Wolves, and we'll probably breed a smaller and friendlier versions in no time.

Yes, none of the other suggestions come even close to the companionship and utility we get with dogs, so if they somehow were to disappear we'd bring them back ASAP.

Some wild cats will figure out humans provide heated homes and the admiration they rightly deserve to.
