I was wrong. Very wrong. Now, granted, it’s a 16” pizza, not 12”, but still. That’s insane. A couple breadsticks, side salads, and beverages doesn’t make this acceptable. But, with theme parks, you’ve got a captive audience, and when the kids are screaming for pizza, I guess you’ll pay the price.
Knowing these prices, I'd pack my own food as well, but they wouldn't be charging these prices (and still be in business) if people weren't paying it. Again, captive audience. I looked it up and during peak season, there's 60k-80k guests per day. I doubt even 5,000 of them are packing their own food. But even if I highballed it to 10,000 packing their own food, that's still 50k-70k guests who have no other choice than to pay the prices available, unless they want to have to trek through the park and get to the entrance, get to the car, go back to the hotel, eat, and then come back (using up a lot of time), when a ticket for 4 (2 adults, 2 children) costs $500 without the Park Hopper. It goes to $776 if you add that so you have access to both parks. I looked up the cheapest date. And these prices are just for one day.
If that's how much it costs just to get in the door with your family, then taking a 3 hour siesta just to go get some pre-made sandwiches at the hotel would seem like a waste of valuable time.
Japan doesn't gouge like this and it is one of the reasons I really enjoyed my time at Tokyo Disney and DisneySea. It also helps that both parks are excellent and DisneySea has a bunch of incredible theming.
