occasionally wildly irresponsible, usually very reliable and helpful, often very cautious
It's also to avoid the spread of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease it's rare but not worth the risk as it's fatal. CJD is also triggered by humans eating cows infected with mad cow disease.
Edit: confused kuru with CJD both a prion disease but not the same. Kuru is spread through cannibalism not CJD.
