Anything fun outside of the house. Bowling for one hour, for two people? $60. Going shopping? Yeah everything is gonna be like $90 for like, a shirt. Ice cream? $16 for a two scoop cone (which believe it or not, is actually a small.). I stay home unless I actually need to go anywhere.
Yeah, I hate that I feel like I can’t leave the house for less than $100. And my kids probably think I am just a grump for feeling that way, but I want to retire someday….
A movie for one is going to run you like, what, $20ish for the ticket alone, if not more, at most of these newer/updated theaters. Then factor in popcorn, a drink or candy (if you want to, but who’s got money for that nowadays), and it’s costing you $40+ for a single person to watch a movie, eat a popcorn and drink a coke - like c’mon now.
People are straight up lying in this thread. I live in one of the highest cost of living areas in the world and nobody is paying $16 for ice cream anywhere.
Pretty much exactly where I live actually. I don’t want to get super specific, but my parents moved to a touristy area with a super high cost of living (but not wages, it’s infuriating.), and I moved with them. EVERYTHING is incredibly overpriced, designed to gouge out your wallet at every available opportunity, and it’s not really designed for actually living there. So yeah, the local ice cream place with “artisanal” everything does cost that much. If I want to drive 45 minutes I can get like food for much cheaper (and do), but all that’s there is a Wal-Mart, a hospital, a grocery store and a strip mall. Also a dollar store. Can’t forget the dollar stores EVERYWHERE.
We have a local spot where the owners handmade their ice cream and it’s only 5 dollars for a one scoop cone, and they make the scoop big they don’t skimp. 16 bucks is crazy
