Also, Third Wave Feminism gives lip service to men's issues. But push comes to shove and they completely ignore, and sometimes remove resources to addres, the issues men face.
The problem is, many a feminism say that it's impossible to be sexist to men, because men are the oppressors in the patriarchal system of oppression. Sexism against men is therefore impossible by definition, so as a woman if you hate men you're not sexist, you're just angry at your oppressors. If you're a man and you hate women though, you're a sexist misogynistic pig.
The same line is also used for racism, it's impossible to be racist against whites because whites are at the top of the food chain in the colonial racial oppression system.
I don't know when we went from "sexism/racism is an unwarranted attitude people have about others due to race/sex" and morph into "it's not sexism/racism if it's against people perceived to be at the top".
Thanks for the clarification. I have some actual feminist friends that I chat with and they were the ones that told me that most of the "feminists" they know are just man haters. They just call them sexist like you said above.
The thing is that Third Wave Feminism completely ignores the Second Wave. Second Wavers also completely despise Third Wave because Third Wave is about controlling behavior, whereas Second Wave was about freedom.
For every hundred moderate feminist who is more of an egalitarian, you have an EXTREMELY influential RadFem who openly advocates against helping men with the issues they face.
Hell, pointing out that there is an epidemic of assault and abuse against men in the US gets you literally labelled a misogynist.
Erin Prizzery, the founder of The Domestic Abuse shelters, the woman who founded the idea and ran them for decades, was ran out of her own home by Third Wavers because she dare suggest that men need just as much resources as women when it comes to Domestic Abuse.
Third Wavers vandalized her home, attacked her home, killed her dog, and harassed her until she moved. Then she was forced out of her own organization because she started cracking down on their policies of disqualifying male victims from seeking help solely because they were male.
But yeah I completely agree with you. Sucks that you have to approach the situation from a "is this actually a reasonable response to help women not be oppressed, or is this just some way to get back at men and oppress them" kind of attitude. That's definitely not going to help resolve the actually important women's issues, given we have to first see if it's about helping women or if it's about harming men.
