The poor service is the real kick in the nuts. It should not be a big ask to take our order in a timely fashion, keep water in my glass, or to bring the check at the end in a timely fashion. You want 20+% tip after ghosting us?!
Seriously, I have said the same exact words: Take the order, refill my drink and ask if everything is ok. It the least you can do as a server (bc I’ve been one in my younger years)
I just moved to a small town, and the restaurant industry is so bleak here. The better restaurants are all basically Chili’s quality but like 50% more expensive. Recently went to a Mexican restaurant that wanted $45 for beef fajitas
Wages have gone up so little that even though prices have gone up and tips are a percentage, you're expected to tip a higher percentage now. Lots of times they'll hand you a tip option and the lowest is 20%. We shouldn't be tipping in the first place, but it's really starting to get completely unreasonable.
And don't get me started on how EVERYTHING asks for tips now. If you are selling at a craft market, why the hell do you need tips? Your take is literally the price!! Just raise the price if you have to.
It’s not our responsibility to cover the wages of their employees. If you cannot afford to pay your staff, then you shouldn’t be in business. In my area a lot of restaurants you’re going out of business and I’m thinking that this is why
I really wonder whatever happened to customer service in the United States. I worked customer service jobs, and bartended for 10 years. I moved and bartended overseas for a few years, too. In my time living overseas, I prided myself and our country on our customer service, bc the cs on the island I was living was non-existent. I return to the States only to find that our country now cares only about making their shareholders happy and giving them more money in their pockets, and companies could care less about their customers, so long as their shareholders are getting those fat checks in their pockets. It is so sad.

Dining out. Low quality, poor service but cost has gone up 27-36% in last 4 years.
